  1. Jamie T - Since you're already familiar with nitrous have you seen the kits on the market that are used for turbo spool up at launch? I first heard about it from a 300ZXTT guy who is installing one on his std. tranny car. Evidently it gives a very short shot that spools the turbos up to about 65% of boost just before launch.
  2. You can find that now for about $3,500 US. That's probably about half (?) whay they're going for there? You could definitely import for the difference.
  3. Look at rear strut brace in my album. Hoizontal bar on top with a single diagonal bar that comes from top and ties into lower part of existing brace on opposite side. Variant of that would be a horizontal bar that has two diagonals that start at the center of the top horizontal bar and go out and down to the existing braces - it would look like a horizontal K.
  4. Dude, Idaho Falls! I'll bet Z's are almost unheard of up there - maybe a few down around Pocatello? Last time I was in Boise I think I saw about 5 from various years.
  5. I work with a guy who owns an '04 Cobra who knows how my car is set up. He flat out told me one day that he'd never run me. They are very fast but still have a lot of mass to overcome. The Pony is an LS1 killer when the LS1 is in a stock F-body.
  6. My street experience in this area has been pretty much the opposite unless I go 'hood up' in a parking lot. Most of the time it's like Rodney Dangerfield - "No Respect".
  7. Yep - don't remember dumping the clutch or any wheel hop on my dyno runs. I do know of people who have blown their engines on dynos but, each time, it was a new engine or major modification that didn't have any significant run time on it.
  8. That's the heading below a photo of my '77 280Z on page 15 of the November/December issue of 'Street Thunder' magazine. It goes on to say: "It's deceitful! What you see is not what you get. Pulling up next to Bill's 280Z at a stoplight could be dangerous. Considering the stock 2.8L straight-6 and 4-speed combo have been replaced with an '98 LS1/T56 combo, a quick run through a few gears may not play out as you had hoped. Bill outfitted the car with a host of suspension, brake, and drivetrain mods. and added leather interior and a 4-point roll bar as well. Bill's Z looks good and is fun for daily use which he says he does a lot of. Have fun Bill!" http://www.streetmachineclub.com/document.asp?dID=9724 Here's the actual page on their website. Score! BTW - It's the only non-Detroit iron car in the magazine.
  9. Musta been a really stupid thief to not notice that the car was already missing the radio, had a broken glove box, and basically had nothing iside it. Strange that he'd even bother to put the T-top back in place if he were that dumb. Maybe it wasn't a thief - maybe the shop left the keys in the car & locked it and that was their way to recover the keys?

Hugh, Are you kidding or just don't realize he lives in North Carolina - not the Netherlands?
  11. China and India are buying every bit of steel they can lay their hands on and driving the pride up to like twice of what it was 18 months ago. The two biggest economies in the world are both superheated with expansion.
  12. Thumper, I assume you still have an IRS so I'll avoid any live axle stuff. If you have illuminas you should have them on the softest setting in the front and the firmest in the rear when you're at a drag strip. The rest of the time you'll probably find a 3 setting to work well unless on a crooked track. When it comes to 'avoidance maneuvers' the stock sway bars are ok but allow significant body lean when on a crooked track. I have video of my car at Texas Motor Speedway and it is very obvious I'm stock. If you are planning on using your car as a daily driver in addition to track periods I would definitely leave the sway bars in place. I drive with the assumption that every other driver on the road is out to kill me and I'd never compromise my ability to duck 'n run.
  13. I'm sure by now everyone realizes that there are definite differences between a 280 tunnel and a 240 tunnel. My 280 tunnel had to be dimpled lightly in a small area for the reverse lock-out switch with an itsy-bitsy hammer instead of the standard BFH. The T56 is fairly snug in there but doesn't require KY to get it to fit. Then too, my installation is different from everyone elses in that it doesn't have a transmission cross-member mount but a modified torque-tube to the front of the differential instead.
  14. Sparks280ZT - Yes, except for the K&N intake and the headers and the ECU being retuned to 2002 parameters the LS1 is totally stock. Not only that it is a '98 model which was one of the weakest of the bunch. Had a kid at Sam's Club this weekend that owns a Camaro SS try to talk me into a new set of heads that would boost it to around 400 WHP. If the L6 guys embarrass me enough I may opt for that. Right now, however, the car runs just too well - and reliably - to seriously plan for any engine mods. For those interested, the Cowtown Club website is www.CowtownZClub.org. You can get information on the club, check out our forum, look up our next meeting time & location and even see photos of some of our cars in the gallery. Chris' isn't there, though. So far he's been kind of camera shy.
