  1. Or you could spend just as much on a 350 and get even more horsepower.
  2. Do you have a guess at how much a shop would charge to inspect some out-of-the-box heads? I understand that mistakes are made, and I agree that when you're dropping a few thousand in the motor that having heads inspected is clean insurance. I would really love to learn how to do this myself, might you happen to have any guides or recommendations to learn this stuff? As always, thanks grumpy.
  3. Go with a 4L80, not a 200r or 700r in my opinion. Better gearing (Than the 700r at least) and damn stout. Not too expensive either...
  4. The throttle bodies on the trucks are mechanical while the LS1/6/2 are not. Please, read up a bit more on this stuff before you start throwing thousands of dollars around.
  5. If you are planning a budget oriented turbo setup I would stick with the stock truck heads. LS1 heads are going to up your compression. If not, I would look into going for a carburated setup on an LQ4. The swap will run you about 600 bucks, but after that you no longer need to worry about a computer or software.
  6. Roger that. Is there anything on a Z that is SS? Bad dog rails are mild, correct? Thank you for your help good sirs, I appreciate it.
  7. Thanks for the advice guys. I was confirmed that the welder is a Fabricator 210, not the 250 as I had thought. The spec sheet says it does 250 amps, however. Bad, fair, good, great deal? The tank is owned, not rented or leased and 1/2 full of Argon. And it comes with the auto-darkening helmet and a retarded amount of wire, haha. The welder will be used for auto-fabrication / dune buggy fab type stuff. I doubt I'll ever need to do anything over 1/2''. Looks like a 40% duty cycle at 210 amps, pretty impressive in my opinion. 60% at 176 But yeah, final word? Thanks again guys.
  8. Got a question for you guys. Friend of mine wants to sell me his MIG welder for $900. It's a Thermal Arc Fabricator 250 amp (220v, obviously) Comes with a half-full (big) tank of Argon, wire, gun, and his auto-darkening helmet (Not the harbour freight one). Everything I need, really. Sound fair to you guys? The gun is a Tweco...
  9. Any reason why you went with a Corvette oil pan over an F Body oil pan?
  10. You checked the plugs, right?
  11. Hmm, that's a good idea. The V10 triton series right? Those motors are everywhere, plus I think they can mount right up to C6/C4 transmissions. Maybe even a T-5.
  12. David - Own one 1973 240z that was absolute ♥♥♥♥ when I bought it. Currently my to do list is as follows: New passenger side floor board. Fix bent frame rail on passenger side. Strengthen frame rails. Strengthen front section. Drop in LQ4/T-56
  13. J Mortensen, what kind of pipe bender are you using?
  14. Excellent. Simply excellent. Looks like it handles very well too.
  15. There is one for the 350z. =P The probably hadn't added it when you posted though. Just go back one menu and you will find it at the very bottom - Z33.
  16. Hi there. Saw the thread title and thought I would chime in. What you are looking to do is acquire a Suzuki motor commonly found in their Hayabusa series of motorcycles. The conversion is quite popular for light cars. http://jalopnik.com/cars/hayabusa/ Stock the motor puts out about 175 horse and mods to 300 are not at all uncommon. Can upgrade to 350 if you want. I believe that is the *sound* you are looking for. *Edit* Here is another video with a car and a Hayabusa motor. *Edit #2* Here you can see motors for sale in the low 2000 dollar range. http://search.ebay.com/hayabusa+engine Doesn't fill the V8 requirement you have, but I'd say it's in the ballpark of what you are looking for. There is also a company by the name of Hartley that makes V8 versions of the motor. But I've been told they are ridiculously expensive. Good day.
  17. Saw mine on Craigslist for 2k. Called and offered the guy 1,300. I drove there that day (Just shy of 100 miles) handed him the cash and drove her home. It's got very little rust and I'm happy with it. Just sold the engine three days ago for 300 bucks... So I'd say I paid half of what he was asking for it. Now waiting for an LQ4 + T-56 + S400 BW turbo...
  18. That sucks that you're having trouble with the tranny. Don't drop the Z project though, if nothing else, just look for a different tranny. I live about an hour away from you and I'd love to take it off your hands for a fair price if you want to look for another one. Shoot me an e-mail with a price at tsb101@gmail.com.
