i've always been told 1/2 to 3/4". an inch seems a little over board IMO... my last driveshaft was 1/2 and i had no problems.. the drive shaft im speaking of in this thread is just a hair over 1/2". i will be connecting my shifter in the coming days and will be posting pics of the shaft and car like i said i would. waiting on my welder to arrive so i can weld up the old shifter hole in the tranny tunnel.

Not your typical 280zx... check it out, quite different & unique

Lmao i gotta be the luckiest SOB today! I just got my driveshaft adapter from JTR for the 77 2+2 so i go to measure for my driveshaft to be made... the distance from U joint to U joint i needed was 35 3/4" with the yoke all the way in the tranny.... i pulled the tranny from a 80's model suburban that had a 2 piece drive shaft and im using the front shaft to make the shaft for my z... got to looking and was like damn... thats pretty close to 35" it may be TOO short... i measure it guess what it turns out? 35 1/4" from yoke to yoke... haha.. 1/2" clearance which is what i need... i was like noooo way.. had to measure it like 20 times to be SURE.. i NEVER have luck like that so now i dont have to get it cut... i just have to take the back spline part off and get new u joints! yay! lmao.. that just made my day.. wish i had more of this luck.

but the gnose is being made for the 280zx... http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=137870 i figured there would be more hype about it. maybe just no one saw it? figured i would throw the link in here incase... nice looking piece and RARE AS HELL in the US
-
i'd be intrested definatly in the fenders.. possibly the bumper cover and hood
-
lol sorry zeeboost... it is a nice piece in my opinion... doesnt look like it'd be TOO hard to fab something in that general idea out of fiberglass... but it would be much more fragile than this one.
-
lol.. let me see a zx like that..... cuz who knows... that may be an option i go with..look at the concept picture in my sig... would look wicked if it was made kinda like the 2nd picture of the red car.

my 2005 silverado has the 5.3 vortec v8. it has GREAT acceleration. its kinda hard actually to not spin tires a little... and thats a xcab w/short bed and stepsides. its a fairly heavy truck.. but you cant tell the engine that... in the truck i get somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 mpg highway... prob around 15 city. i dunno if its the gears or what.. but it has GREAT acceleration, then around 30-50 its a little sluggish.. but once it gets into OD it picks up speed FAST. also if you were intrested mine has the option of running e-85. and they actually suggest in the owners manual that you run it if you can find it where you live

around the outer edges of my t-tops the paint is coming off... its the black portion doesnt really look like paint... but under it is pitted metal. IS that just normal paint? or is it some sort of special coating i'll have to get redone by some special shop

thats pretty wicked! WHAT kind of flares are those first, and... 2nd WHAT type of front end??

i agree... a sticky needs to be made BIG AND BOLD that it be known that NO ONE will be treated the way ernie said he was treated.. that is crap. we come here to learn not bitch at each other so as been stated before the buck stops here. i had another member name before this one. but forgot the password.. been a member REALLY combined since 2003 and this is the most helpful site out there... dont let people get drove off by these ass mongers

well i live in a rural area.. the water and sand wouldnt hurt my land i dont think... and i have city water so i dont have to worry about it going down into my well water or something... i dont believe as dry as it has been here it would get past the first few inches of soil anyway... so for doing small jobs like maybe blasting surface rust etc... would this be a good option?
-
that is a GREAT idea.. (the cameras) i was FEARING removing the side mirrors AND not being able to see out of the quarters.. the cameras will be almost invisible AND give good visibility. I already was going to add a dvd screen to the center of my dash. possibly mount the screen for the cameras where the sunvisor is... kind of hang down.... or possibly between the two visors.. im going to modify everything in the interior anyway... can make something work.. your car is coming along nicely btw steeltoad ***EDIT*** these are the type louvers im debating on... may need some with a deeper gap so i can mount the cameras.. http://i12.ebayimg.com/01/i/06/1f/a8/7c_1_b.JPG

steeltoad.. i believe we talked about it before, in the thread that my sig pic was photoshopped in... i like your window.. i made a template to totally remove mine... i may add the 06 mustang louvers to it, and make the window the shape of them.. some of the mustang louvers i saw on ebay are NICE but kinda pricey... gives the zx the "fastback mustang" look kinda... our cars are going to look pretty similar when done... i like those flares you got too.. im going to make mine a little more square though.. just out of curiosity where did ya get those flares?

I have a 1983 280zx. I bought it in 2003 from a guy that had bought it for his daughter. LoL it was all primered and well... lets just say she wasnt "Feelin" the car... I paid him 400 bucks for it and drove it home with the clutch wore out on it.. got it home put in a new clutch it would HAUL. drove it maybe 3 times... max 10 miles in all and it had electrical problems.. wouldnt stay running. SOOOO i did what any young (19) kid would do and started TEARING IT DOWN! So now it had a 383 SBC stroker in it putting down around 400hp to the rear wheels. a 700r4 tranny that is giving me troubles now, and currently NO interior except a seat and steering wheel... COMING SOON ALL OF THIS: making the custom fiberglass dash with speedglo gauges, console, etc.. new carpet, widebody kit that will keep the zx's lines, front air dam, rear roll pan, possible roll cage, corvette or mustang tail lights, door handle delete, antenna delete, quarter window delete, all kind of goodies.... cant wait to finish it all up and have it on the road. color to paint is undecided. Possible candy blue with a white pearl, or a green pearl with dark green glitter there are some pics of it as it is today, with engine shots etc..

I will soon be needing the exhaust on my ZX done. I've thought about side pipes that look sort of like nerf bars that are on a truck.. but that i believe may be too low and cause issues clearing speed bumps etc... What sort of dual exhaust are you other guys running. I have a 383 stroker in the ZX with Sanderson headers. I thought about removing the spare tire well and making it flat... this may help run the duals. Im worried about getting them all the way out the back.

Check inside the fenders, behind the fenders where they mount close to the windshield, the floor pans, the firewall, the frame, the spare tire well, that is just about all the rust i had... oh... all around where the rear bumper mounts are. that is a bad area..

well... my 280zx with the rear window delete getting rid of that horrible pillar cover... also has deleted door handles, widebody kit... i believe it was mikelly that photoshopped the pic for me based on different ideas i had... totally changes to look of the zx.. small pic is on my signature i'll post larger pic if i have time to upload it. **the image is not my car. its a photoshopped image of someone elses ZX** -
Who swaps their engines by themselves?

lol what makes me mad is making a trip to the parts store.. 2 out of 3 dont have the part you need... before hand you look at EVERYTHING to be sure you need NOTHING else... you FINALLY get the part.. get home put it on and then you're all "oh crap.. i didnt get _____ now i cant do anything else until i get it...... *DOH*" lol.. that really gets me aggravated. murphy's law DEFINATLY applies to car wrenchin'
