  1. Someone over at zcar.com was mentioning that they were using RX7 plugs in their Z and getting more power... I am pretty sure that the RX7 plugs are commonly available in ranges up to 9es11 from NGK... ------------------ "THE STREETS WILL FLOW WITH THE OIL OF THE NON-BELIEVERS" Drax240z 1972 240z - L28TURBO transplant on the way! http://members.xoom.com/r_lewis/datsun.html
  2. Well Mike, first off sorry to hear about your problems, and I hope it takes a lot less than 6 months to sort out. I think you'll be happier in the end with EFI though. Just a question for anyone, why can't you use a cell with EFI? ------------------ "THE STREETS WILL FLOW WITH THE OIL OF THE NON-BELIEVERS" Drax240z 1972 240z - L28TURBO transplant on the way! http://members.xoom.com/r_lewis/datsun.html

Can't help you with the tranny, sorry. but I am very interested in hearing about your engine setback! Do you have pictures at all? If you've driven the car since it has been done, how much of an improvement did you notice in handling? Have you weighed all 4 corners before/after the movement? Interesting idea to say the least... ------------------ "THE STREETS WILL FLOW WITH THE OIL OF THE NON-BELIEVERS" Drax240z 1972 240z - L28TURBO transplant on the way! http://members.xoom.com/r_lewis/datsun.html
  4. OOh, I want to hear if anyone manages to test fit a set of these. I need new mirrors badly (I've sold mine!) and the motorsports price has really scared me. $159 is a bit much... Going to try to find some 84 mirrors, will be tough around here though. ------------------ "THE STREETS WILL FLOW WITH THE OIL OF THE NON-BELIEVERS" Drax240z 1972 240z - L28TURBO transplant on the way! http://members.xoom.com/r_lewis/datsun.html
  5. Sweeeeeeet! And thanks, made up my mind for me. ------------------ "THE STREETS WILL FLOW WITH THE OIL OF THE NON-BELIEVERS" Drax240z 1972 240z - L28TURBO transplant on the way! http://members.xoom.com/r_lewis/datsun.html
  6. I noticed with mine that I had a bit of a squeak/rattle coming out of the hatch. (from it bouncing up and down) At anywhere over the 80mph mark it totally stopped as I assume the hatch had enough downforce on it to keep it down... Tough decision, but I'll probably go with the BRE style just because I think it looks better. Or better yet, maybe I'll try comparing the 2 on the same car before I paint. ------------------ "THE STREETS WILL FLOW WITH THE OIL OF THE NON-BELIEVERS" Drax240z 1972 240z - L28TURBO transplant on the way! http://members.xoom.com/r_lewis/datsun.html
  7. Hey Ross, did you manage to get the KVR's from anyone in vancouver? just wondering if there is a way to get them without having to do the exchange/duty/shipping thing. I'm going to need some new pads soon. ------------------ "THE STREETS WILL FLOW WITH THE OIL OF THE NON-BELIEVERS" Drax240z 1972 240z - L28TURBO transplant on the way! http://members.xoom.com/r_lewis/datsun.html
  8. Holy crap, can you say chassis stiffness? No doubt you need it with that much torque. I wonder about having 14" x 6" wheels on something like that... have you ever managed to move the car without wheelspin? Hehe. Looks like you have lots of work ahead of you this winter... Good luck. ------------------ "THE STREETS WILL FLOW WITH THE OIL OF THE NON-BELIEVERS" Drax240z 1972 240z - L28TURBO transplant on the way! http://members.xoom.com/r_lewis/datsun.html
  9. Well the title presents my dilemma rather well. The car currently has a whale tail on it. I like what the tail does at speed, but I also really like the idea of a bit of a sleeper. I have a BRE style rear spoiler, but I really don't think it does much over 75mph, certainly not like the whale tail. I shouldn't be driving faster than that, but I do sometimes. Any thoughts or comments about the aerodynamic differences, specifically from those of you running whales tails? ------------------ "THE STREETS WILL FLOW WITH THE OIL OF THE NON-BELIEVERS" Drax240z 1972 240z - L28TURBO transplant on the way! http://members.xoom.com/r_lewis/datsun.html
  10. Ross, talk a little more to DrewZ about his dual TBI setup, he's got all the goodies there on his car... Sounded like a pretty slick setup to me when he was explaining things to me. (custom burnt chips, etc) ------------------ "THE STREETS WILL FLOW WITH THE OIL OF THE NON-BELIEVERS" Drax240z 1972 240z - L28TURBO transplant on the way! http://members.xoom.com/r_lewis/datsun.html
  11. I'd be wary of the pink stuff holding onto moisture too... maybe you could use polystyrene (styrofoam) insulation if you wanted to be sure it wouldn't hold on to water. After doing the 1200mile trip in the new Z, I -=+definately+=- will be doing some sound deadening FAST. BLKMGK, what did the dynamat kit cost you? ------------------ "THE STREETS WILL FLOW WITH THE OIL OF THE NON-BELIEVERS" Drax240z 1972 240z - L28TURBO transplant on the way! http://members.xoom.com/r_lewis/datsun.html
  12. Ok guys, can anyone tell me if there is any way that it would be possible to move the heater contol panel OUT (away from firewall) by about an inch or so? The reason I am asking is that I have a custom center console in mind that would move the heater control, radio etc outwards slightly. (and put them angled slightly towards the driver, as well as angled "out" at the base) I might have to go with a vacuum system too... Hmmm.. I wonder what would happen under boost? ------------------ "THE STREETS WILL FLOW WITH THE OIL OF THE NON-BELIEVERS" Drax240z 1973 240z - L28TURBO transplant on the way! http://members.xoom.com/r_lewis/datsun.html
  13. I know where I'd be putting my money. On Nissan. Don't get me wrong, I really like Wankels, and your points about handling and braking are noted. But for durability I'd go 2.8... 270hp can be made with the stock turbo and block I am positive. I'd bet you could get up to 300 without swapping to a larger turbo. ------------------ "THE STREETS WILL FLOW WITH THE OIL OF THE NON-BELIEVERS" Drax240z 1973 240z - L28TURBO transplant on the way! http://members.xoom.com/r_lewis/datsun.html
  14. Maybe I am missing something, but SDS oes offer programmable fuel injections system new for around $1200US. Crank triggered distributorless ignition, as well as full fuel control. Its worth a look anyway. www.sds-efi.com ------------------ Drax240z 1973 240z - L28TURBO transplant on the way! http://members.xoom.com/r_lewis/datsun.html [This message has been edited by Drax240z (edited September 14, 2000).]
