You have to remember the bike has full horsepower, probably 4 - 38mm carbs while the car is breathing through a 20mm (just larger than 3/4") diameter inlet restrictor.

Why search for rotary info in the Chevy V8 forum of all places?
-
First off, its really easy to have all your L6 posts in one place. Do a search for L6. You'll get XXX number of threads listed, and you won't have to wade through anything but L6 posts. Same goes for RB. Secondly, I cannot stand when people start a post with "this will probably get me banned, but.." To me that is a cry to become a martyr and be banned. State your mind. Do it intelligently. Don't hack other people in the process and there likely won't be a problem. Stating it up front is just telling everyone that you are intentionally trying to piss people off IMHO. Multiple posts on the same topic: We are limited in server space Jim. One aspect to the problem is answering the same question over and over again uses up this space, slows down the search engine, provides spam for every member to read through, and generally it has been answered in depth allready. If no one answers the person will bump their post over and over again until someone does. I don't understand how people cannot justify a 2 minute search, but can justify posting on the same thread over and over again wasting their time. It amazes me the process some people will go through to avoid doing work for themselves. is not a good one. Read the post if you don’t believe me. Well I've read it again Jim, and I absolutely will stick to my guns here. People are wondering if they aren't welcome, because they are misinformed. (our fault, but there is a reason) Once it was explained that they aren't being kicked off, there was no problem. I still don't see anyone of quality packing up and leaving because of this. Yes a few people might take this personally and be pissed off enough to stop posting for a while. However, in the end they are after the same thing everyone else on the board is, good technical discussion on Z related mods. As people have stated allready there isn't anywhere else to go to do this at this level. There doesn't NEED to be any place else either, because everyone is still welcome here! And I've not wanted to go this route, but: This is the way it is, and will be for a while. This is not a democracy, but at the same time we want to make this a place where people are happy. The moderators were having to put up with a lot of garbage in the past month, including threatening PM's, emails, and general harassment, not to mention all the other daily crap like flame wars, close-mindedness to the extreme, and people asking us to kick someone else off the board for what they wrote. Its a big job, and a thankless one for the most part. The moderators and admins were NOT happy with the way things were going, and because we are the ones that have to deal with it, we changed it. Now if someone wants to pay me to be a moderator, then I won't push towards running this site the way it is easiest for me. (and liekly the same goes for other mods and admins) But as it is, we volunteer our time and don't like to take 2 hours out of our day to moderate here. I think we'd all prefer to read and reply to posts, and have the moderation and administration duties take 2 minutes a day, like it has for the previous 3+ years up until recently.

Ah, you linked the thumbnails and not the full size images.

Some older posts were lost a year ago in the software change to the best of my knowedge. So yes the search is good, but not perfect.

Seriously, how much boost spike do people see with the stock turbo? I was spiking to ~10psi then levelling off at 5psi or so with the stock settings and an I/C. How normal is this? Or is it a product of the way my boost control is set up?
-
Hehe, I think it looks good! I can tell its sunny there anyway. Ditto to what Mat said.
-
Or chlorinated poly vinyl chloride for that matter. It wasn't a huge amount of pressure, I think maybe 120psi was the max we could coax out of our shop air system. The secret was the 3/4" SS ball and the tight fit, combined with a long barrel, quick trigger opening and a fairly big resevoir.
-
That is just cool. Me and a bud made one similar one night at work on a very slow nightshift over the christmas holidays. We used 3/4" PVC pipe for the barrel, and did a nice pressure chamber. Pump it up with shop air and you could walk around with it. Well, we also had the perfect ammo. 3/4" stainless steel sphere's that we used in our ball grinding mill. After building this thing, we decided to test it out. First test was to grab a sheet of 3/4" plywood, stand it up in the shop, stand back about 60 feet and crouch behind a bench. FIRE! Holy crap, through the 3/4" ply like it was nothing! Uh, wait a minute. Through the hole in the ply was a nice view of our (unoccupied) welding booth. There was a big hole in the gyproc... which lined up right in line with our very very pricy TIG welder. Uh-oh. Turns out we got lucky, between the welder and the wall we had the rod rack, made from 1/2" plywood and full of welding rods. No damage to the TIG. However, the shot went 60', through a 3/4 sheet of plywood, another 60', through 2, 1/2" sheets of gyproc, and halfway into a piece of 1/2" plywood after that. Needless to say we were more selective about where we used that thing from then on.

I'm tempted to ban you for the assumption you'll be banned and the tone of the assumption to be honest. Since when are the moderators and admins here trigger happy on banning? I've been here since nearly the beginning, and a moderator since pretty much day 1. I can honestly remember no more than 6 bannings in this time, and I believe it is more like 4. How do we get this reputation to be trigger happy? We have never banned people for expressing their opinions in a reasonable manner, and I don't see that changing. Criticism has always been welcome here, as long as it is constructive and intelligent. Personally I learned how to work on Z's by reading, and not asking questions until I knew something about what I was talking about. I am sure many here followed the same path. I read every day on zcar.com for a couple of years. I barely posted in that time. I didn't know enough to post, in my opinion. I wish some people that have been here lately would think before they post. I don't see anyone of quality leaving this site because of this, because honestly there is no where else to go once you get past the basic mods. However, if you want to ask "how do I adjust SU carbs" for instance, there are plenty of places to go for that answer, and we don't need it here too.

