  1. they are only PROVEN because someone had a crazy idea to see if it would work/fit... and for that fact sometimes things that are PROVEN go terribly wrong even in the most advanced groups. one off stuff is hardly ever "PROVEN"
  2. guess you'd have to tape up the windshield or something so you dont get too messy with the fiberglass lol. well... i guess im going to leave the 280z dash in mine until i finish customizing the ZX dash frame to the new dash design.. i'll post pics w/progress (i have too many projects going on at the moment so... yeah... lol) good luck sk8ter
  3. i was just wondering cuz... damn they have good prices and they actually offered ZX parts... and are suppose to add more.. just really slow in the making i guess... patience is not my virtue.
  4. Lucky for me i have a beetle junkyard about 15 mins from me lol... well its more like a guy that has alot of beetles.. dont know if he sells parts or not but im tempted to stop by and see how much... if not the MSA aren't a bad price... didnt realize they were so cheap. are they steel or fiberglass? Also twofortymusclez when i look at that pic... it made me realize how easy it would be to actually make my own.. it looks kind of like you cut away the extra metal... got a big tire.. leaned it at an angle and glassed over it.. lol sure thats not what you did... but if you look and use imagination thats what it looks like.
  5. thanks to those that have gave me info i've needed... OTM and 260DET thanks for the pics and in depth info.. thanks for the link also mike.. i may use that...
  6. yes but... not my car... but when i was looking you can find them CHEAP compared to flares MADE for a z... you just have to trim the beetle flares up a little... weld um up and you got steel flares cheaper and sturdier than fiberglass ones..
  7. i know about the painless kits.. but the prices are PAINFUL! i have wire and terminals etc already... i guess ill just get a wiring diagram for like an 83 camaro... and use my zx wiring diagram to copy what parts i need. now just have to locate a fuseblock that i like...
  8. the showcars vendor post keeps on coming up telling how bad they are etc... well what about zfiberglass?? anyone had ANY contact with them recently? their site hasnt been updated since september... i called and only got voicemail... says they are in the works on new ZX and Z parts on their website... just wondering if anyone has had any contact w/them..
  9. also these are REALLY nice to me... volkswagon beetle flares http://album.hybridz.org/showphoto.php?photo=12600&cat=500&ppuser=18896
  10. i've tried to draw it out... and OTM i did that same fuseblock replacement in mine... some stuff in the car didnt work right until i wired those new fuseblocks in.. lol stuff would flicker off and on. i guess im just a perfectionist thats why i want to rewire the car.. i dont like the idea of having all those wires with power to them... but they arent connected to anything.. and im afraid to go cutting wire that i dont know where they go... i dont plan on cutting all the wires out the car and starting over... just mainly i want to start from the fuseblock (want to get a different one.. the autozone ones had cheapy type connectors) and run wiring OUTSIDE of the car. in individual harnesses etc... what all circuits would i need? typically 12-18 i know, but do i need seperate circuits for left HeadLight and right HL... etc. also when do you know you need relays? at work engineers put all our parts into production orders and have it drawn out on wiring diagrams so its not like i design my own electrical boxes ya know.... but i understand them. sorry im ranting on and on... anyway point being... if im going to do it outside of the car so i can swap it all at once.. where do i begin?
  11. glassing inside the car will more than LIKELY cause need to remove the windshield right? thats the reason i was going to glass mine outside... BUT if you say it will warp (you have experience with this i dont really) then i take your word and suppose i'll have to bite the bullet and remove the windshield also.. geeze.. everytime i think i can get an easy way out lol... thanks for the info though.. im using ideas from your dash design so you know better than i do if it will warp or not.
  12. forgot the zx... the IMSA square flares that zfiberglass has listed would look good on a zx.. i plan on making some flares that are kind of like them.. as for the front bumper the zx looks great with the zx gnose... but where in the world will you find one other than japan?
  13. not EXACTLY off the shelf but my fav combo would have to be.. PORKCHOP! sexay azz car. 280yz's are great..
