  1. I never thought of that, but that would give a protective coat. I'll give it a try. Thanks.
  2. I'm having my shell media-blasted and was told that seam welding would be a good idea, but the painter told me to get a coat of primer on the bare metal within a day or rust would start to form. Any suggestions? How long will it take me to seam weld the entire car?
  3. Highlands Ranch, CO. It really frustrates our yuppie neighbors that we have a car that is more than three years old!
  4. I've been pulled over with my Denver Police sweatshirt or Polo on and they have let me off with a warning (several times and once in Kansas). You can get one downtown. The key is to be respectful and don't ever pretend to be a cop. Admit it if they ask. You just wear the shirt and usually they don't ask. The guy in Kansas was so bold as to tell me 'professional courtesy'. It was tough explaining that to my kid though... I'm going down soon, so let me know and I can pick one up for you.
  5. Hi Marc, My son and I have two 240z's, but we are only rebuilding one of them. I have an extra steering rack, cross-member, steering column, etc. Let me know if you'd be interested in those. You'll want to buy a few pieces like tie-rods and boots, but we can talk through those items. Regards, Guy
  6. Sounds like we should just dive in... Thanks for the advice. How do you clean the connector ends that plug into the existing components?
  7. That sounds like a lot of work. Any idea how long it will take?
  8. Buying a replacement seems like a good idea. Do the connectors on the replacements work with the gauges / engine wiring harness?
  9. Hi All, My son and I have the dash apart on the 240z and we wanted to recondition the wiring harness once and for all. I checked "How to Restore Your Datsun Z car" with no luck. We searched the threads, but didn't see any related topics. Any ideas on where to find this information? Any suggestions? Your help is appreciated! Guy and Caleb
  10. brisk1961: It would be great to have you over to talk Z's and let me pick your brain for ideas. Send me a email and we can set something up. olderthanme: Thanks for the post. I will definetly look up the work logs, including yours. Your car is looking great. Looks like your electrical system is doing well based on how bright your lights are!
  11. Thanks for the information. I'll keep that 'top of mind' when I'm doing it. I'd love to see the pictures.
  12. How much time did it take you to do the install? Was it difficult? Any suggestions. I'm doing GC suspension on mine and am curious how much time it will take.
  13. Sweet Ride! What exhaust system do you have?
  14. I did pick up the car in Arvada a few weeks ago, but the body is being picked up later today or in the morning. My son is excited and he loves younger kids as well. You should bring your youngsters over and we can work on it together! I'll check it out. I'm sure the bedliner place has examples of the finish. My main priority is that it doesn't rust on the bottom. Is that really the best method for stopping rust? Someone told me to powdercoat the bottom of the car. That sounds expensive, but which one would work better?
  15. The snow works for my new Avatar! SLOWNRUSTY, what are you driving?
  16. Hi Tom, When you say do the body first, do you mean take the whole car to finish paint before doing the other work? Should I just take it to primer and then start do the other work? Every couple days, I walk out into the garage where the orange Z is and find my son pretending to drive the car! He keeps smiling, so I think he's happy. Thanks, Guy
  17. That sounds like a good idea. Does it look good? I've heard that truck beds often rust under bedliners. Is Line-X different?
  18. Hi All. This is our first post on HybridZ! My son and I are doing a project together. We just bought two cars and we are trying to decide the proper order of work to rebuild the car. Here is a little more background. 1) We bought a '73 240z that has been stripped and there is NO rust other than very minor surface rust that is making its way through the primer. Here is a list of the body work we want to do: - Remove all dings and grind down steel patch on the rear of the car - Replace tail lights with Skyline R34 GTR tail lights - Re-blast body and dip all panels - Acid Bath? - Epoxy or Urethane primer? - Urethane ZG Flares molded into body and front air dam (Urethane) - Paint bottom of car and wheel wells black - Paint engine compartment to match body - Custom paint work 2) Install new Ground Control coilover conversion 3) Install Arizona Z 5 lug disc brake conversion 4) Install L28ET from 83zx 5) Install new fuel tank or fuel cell 6) Insall BW T5 with custom drive shaft to ? differential and CV axles 7) Complete interior, trim and wheels So here are our questions? In what order do we do the body work? Do we have the entire car reblasted, remove the dings and then have the car epoxy primed before installing the flares, etc.? Do we put the suspension on first so we have a rolling chassis? Do we paint the engine compartment before we install the engine? HELP! We want to do this right, but we don't want to do it right several times if we can avoid it!!!
