  1. what would you guys do if you sold 2 z cars to someone out of state over 2 months ago.. they paid you the full agreed amount and picked up one car 2 months ago but never came for the other. no call.. no email.. nothing. i've long deleted their email and only gave them my #.. i never got his. so its been 2 months and i still have the other z... what should i do? as i said he's out of state.. isnt like i can put it in the classified ads of the paper or something...
  2. the stuff im talking about is really fine mica (believe the spelling is correct) i think its something like .004" in size.. very subtle look.. just looking for a show quality finish (the prices i can get it for.. theres no reason i cant sand down and repaint if i get a few nics and dings) i saw a few that were blue candy with green pearl... could only see the green when the sun hit it.. looked like a green glow to the paint.. pretty cool.. i saw white pearl figured it would look better than the green on my car.
  3. what??? show me pics of the zx widebody kit.. i might buy it from you and you can just BUY normal Z widebody fenders w/o having to cut zx ones up! pm me if you're intrested.
  4. as i understand it.. candy concentrate is added to clear... if your base is dark the shade of the candy will be affected differently than if it is a lighter base.. so if i understand you correctly.. then yes it can be done that way.. but depending on how much concentrate you add... if you add ALOT it wont matter what your base is really... candy is transparent.. but only to a certain degree..
  5. the flakes im suggesting are .004 in size... not really a flake at all.. its called their "dust" line of flakes. and on their site it says that spraying pearl over the candy gives an "intresting look" i agree about the shopping cart.. lol and im not going to just go with what you guys say (not being mean or anything) i just wanted opinions i know there are too many factors to acutally say "yes this will look good". i plan on testing out various ways of doing it and in different sequences to see what looks best.. and as far as the pearl.. i believe they were saying basically to LIGHTLY dust it on... i want the final job to look candy blue with hints of the metallic dust, and in the light have a sort of white glow to it... from the pearl... any suggestions on how to get this done? was i going in the right direction? thanks for all of the info so far guys my friend and i have been doing single stage paint jobs around here and now we want to up our game... test it out on the ZX or my 2005 Silverado first lol...
  6. yeah... i thought about the touchup thing also.. but... i mean by the time that came along i'd probably be ready to repaint anyway (hopefully.. knowing my luck it would be 2 days after i painted it lol) so.. you say no clear between? i only said that because i read the clear would help protect the "artwork" underneath incase you screwed up and had a run after you cleared and started on the next step... if you're good i guess it wouldnt matter. lol
  7. Ok. i've used the single stage paints some and im now intrested in multi-stage painting. i've kind of been pondering on this combo... if anyone can chime in i'd appreciate it... *first mid to dark primer *second .004 silver flake 1 possibly 2 coats depends on how much glitter after first coat *third 2 candy blue coats *fourth 2 clear coats (to protect the candy just incase i screw up) *fifth 2 coats of white pearl *last 2 coats of clear that adds up to be what..possibly 10 coats (not counting the primer) would this combo even work out right? i put the flakes before the candy because i want them to be subtle being the candy is partially translucent.. anyone who knows about multi-stage painting please chime in... im new so be kind lol
  8. http://www.chevyasylum.com/column/column-10r.jpg its out of a chevy steering column. i know its up near the screw that holds the tumbler in but i cant remember how or exactly where it fits.
  9. lol wayne.. i feel like really treatin it like a boat anchor and chunkin it in the nearest lake... BUT i've got a good bit of money in it and i've got ALOT more time than money. i adjusted the TV cable as stated in the links posted here... still no go... i dont see how neutral would be a drive gear instead of neutral unless he mixed something up.... that could be keeping the tranny from shifting into 2nd... i dont know.. lol im not a tranny guy... BTW my dad and uncle know the Godley guy that you said built your tranny. They got him to build one for their 71 firebird when they were racing it in cordele... like 10+ years ago..
  10. put the car back up in the air today... guess what... i dont have a neutral gear??? goes park.. reverse.. drive drive drive drive drive lol... its weird... so now im pretty sure its not something im doing... im pretty sure now the person that built my tranny did something wrong. guess i've gotta take the tranny to the shop now... geeze this sucks.... any comments on what could be wrong with these symptoms? No Neutral gear No 1-2 shift Dont know about 2-3 or 3-4 because it wont come out of 1 When in 1st high revving causes slippage pretty sure the guy who built it didnt put the shift kit in right or left SOMETHING out... possibly one of the balls?
  11. im afraid by now its severely damaged the tranny and/or torque converter... i let someone borrow my hoist.. but monday or tuesday im going to pull the engine/tranny out... what are things i need to look for in the tranny other than the obvious (metal fragments etc) how would i tell that it's "burnt up" also i've heard the torque converter should only turn one way if you stick your finger in and turn the internals is this true?... i hope the tranny isnt shot.. got alot of money in it..
  12. well... i thought it could be fluid first also.. that was the first thing i checked. as far as it taking forever to shift i winded it up pretty high.. still nothing.. and then like i said when i did that it started slipping bad.. then when the rpms drop back down it grabs again.. and starts pulling again. it shifts into reverse fine.. and drive fine... it spins tires like hell in 1st but still sort of feels like its slipping when the RPMS go up high enough to really spin the tires ya know... i just dont get it... also i set the cable according to the link provided in this post... slid the cable forward.. pushed throttle wide open. it clicked 4-5 clicks and locked into place.. that is suppose to be set. still didnt shift... the guy that built my tranny (private citizen that owns a shop Wayne) put a shift kit in it.. said 1-2 shifts Hard 2-3 shifts hard but a little softer.. and 3-4 shifts the same as 2-3 .. i dont know.. may have to snatch it all out... check the converter etc.. and possibly take the tranny to a real tranny shop to see whats going on... any more suggestions are appreciated... BTW.. my buddy just got the steal of the year... '67 Mustang thats not in real bad shape.. for $300 bucks... and I may be getting a '71 firebird from the same guy for less than that! lol said he wants to get them out of his yard... glad he feels that way.
