  1. I have a couple of Opel GTs laying around and was thinking about starting a project with my wife on one of them this coming spring. I am trying to figure out, what engine would be good to drop in, without having to chop the car up to much. The Ecotec engine might prove to be a good bet. Tons of performance for these things...some of them are hitting 1000HP. And now with the introduction of the Solstice they come in RWD form too. So anyone here have any thoughts or comments? Maybe a different engine combo to suggest? What do you guys think of the Opel GT? Anyway, just wanting to bounce some ideas off you guys. This is the most creative car forum I've found, even for non Z related things. Thanks! Jason
  2. I need a new turbo for my zcar and found what I think is a good deal on a turbo. It is a GT-40. I plan on making 400ish HP. I will be using a custom intake and a 60mm to maybe a 65mm TB. Also, plans are for a mild turbo cam. I'll be running MS as well and injectors that can handle 400ish HP. So...is the GT-40 overkill? Anyone running one of these? Any thoughts on this? Thanks! Jason
  3. Thanks man, it had been stressfull for a while. But God and the love of friends and family helped keep me going. It was a real struggle to be able to hang onto the zcar. I had to sell my 67 cougar....would have been a real cool car once i had it done, but the ol Z....I just couldnt part with, u know.
  4. Hi everyone, It's been a long time since I have posted on here. I have been through a lot of changes lately. Lots of tuff stuff but now recently things have strarted looking better. Light at the end of the tunnel kinda thing. Past couple of years I went through a lay-off, death in the family, getting stuck at a couple of dead end jobs....ect. Struggled with some matters of the heart (girl trouble). Found a keeper now. Things just kept getting worse it seemed like. I was and still am (thank God) a pretty positive kinda guy, but I started asking myself...why do I even bother getting out of bed. Then recently things just started turning around. I have found a very good job, am buying my first house and it's in a good area. Needs a little work, but will be nice when I am through with it. Have an oppertunity to get a better paying position at work...hope that works out. And last but not the least...I found the woman of my dreams. Well, I had known her for many years...just that there was no way for us to be anything other than friends at that time. I had to watch her struggle in an abusive relationship for many years until she really realized what it was, and what she was worth. She finally divorced him, this being no small matter to her...she thought it would be a sin and he used that to his advantage. I could write a book about this...but i'll not at this time, haha. After she left him I could finaly tell her how i felt and she told me how she felt. See, I knew her before she was married and we both liked each other then. Well to make the story short, we are now together and are planning to get married next year. So, as of right now things are going good and getting better and with my new job i'll have the funds to continue working on my Zcar! Oh, Crystal my soon to be wife likes cars as well.   5. Hi all, I have a 94 Probe GT. My tranny went south and I will be installing a new one. My question for you guys is about gear ratios. I have two transmissions to choose from. I would like to know which would be the better one for drag racing. The ratios are as follows: Tranny number 1, from a 2.0L I4 probe is... 1st 3.307 2nd 1.833 3rd 1.233 4th .914 5th .717 final ratio is...3.850 Tranny number 2, from a 2.5L V6 probe is... 1st 3.307 2nd 1.833 3rd 1.310 4th 1.030 5th .795 final ratio is...4.105 My car has most of the bolt ons and has about 200-220HP (engine) So...since 1st and 2nd gears are the same would it start off slower with the 2.0L tranny since it has a taller final drive? But I get good burn outs now...some maybe a taller gear would be better anyway? The gears are closer together on the 2.0L tranny...would this give me better performance even if it has a little taller final gear? I also have a CM stage IIR clutch and a 9lb flywheel. This might play into chosing what tranny would be better for launching as well. You thoughts and comments on this would be great! There are a lot of smart people on here and many with drag racing experince.   6. Its posts like this that make me want to finish my Z soooo bad. But I had to drop almost a grand into my 1994 Probe GT to replace the tranny and clutch. Just when I think I am going to have money to spend...things like this happen. Good job on the kills! Jason

  8. That's an electronic "load cell". It's whats used to weigh things. I used to build and test them. Not sure what brand that is but it looks really close to the ones we made at Cardinal Scales. So, he is using that to get some sort of pulling measurement in pounds I guess. Would that be how he is getting his foot lbs of TQ reading? I don't know a whole lot about how a dyno really works. But I do know that is a load cell...the thing that is shaped like a "Z". Jason

  12. Everyone snap pictures of it helping them work on their Z cars...haha...though that might give you away.... OR, just get pics of it at work with other members. Maybe take a couple pics of it getting interviewed at other jobs...maybe the beanie baby just got tried of the same ol' routine. Needs to add some spice to it's life, someone take it out on a night on the town. I have SO wanted to do something like this with my next door neighbor's garden gnome. We could have tons of fun with this. If everyone took care not to harm it too much, haha. You could even try to get one that looks just like it, then pass it around.

  18. Dude almighty...you guys need to meet my neighbor. She is...well, one mean old lady. Everytime I have friends over she calls the cops. Its almost a town joke now. We dont have wild or loud parties or anything like that. And if anyone parked in front of her house...it was trouble. It got so bad that now I have them park in the yard. Those with trucks that is. The cops kept showing up and "asking" me to move the car. There was really never more than one in front of her house at one time. Right next to my driveway. After the cops showed up for the um-teenth time they started chatting and hanging out with us for a bit. Guess cops like X-Box too! Ha ha. The old lady finaly figured out that the local cops would'nt do anything about it so then she called the Sheriff. Not sure about this...but how can a sheriff tell me to move a car when its legally parked, and in city limits too. Maybe she knew him or something. I have never harassed this woman or have been anything but nice to her. All I get are police on my door from her. I have no other complaints from any of my neighbors at all. In fact..the old lady on my other side likes my really well. Not sure what the other woman's problem is. Well, one good thing about this is that I made some new friends...its good to know a few cops. I think now they just ignore her calls. Hope she doesn't ever really need them, they might not come. Jason
