hybrid turbo build ??? t3/t4?? i actually did research !!!
neorazz replied to neorazz's topic in Turbo / Supercharger
yeah i realise that but how unreliable would it be to just use the compressor wheel and the t4 housing ? i just want to make sure there the right parts and i plan on canabalising it and using mostly oem i just didn't want to have to pay huge money for the two parts i need (i think thats all i need chime in please ) -
the turbo shop told me it was a t03 60 trim

ok i read all this http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=117133 espessialy this http://www.mygen.com/users/dbruce/myz31/TurboMaps/L28ET%20Engine%20Air%20Flow%20and%20Turbo%20Compressor%20Maps.htm and from what i read it seems the t04e with the 50 trim is the best compressor choice on a l28et what i am wondering is that running on the stock exhaust wheel ? then i have this turbo i found on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230061868807&fromMakeTrack=true if if those calulations are correct and there using the stock .63 exhaust wheel. i should be able to hack toghether i good turbo using the parts i have from the watercooled 85 300z turbo i have and use whatever parts from the ebay turbo just to make all the plumbimg line up without having to buy a new 5 bolt wastegate and downpipe till later i guess my overall question is does this look like the right turbo if i just wanted it for parts ( as i've read the storys about ebay turbos) as compared to buying the three parts i need to completley rebuild my turbo (i already got a rebuild kit) i need the t4e cold side housing $30-80 t4 50 trim wheel $60-120

im starting a thread that hopefully with achive sticky status first what is the stock turbo specs for any given year ? compressor wheel trim / exhaust trim any housing changes needed ? oil or oil/water ? est. hp ? just as base line refrence second what are you running ? year z model compressor wheel trim / exhaust trim any housing changes needed ? oil or oil/water ? est. hp ? mostly cause im rebuilding my turbo right now and want to go with more power (of course) and was finding it difficult to find base #'s STock T3 from a 95 300z Heres the burt oil buildup that killed the engine it was originaly attached to
-
so does that mean i have a 1.75lb sitting in the driveway ?
-
so i got the turbo it is the 85 t3 with the single carbon encapsulated seal im in the process of rebuilding it but in the mean time i got under the hood and worked at taking out the old turbo (goal being to switch them at the same time) ... now i know why it sounded like a ball brearing rolling around in a coffee can. the compressor wheel lock nut is gone !!! the compressor wheel was just spinning on the shaft loose ! theres oil everywhere and i havent found the nut yet but on a test i did on the dismantled turbo theres no way it could fit thru the compressor wheel without snapping a blade off so hopefully it will appear as i contine to work on this the compressor looks to be pretty bent up but intact (knocks on wood) hope no stray metal chunks got sucked into the motor pictures of the carnage

600 that makes my wallet hurt just thinking about it someone should make a y adapter just like that with a metal flange and a pull cord that would work like a choke all the way in would push through exhaust out would go thru the open pipe edit: TADA i think ill try this !much better price http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Product/Pr-p_Product.CATENTRY_ID:2006307/c-10101/Nty-1/p-2006307/Ntx-mode+matchallpartial/N-10101/tf-Browse/s-10101/Ntk-AllTextSearchGroup?Ntt=exhaust+cutout and there is a selection of electronic ones at lower prices http://www.jcwhitney.com/autoparts/Product/Pr-p_Product.CATENTRY_ID:2011395/c-10101/Nty-1/p-2011395/Ntx-mode+matchallpartial/N-10101/tf-Browse/s-10101/Ntk-AllTextSearchGroup?Ntt=exhaust+cutout