Generally the consensus is no they are not. I've done it numerous times without incident however. I guess it depends on exactly how much you are trying to get out of your engine power-wise.
-
What engine are you talking about?
-
The words "6 cylinder swaps" were chosen specifically because this is a site built around engine swaps, not bolting on mods to the stock engine. Like it or not, that is how it is. David, I thought you had a Z forum somewhere using php as it was? It isn't rocket science to setup a forum these days, and if enough people are not liking zcar, zdriver, etc and don't feel that this 6 cylinder swaps forum is good enough, then there are other options. Regardless, we aren't saying L6 posts are gone for good. We're saying that it doesn't get its own space, and this is simply to weed out those basic questions that we get tons of, by people that are no where near being able (mechanically) to swap an engine. With that said, if you are a regular member here and have a basic question, its not going to be a problem. We all have brain farts from time to time and need to verify the basics with others.

I'm semi-serious about the rag, I've seen it before... By a bunch of people that knew very well what they were doing in and around an engine. These things happen sometimes.
-
How about a rag in the intake?
-
I'd say bob has hit the nail on the head here.
-
Its sitting in the 6 cylinder swaps forum.
-
The same place you went before... there was never a SR20DET forum. Dero, if you read the rest of Bob_H's post, you'll realize you are taking this idea out of context, and your comment on the rules is really out of context with Bob's post. (the whole thing, not just one sentance) The way I see it is that these forums should be able to moderate themselves, and they basically did for a couple years. In the first 2 years I was here, I think 1 or possibly 2 people were banned. We've become lax and let things slide now that wouldn't have been ignored a couple of years ago. The site is worse off for this. The rb info is still there. Go to the 6 cylinder swap forum and do a search with "RB" as a keyword and you've just created your own RB forum.
-
I am going through this entire forum and moving posts to the proper section for their topic. This will make the search option a little more intuative I believe. Carb/fuel pump/injector questions -> Fuel delivery Turbo/intercooler/BOV questions -> Turbo/Supercharger My car isn't running right, etc -> Troubleshooting/General Engine This forum is for specifics on 6 cylinder swaps.
-
As the origional intent of this site was for people doing engine "SWAPS", that is where we are returning. For nissan L6 specific forums and sites, there are at least a half a dozen out there. zcar.com, zdriver.com to name a couple. This does not mean that people who are going "hybrid" on other parts of their cars aren't welcome. RB, GNX, L6T, etc engines will still be discussed here. This quickly became a site where the people that have done swaps commented, those with thier hands ditry, and experience in engine swaps could help each other out. It is slowly turning into a site where we get innundated with basic engine questions by people that have taken no time to check things out for themselves, and are after quick and easy answers. Think of it as a long-term test to see if this helps our problems.
-
Stony, we are consolidating a few forums. This will a) make the search more powerful, because there are less forums to guess which an item might be in. make it easier to moderate. c) hopefully turn away some of the riff-raff.
-
They are pretty sweet... we have 5 or 6 in our club up here. I'd rule out the V8 and L6, these cars are SMALL. The radios are mounted vertically in the center consol because there isn't enough width to the car to mount them horizontally... this gives you an idea of how small these cars are. SR20DET has been done, VG30, KA24... Any reasonably powered 4 cylinder will give you a very quick car. SR20DET would be as insane as the 600hp+ V8 Z category IMHO.

NA's suffer because at 5800 feet the air is significantly less dense than at sea level. This means they don't get as much air into their engine, and basically their volumetric efficiency drops. (well, its not exactly their VE, but I don't think there is a proper term for it) Because turbo's compress the air, the less dense air isn't much of an issue. They will have less losses, and you should be able to turn up the boost to compensate for the less dense air. This is why many small planes are turbocharged.

Adjustable strut cartrige question
Drax240z replied to Heavy Z's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Eeek, thanks John... edited it. Nice of me to lay out a simple example and then make it confusing by screwing up. -
- RCA inputs go from your deck to your amp using RCA cables. - B+ is battary posative. (12V Constant, run a ~10ga wire straight to the battary) - Remote should hook up to the deck, and will turn the amp on when 12V is present. (I usually use the power antenna output on the deck to connect this to) - GND is ground, to the chassis with ~10ga wire. - L+ is probably left front, L- left rear, and similar on the right side. "high input" I don't know for sure, but it may be an alternate way of hooking up the deck to the amp. I'd stick with the RCA and leave the high input jacks unused.
