Finally Painted!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

i agree his is awesome... but the zx really isnt that bad of a car... IMO the 80-90 model mustangs are butt ugly... but thats just my taste.. a Z is a Z no matter if it has an X behind it or not... -
I have a 383 stroker with the following specs. I am just wondering if possibly a turbo could be added with little mods to my setup... the cam is probably too big.. im just starting to read up on turbo setups etc... just wanting to know what to expect to change later if i do add turbo or Twin turbo. also, i plan on flipping a set of manifolds i have upside down doing the twin turbo setup that way... any suggestions on the amount of boost i can run with the hypers, and the cast crank? right now (according to an engine builder that input all my stats) i should be right around 375-400 hp so the crank doesnt worry me yet since its rated to 500... anyway.. any input is appreciated. 2 bolt main 350 block stock heads (cant remember casting number but machinist said they were good flowing heads) that were ported and polished. 2.02" intake 1.60" exh h-11 tool springs rated to .600 lift 1.6 ratio rockers Comp Cams: XE284H-10 .507 intake/.510 exhaust duration @ .050 intake 240/Exhaust 245 lsa 110.0 Keith Black Hypers the silv-o-lite brand flat top speed pro plasma-moly-coated rings Eagle crank (cast rated to 500hp) Eagle i-beam rods 5.7" Edelbrock performer rpm

Who swaps their engines by themselves?
V8_DatZun replied to Plague_oc's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
i agree on having all the parts on hand.. IF AT ALL POSSIBLE GET A DONOR CAR THAT IS RUNNING TO PULL THE ENGINE FROM!!! i built my engine from scratch longblock... BIG MISTAKE.. i've spent SOOOO much money on simple CRAP. throttle linkage, transmission throttle valve linkage, all the accessories (starter, alternator, waterpump etc) it just gets to be COSTLY and a PAIN IN THE RUMP! you will save ALOT of time and money if you buy a donor car that is running to just pull the engine out of. i thought "oh well im going to totally rebuild the engine anyway why not just buy this longblock" hah.. i spent too much time and money getting all the parts together for that thing. not to mention tracking down various bolt/nut sets to put the accessories on... that crap AINT CHEAP! also as they said... if you arent' GREAT at wiring.. and love the old school look go with a SBC.. later on you can beef it up nice and have a hard running car. if you want reliability, great gas mileage, and great throttle response go with the LS series engines.. either way.. you cant lose.. its just up to you **EDIT** By the way... i ALSO had a 78 280z with a sunroof.... coincidence? or did nissan actually have an option for a sunroof? it looked EXACTLY like that one too.... -
nice clean looking z... lol.. couldnt imagine a diesel in a Z.. would be crazy. is it just me... or does that tailpipe look like a shin-gett'r?? lol
-
well i agree. i too like the s30's lines and shape a little better. the zx is more boxy but i mean it kinda grows on ya when you own one lol.

V8_DatZun replied to Plague_oc's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
i knew almost nothing about engines, or my 280zx before i bought manuals and joined this forum. i pretty much became obsessed with the car, and the chevrolet small block engine. i bought books on the engine, and read read READ the books! purchase all of the parts, jobs that involve tools that are WAY too expensive let a machine shop do the work for you. if you dont have a welder draw up a diagram of the parts you need and take it to a welding shop. again i say, READ and use the SEARCH function here. Almost ANYTHING you can imagine to put into your car someone here has done 10x before you or more. It's time consuming, and you DEFINATLY need PLENTY of shop (if not shop space atleast storage space for parts) space. Read it, look at it on the car, then you can understand the way it goes. any help you need people here are glad to answer. -

GET'R DUN!!! man that looks GREAT... pretty much the EXACT color blue i was thinking of.. wanted something that NO ONE on the road could miss... but not like.. HOT PINK or something lol.. that blue is definatly an eye popper. i gotta get off my azz and start my body work... while im waiting to get the tranny fixed -
man.. that fender and smooth front look wicked... btw i love the new intrest people are having in the zx... seems like 3 yrs ago i was one of the few that cared about the zx... today seems ALOT more people are starting to get into them
-
that could possibly work.. i got my prob fixed tho i think... mainly it just dont like to fire when you over fuel... i guess it gets too wet and weakens the arc... lol i almost lit my hair on fire by taking the back off to see if it was getting spark... bad idea... good reflexes. lol.
-
you can use the golf ball.. just have to wrap in tape like i said lol... i've been using all kind of stuff... just have to wrap it in tape to get a snug fit. the bbq lighter sucks... but i've got 2 pieces of 10 gauge wire snug inside instead of 2 screws to make it arc... the 2 wires work ALOT better.. and are stiff enough that they wont move around out of shape when the blast occurs.. lol... a golf ball w/tape will put a hole in 1/2 plywood w/my gun... biggest problem i have is spraying the hair spray i guess sometimes i spray it too close to the chamber and it gets wet... have to vent it out then leave my back cap off.. let it shoot fire out the back.. and start back over fueling.. lol ***EDIT*** i want something HARD... not fruit lol.. i want a punishing hit!!!
-
quick question.. what the heck you guys using for ammo (other than spuds) in a 2" barrel? i've been having to find stuff and put ALOT of tape around it to make a tight fit.. my gun is a 3" chamber around 2' long and a 2" barrel that is like 3' long.. hellacious long gun.. has handles and a laser pointer mounted on top.. pretty accurate.