85 300z turbo in 83 280zx ????S i have aquired an 83 z turbo garret t3 it has oil and water cooling has anyone else done this swap ? i wish to make use of the water cooling as well as the oil and am wondering what two points to tapin the engine cooling to get pressure flow thru turbo ? or do i just need coolant in turbo ? like i could run a small aux pump and a feed and return from the reserve coolant tank ? (could even give it its own radiator) that might be over kill ..waiting for enlightment:wink:

the cheep dimond cut headlights on ebay have a spare little city driving light bulb that pokes up thru the bottom mine came with blue for free -
ok if thats a spanner then whats the screw type thing you use to push your rear calipers back in place when your doing your brakes? i thought that was called a caliper spanner and the stearing tool looked very similar it bolted on left and right side and the socket is in the middle so it pulls the steering wheel and the nut at the same time they just called a wheel removal tool:ugg:
-
What %#^& SIZE is the bolt on the steering wheel i've tried every size i can get my hands on im about to go to somewhere and buy a socket to fit it but i need the right size cause i don't want to go back a bunch of times most of the ones i have that look like they would fit just make my horn beep:mad: the manual says you nees a spanner like tool is that something you can borrow from advanced ?

is that a boost gauge in the stearing wheel ? thats sick! -
83 280zx turbo Stock, StoCK, STocK, fuelrail with pressure gauge soon to have 300zx turbo where i live there are noise nazis if your stereo is to loud your muffler is to loud your going 8 mph insead of 5 they track you down and generally make it a bad day so how can i get 3" exhaust without making it much louder that the stock muffler at crawling (near idle) speed (see 8-10 mph). would i need to y in the middle and run 2 3" to dual 2.5" mufflers or is there a muffler that would cover that on it's own somewhere i read that the turbo itself blocks 1/3 of the engine noise and i had though about getting a full 3" cat from summit i just want to stay away from that coffe can sound the ricers have

ok so is it absolutely nesscary to put the 36-1 trigger and vr sensor on ? shouldn't it be possible to get that information from the wiring in the distributor send that info to megasquirt and then send the correct pulse to the edis module simulating the vr sensor ? or has none tried it that way . or do i have to much information and not enough intelegence ?(smart enough to be dangerous)
-
as for how much boost my gauge reads in mmhg so it was running at 3-4 mmhg im going to look and see what that translates into in psi my beetle turbo read in bar and psi so i wasn't sure how that translates edit found this http://www.lenntech.com/unit-conversion-calculator/pressure.htm soas best as i can figure maybe about 5 psi at best but at the time i was blaming the problem on leaky fuel injectors i found a cross refrence for nissan turbos here http://www.completeturboservice.com/documents/autolist.pdf i have a turbo on it 's way in unknown condition on this list it the I4420-P9002 this list says it's the same model but a diffrent part # it's off a 85-87 300zx i think that was before the design change right this should be the one with the water cooling correct ? and should bolt on (i sure hope)

well when i working onfixing the problem the neigbor lady from across the street walked over asking something about her cat and tried to light her cigerrete right next to the engine (aperntly she couldn't smell the fumes) before i told her if she light it we would all probbably die it also seems that 4 of the injectors where replaced in the past they look newer and have back on the bottom near the injector the other two are white at the bottom (more yellowish really) they are all brown top injectors what cc are the stock turbo injectors running at ?
-
i knew that was going to come back and bite me i know that that was a stock option on the subaru 2002 wrx sti it had a button to spray your intercooler
-
just take you headlight sprayers and aim them at your intercooler then you can cool your air and you don't have to buy any extra parts
-
i bought my 280zx (only 84K miles) it ran ok for two weeks even with the fuel leak im still working on fixing then one night driving home the turbo just made a horrible noise like a pop can was stuck in it i let up of the throttle and pushed it back and yopu could hear the turbo sound like it was going 40K rpm then it was normal now when i start the car it sounds like a marble being rolled around in a coffee can my guess by the sound of it is that the shaft fell out of the bearing if that is possible it sounds like the impeller is just sppinning on metal and when it goes fast enough it bounces the odd thing is it still half works i have vacume and noise at idle if i rev it will go to 0 on the gauge but never into boost now before the noise it would go to about hlfway between 0 and 7 boost does it sound like it's time to replace the turbo ? can these be rebuilt if the shaft came loose also these are a t3 correct is there enought room to hull out the inside and put in the t4 parts or are they using a diffrent housing there is a shop about 30 minutes from here that rebuilds turbos and if i have to pull it off i want to make it better or replace it what vehicles whould have a bolt on turbo that would work here? any ($low cost$ the better) suggestions greatly apprecated