  15. I'm really beginning to feel the heat now. As the only LS1 powered Z in the club I've been talking a lot of smack to the I6 guys just to get them riled up a bit. Now Chris comes along and puts down these kind of numbers and I'm in real trouble. His car is clean and so unbelievably stock in appearance it is a super sleeper but boy does it get up and scoot. The worst part, though, is that there are three other guys in the club running some seriously boosted L28's and they're all learning! I've got to start working on my excuses now. Let's see: I'm 600 lbs heavier uh, my air cleaner is dirty uh, my e-brake is dragging uh, oops I left the AC on - all that parasitic drag uh, must have gotten some bad gas uh, my engine warning light came on uh, ?????
  16. If you have a legitimate complaint, take it to the department head. If you don't get satisfaction then take it to the Dean of Students. Just like appealing a court ruling. My wife was a non-traditional student. She had an education professor tell her that she would be marked down because of her rigid belief system - or in other words - my wife didn't agree with her belief system so my wife must be rigid. She did that in writing so my wife replied that she would take it to the president of the university if she got anything less than an 'A' in the class. The professor wasn't tenured and, when she checked into my wife, she had a change of heart she got an 'A'. Your instructor indicated that she didn't grade papers until they were all in? Is there a deadline? Is it past? If there is and it isn't past she's well within her rights - especially if you would normally be getting the feedback from the first paper before the second one was due. One of the reasons instructors wait for them all to come in is that they grade subjectively and need to 'rank' the papers based on the rest of the papers and then assign a grade curve. Very touchy-feely and, in my humble opinion, a bogus way of doing things - but very common. I guess that's why I'm an engineer. 'Class participation' is one of the old standards used for determining academic performance. It indicates interest in the course materials and allows the professor to get a better feel for your grasp of the material - beyond papers and tests. Many times it has been a deciding factor in grading up or down. She is within her rights to dock you for missing classes. It's one of those facts of life that, just because you think something is important, it doesn't mean everyone else will - or even should. Sounds to me like you need to either shut up or stand by your principles and take the hit like a man. It's your decision.
  17. Hmm, I think I have a functional used one in my garage that came off my '77. I may have tossed it but I'll take a look.
  18. I read an article in a health magazine my wife gave me last night. It summarized a study done in Fiji with two groups of women. One group did not wear a bra at all and the other group wore them. The group that wore them had an incidence rate of breast cancer equivalent to that of US women. The group that didn't wear a bra had none. Evidently a bra stimulutes production of a hormone in the breast that, over a period of time, lowers the natural immunity to cancer.
  19. For LSx mounts go to www.brokenkitty.com and just buy them. They aren't that expensive
  20. J___: Either you really drive a lot or got your engine cheap! My LS1 costs me about $35/week for gas. FWIW my totally stock LS1 dyno'd the equivalent of 365 HP at the flywheel and averaged 19.7 & 19.5 MPG the past two weeks commutiing to work and 'fooling around' a little. 500 Hp would be a walk in the park for this engine. TRAUB83: For motor mounts and other stuff try www.brokenkitty.com. You can get your ECM edited at www.chipsbyal.com if you don't want to invest in LS1 edit. If you pull parts out of a '99 Camaro be sure to get the ECM, full engine wiring harness AND the fans & shroud. They fit a 240-280Z size radiator almost perfectly and can be plugged right into the harness for full computer control. See my album for conversion photos, etc.
  21. Yeah - the hood & bumpers indicate it's a 77 or 78 280Z, not a 79 280ZX. It would be ok for $100. There are probably a lot of parts that could be salvaged, especially if there are any good interior or dash parts.
  22. I'll bet he's heartbroken about the ding in his hood. Absolutely beautiful car.
  23. Bimmerman, I have that same front strut bar on my LS1 Z. Go to my album and look at the pictures.
  24. All mine was inside the cabin of the car. Not enough room on the other side with the T56.