My custom guages and display: new project!
V8_DatZun replied to OlderThanMe's topic in Fabrication / Welding
i was thinking of doing the wiring that way also... possibly getting like a wiring diagram for an 80 model camaro or something.. just to go by so i know im going in the right direction. but ill probably lay mine out on a peg board or something so i dont have to strip all the wires out and can actually drive the car... -

i've got a 83 280zx. i've tried a 280z dash in it.. it fits pretty good.. needs maybe a little trim of some type around it to get it to look good (also you have to make custom brackets etc) but im not happy with the fitment... anyone tried a 1st gen 300zx dash? the cars look alot alike although i havent really looked inside... anyone tried to fit the dash? i have custom gauges and i've cut my zx dash all up to make a custom dash just havent got the fiberglassing done yet as i've been working 7 days a week most of the time. just wondering if the 300zx could be a quick easy option for now

lol i live in tifton ga... not far from where the original hogzilla was killed.. they were doing auditions in my town for the movie hogzilla.. sounds pretty scarey huh? anyway... this hog looks ALOT bigger than the pic of the one that was shot here.. lol "ONLY 8 shots" not to mention they stated in the article i read that the guide AND his dad were standing ready with high powered rifles incase the hog decided to charge them.. also had to have a freaking BACKHOE get the thing out of the woods... lol.. the only question i have is what would those 3 guys have done if they were in the woods WITHOUT guns.. bet they wouldnt have been so anxious to mess with this hog then.
-
those look to be the style i want i think... im wanting to keep the squared body style.. just extend it out for wide body.. and then flare around the wheel well a little.. they dont look too bad... but i still think i may just make my own so i can customize where i want... im SURE someone will buy them from you though!
-
LoL could be why.. but the other one was for his buddy.. the 2+2 was suppose to be a replacement for his 240z that was rusted beyond repair... thats why i dont understand... oh well.. someone will buy it. its not like im taking a loss on it.. i've already sold it once lol.. not many times you can make money off a car 2 times.. the wifey just got a new job after looking for 1 1/2 months.. so maybe i can use the money from selling this car again to GET THE TRANNY FIXED IN THE ZX if you didnt read my post.. i was having fuel problems with the new 383 stroker.. thought i was going to miss sez.. got some help from someone on this board.. got it fixed.. then i go to drive it and all.. wont shift out of first.. the guy that built my tranny didnt install my shift kit correctly.. !DOH! so.. i gotta pull the tranny back out.. (which is good.. cuz i gotta massage the tranny tunnel a little anyway) and pay $300 to get a new shift kit installed by a reputable shop.. cant wait to drive it like i stole it! (sorry to get off topic just thinking ahead lol)

there is no title.. but i have the bill of sale.. in GA anything older than i think 1985?? you dont need a title for.. bill of sell will do. and i still have that from the PO. and if i go by $25 pr day as you said.. his time is up. but being a nice guy.. like i said ill keep half of the total price... incase he does contact me about it later on. any more suggestions?
-
i know... we agreed on one price for both cars.. he paid that price in full.. so whatever i sell this other car for (its in the better shape than the one he picked up lol i dunno why he got the other one first) will DEF be over half of what i sold him the 2 for.. anybody looking for a project 1977 280z 2+2 w/engine and tranny.. plus 2 extra engines.. and a few other trannies.. heads.. couple sets of rims.. ill include it all for a price. i live in south ga.. PM if intrested. if the guy DOES come back for it in another 2 months ill just give him half of the total price he paid.. tell him i had to get it out of my yard. cuz i kinda am pressed to get it out of the yard... if you count the wifey bytchin about it being there...
-
LoL.. me and my friends joked about actually telling the guy that someone came and said they were his brother and we helped him load it up.. but really.. lol what should i do? give it another couple months? i mean.. i want to get it out my yard! and if "legally" i've gave him the amount of time by law to pick it up.. i may just put the other one in the paper. i hate to do that but geeze... close to 3 months??