  15. Ohmygod that is sooooo COOL! I'm drooling here. ------------------ Drax240z 1973 240z - L28TURBO transplant on the way! http://members.xoom.com/r_lewis/datsun.html
  16. I just threw it up because it was something I hadn't seen before and I was hoping for a few reactions. Don't shoot the messenger. I'd be a little bit leary of removing the whole parking brake, unless maybe I lived in saskachewan or something. (no hills) Seems to me that a parking brake is infact useful. ------------------ Drax240z 1973 240z - L28TURBO transplant on the way! http://members.xoom.com/r_lewis/datsun.html [This message has been edited by Drax240z (edited September 11, 2000).]
  17. Actually no, I never really did much tweaking to the brakes once I had the calipers on. Now once I install the zxt booster and master cylinder I will. I did go with pretty cheap pads though. (I got each caliper with pads new for $72) The brakes in my z car are among the best out of any car I've driven... how sad is that? I guess it has to do with the light weight of the Z compared to most others... but IMHO you can't have too much brakes. ------------------ Drax240z 1973 240z - L28TURBO transplant on the way! http://members.xoom.com/r_lewis/datsun.html
  18. I have faith in the parts, since if you send me this stuff ok I'll be buying a lot of exhaust stuff from you probably. 19. For those of you that have the need to fabricate, I came across this today, a system that uses 82-83zx rear rotors, and 87-90 Sentra FRONT calipers. Should be some bigtime clamping there! It was from the zhome.com article at http://www.zhome.com/ZCMnL/tech/Calipers/RearDisk.htm Hope this helps you out, I wonder how much the increase in rear clamping force would help. ------------------ Drax240z 1973 240z - L28TURBO transplant on the way! http://members.xoom.com/r_lewis/datsun.html [This message has been edited by Drax240z (edited September 11, 2000).]
  20. John I've only done the 83 4x4 swap onto my Z, and it was worth the bucks. But then again, it wasn't very many bucks. The new calipers/pads as a set cost me $166CAN or about $110US. While it helped some, its not what I'd call extreme braking power. In a Z as fast as yours I'd without a doubt go bigger than this. Mikelly seems to be fairly happy with his setup, and I don't see that breaking the bank. (certainly not like wilwoods or brembos would) ------------------ Drax240z 1973 240z - L28TURBO transplant on the way! http://members.xoom.com/r_lewis/datsun.html
  21. Thats ok, I still think I can straighten it myself without too much trouble. Try cutting an inch or so off of your shifter and let me know how it feels! Hehe. You can be my guinea pig now, since my tranny isn't even in my car. ------------------ Drax240z 1973 240z - L28TURBO transplant on the way! http://members.xoom.com/r_lewis/datsun.html
  22. Hey thanks for all the info on your car. Its really a beauty. (and adorning my desktop now) Just wondering if you have a webpage of your own with your car and specs and so on on it. Welcome to hybridz.org either way! ------------------ Drax240z 1973 240z - L28TURBO transplant on the way! http://members.xoom.com/r_lewis/datsun.html
  23. Woo hoo. Any luck coming across a 73 T-C rod thats straight? I did the shifter tonight, 1" off. Put it in the tranny (which isn't in the car) but it feels good. And the throw is definately shorter, I can't tell how much without it actually in the car though. If nothing else I've made some room in front of the CD player in my car. ------------------ Drax240z 1973 240z - L28TURBO transplant on the way! http://members.xoom.com/r_lewis/datsun.html
  24. So Scottie, what is your future turbo going to be? And what are your 1/4 mile goals for it? Hmm, I wonder what that turbo would do on a L28... ------------------ Drax240z 1973 240z - L28TURBO transplant on the way! http://members.xoom.com/r_lewis/datsun.html
  25. I'm not too familiar with the other types other than Garrett myself. But I'd probably suggest something around a T04, or a T3/T04 hybrid. Try checking out this site for their turbo calculator: http://www.turbofast.com.au/javacalc.html I hope that helps you out. ------------------ Drax240z 1973 240z - L28TURBO transplant on the way! http://members.xoom.com/r_lewis/datsun.html [This message has been edited by Drax240z (edited September 08, 2000).]