  13. i didnt change the pan.. i have the tv cable set tight (with no throttle applied) soon as the throttle moves the tv cable moves... so i guess its right... i dont know.. *edit* also just tried not putting it in actual drive... just starting out in gear 1.. then manually shifting to gear 2... nothing.. same thing...
  14. ONE thing after another for me guys... I've drove the car "putt putting" around the yard... road...etc.. today i went to drive it down the road.. ive never drove it fast enough to change gears and guess what... it DOESN'T. i dont know if my TV cable is set wrong or WHAT! its a 700r4 freshly rebuilt with kevlar clutches (racing kit) beast sun gear shell and a few other goodies i cant remember... i get up to RPM where i feel it should change gears... it doesnt at all... if i wind it up more the tranny slips bad... and then when it gets almost back to idle rpm again feels like it starts grabbing again... i started the engine w/o fluid in the converter someone mentioned this would burn up the converter... sound like thats the problem? i hope not! this car is driving me crazy lol... and to beat all.. i cant even go to SEZ. my fiance has to work and i have no one to watch the kid... the car doesnt look like it'd be running anyway but DAMN! i've busted my ass for a while (since i missed september SEZ) to get the car running and its like the Z gods just aint feelin' it..
  15. yeah its just a little grungy looking... no real grease etc.. its a new engine.. my alum intake is turning a little ugly.. lol i guess thats a given though..
  16. im looking for a schematic on how to wireup my 4th gear lockup on my 700r4 for cheap. i did a search and came up with a link that was to geocities but it was out of date.. he mentioned having a switch that made an indicator light come on that locked 4th gear... when brakes were applied it kicked it out of lockup and the indicator light turned off, until the button was pressed again.. does anyone have a copy of this diagram? or could someone draw one up or tell me how to wire it up? thanks.
  17. just a quick question about cleaning the engine. i know i need to cover the distributor with a plastic bag or something... but what else should i do? is it safe to pressure wash? or should i spray on engine cleaner and then wash it off with the waterhose? any suggestions?
  18. thats good news wayne! i got to drive mine around a little more today also... it is doing pretty good... only problem i seem to have is the automatic shifter is pretty hard to shift... may be because it is new, i dont know. its the b&m hammer shifter. i havent got to drive it enough to actually make it shift gears down the street etc because as you said i want someone to follow me in the truck also! lol. i hope my 700r4 TV cable is setup right... guess i'll see when i get to drive it and shift through the gears. im going to be like you were last year wayne if i DO get finished in time it will be saturday afternoon. lol. if not... i may haul the car just to get some tips etc on it from some of the guys that will be there. glad to hear you're back up and running!
  19. finally got to drive the car a little wayne.. well.. around in the yard... and a few burnouts lol.. no actual highway time yet.... that darn fuel pump keeps dying out on me... tyler is gonna get a visit from me tomorrow lol.. also the Junkyard is gonna get hit up a little bit.. if you do need some help when you get the tranny back let me know... i've been busy getting some stuff done for other guys i work with (i know.. 1 week till sez and im trying to help other people with their cars) hopefully karma will be on my side lol and help me get this thing done in time!
  20. seems like the Ga boys cant get their act together huh wayne and warren? lol.. im in the same boat.. just got the shifter pretty close to installed... have to hit up the JY for some expensive parts that i dont have time to wait to be shipped... lol the list goes on and on... i may not have a dash in the car either..... IF i can even get the car ready in time.. and wayne if you need ANY help let me know.. you came to help me and ill return the favor if i can.
  21. hah... i know... that is probably going to be the way i go... tyler hooked me up with a b&m hammer shifter today for a pretty good price.. one i couldnt refuse anyway... lol.. im probably going to go the holley fuel pump route.
  22. ahhhhh i think now my fuel pump is going out... lol its not really building up any pressure... when i do get it to build up enough that i can hit the throttle and shoot some gas into the carb it fires right up.. runs a few seconds then dies... i hit the throttle and no gas goes into the carb... for some reason it isnt pumping like it should.. we discussed that before wayne... i believe i'm going to try another pump see if that works... im so dang tempted to just get a holley fuel pump that is made for a carb and get rid of that fuel pressure regulator....
  23. nope.... didnt put the fluid in first.. hopefully it didnt fry it.. if so.. thats a hard lesson to learn... lol cuz torque converters dont come cheap.... i've heard that also but i hope it didnt.
  24. ah man there really is NO telling... if its just the fender no biggie.. i dont know how your brake lines are ran but you might want to check them for damage.. may have got kinked or pinched off... also if the car actually hit the ground after the tire came off check rotor and other components that could have hit the ground for damage... no other real ANSWER we can give you
  25. ohhh ok i see.... the thermostat is a 195 i pulled it out to check it.. so the higher it is (to a certain point) the longer the coolant gets cooled.. i understand now. could also be staying around 200 because the car isnt moving... that would have alot to do with it also.. i have a taurus (1993) fan wired on high speed soon as the car is started. what is the range you have to start worrying about the temp?