  14. I was wondering if anyone knows any sites that show how to wire automobiles. I wire industrial air conditioners and know how to read wiring diagrams etc, and i have a good understanding of what parts do, i just cant seem to figure out how to do it from scratch. like... i dont know where to begin. do i keep all the wires from the ignition switch? that sort of thing.. if there are no sites i guess i'll buy a book. any good books out there that someone can suggest?
  15. im definatly going to glass mine outside of the car... im doing the same thing (have a stock 280z dash in my 280zx for the time being.. dont know why tho its not hooked up lol) i cut ALOT of my dash up and it is very weak right now.. when i get my welder (first of feb) im going to weld supports to hold it together and stiffen it up.. i did kind of what aguyandaredhead did in his post.. although mines a little different. i dont think it would kick enough to warp the dash as long as the dash isnt warped before you lay the glass. im post pics of your progress if you have them.. i'd like to see.
  16. 280z dash fits in 280zx... not perfect tho.. new brackets have to be made, and a new cap to fit against the windshield.. dont know about 240 in a 280 tho.. sorry.
  17. not trying to hijack the thread but i didnt see a use in starting a NEW thread for this question... has anybody tried the mig 200 welder off harbor freights website.. it has the gas option and is on sale for i think $399 believe it said it welds up to .036" steel which is what... like 18 gauge? if its a decent welder that may be the way i go...
  18. nice.. so does it reflect enough heat that you dont have to worry about vapor lock, also if it gets too hot could it melt? that would be pretty bad... i mean i know rubber hose can melt also.. but just asking.
  19. it should not overwork the pump... the pump is going to run as long as the car is running REGUARDLESS. the pump is going to pump the 30 something psi REGUARDLESS. the regulator just puts all the extra pressure back into the tank. how would that overwork the pump? it wouldnt. if you run the car 30 minutes the pump will pump 30 minutes at the same psi it always pumped... just more pressure will return back to the tank.
  20. thanks i thought that is what would happen... and i also thought about a filter but didnt know if that was the way to go... thanks for the help again. ill check out that filter
  21. im installing a sbc 383 into my 1983 280zx. what is to be done with the evaporation tube from the gas tank? can i plug it off? or is that a bad idea? do i HAVE to have the charcoal canister?
  22. i agree sanderson is good... im working on a deal through hedman. we're still working out the details, but if only 3 people have comments, and they are "IFie" then im not going to do it... also i mentioned 0 setback to 1 1/2 possibly 2" setback.. as i said still havent worked out the details... and the kit w/o headers would (if my numbers are correct) be a GOOD bit cheaper than jtr or msa... but if no intrest in it then im not wasting my time or money to get it started. it works great on my car and thats how it will stay. if anyone is intrested in the kit just PM me and we'll talk.
  23. I am in the process of trying to get together a 280zx sbc conversion kit for all the zx guys out there. Motor mounts, tranny mount, optional headers, and all nuts/bolts necessary (grade 8). I have the kit installed on my car right now (a design that i had made before the msa or jtr kit even came out only just now got around to using it as i JUST got my engine complete) The kit will use the stock nissan mounting points, with 0 setback position (located directly over the stock mounting points) up to 1 1/2" setback. motor mounts are planned to be made from aluminum, while the tranny mount possibly galvanized. the headers will fit without any modification. after that comment. I need to know how many people are intrested in the headers, because i am getting them custom made. Once i know a number of people i can then get you guys a price on the headers. The kit is still in the planning stages, as i am checking around on prices to have them made. Once prices are found out i will post them here. Please reply with header request ONLY. i am not taking orders for the kit or the headers, just need to know how many people are intrested in the headers, and stating that i am working on the kits. more parts for the zx will follow if this is a success, including eventual: radiator, and brackets, driveshaft, and possibly some body parts after that. So, who's intrested in some headers for the 280zx?
  24. the truck headers did not work. but i have something in the works... check out new post on starting zx sbc conversion kit This is the link... http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=117220
