  1. With my 280Z (fuel injected to start with) I just replaced the stock pump with the John's Cars pump that has higher flow/pressure. It is mounted in the same location as the stock pump. No surge tank or additional equipment required. Using the stock Datsun fuel supply and return lines.
  2. That's basically what happened to me. I put the JSK kit with the Willwood forged superlites on the front and got a tolerance accumulation run-out htat shoook the front like a cement mixer when I hit the brakes. Just got it back from Don Davis Nissan In Arlington - WOW - smooth as silk and do those brakes haul the car down.
  3. I saw a pristine Scarab factory car sitting in the owners garage in Rogers, Arkansas a few months ago. He never dirves it - too busy with other things. One of the guys here on the board knows him well.
  4. email john@johnscars.com. He's working on a power steering kit for S30's.
  5. Yeah - $74 for both rotors - but I also get a 20% club discount so it will be about $60. Considering they do all the labor it's not too bad. If it were the 'burban I'd pull them myself and have them turned at O'Reillys for about $16. I want these rotors to be absolutely true though so I'm taking the car in tomorrow evening to get it done.
  6. Well, my speedometer was indicating 65-66 when I saw the 50 mph speed limit sign so I guess I could have been doing an actual 69 mph when I got clocked. Did I mention that the police officer was female - and very polite! The rest of you guys - elevate your minds at least to navel level!
  7. Not a bad price - if I was in the business. Not exactly the route I would take though when I'd be doing it about once a year.
  8. On the way home last night I got pulled over - supposedly for doing 69 in a 50. Got off with a warning. Guess it pays to live right.
  9. I was reading in my wifes Z32 owners manual the other night and saw a statement that Nissan service departments have equipment that allows them to turn rotors - ON THE CAR. That would most assuredly account for any and all mechanical tolerances and eliminate runout. Anyway - I checked with my local dealership - afterall it was a 1993 owners manual - and sure enough, they have the machine. Didn't know if that was common knowledge or not so thought I'd post it.
  10. I considered coming down for the Round Rock event - some folks are headed down from Cowtown Z Club in Ft. Worth - but I've been traveling a lot lately and the "Honey-do's" are staggering at this point.
  11. Not sure if we'll need to do anything with the top on the car. She NEVER puts it up! Car has been washed, vacuumed, waxed, engine degreased, interior slathered with leather and vinyl protectant, and dusted off 4 or 5 times now and we've only had it a week. Her only regret about the car is that she didn't get one sooner! I once won a "Zealous Z" award in another Z car club and I don't hold a candle to this girl. You can only imagine how much I'm enjoying this. Oh - the best part, though, is when someone asks her about my car and her comment is: "No comparison - he leaves me in the dust!" or "My car is pretty but his is striking." Does my heart good. Makes me want to beef up the tranny and put a stage II VG30DETT in it!
  12. I do need to clarify one thing. My wife is not into cars - she's into HER Z convertible and HER Suburban. She doesn't have a general thing for cars but man - everything that she could have for cars is channelled into those two vehicles - especially the Z. We went ot a Cowtown Z Club meeting last night and she couldn't wait for the meeting to be over so she could get back out to the parking lot to tlak about her car and show it off. I almost had to beg her to let me take my car to the meeting too. She catches me laughing at her all the time and I have to keep reminding her that it's joy at seeing her so happy and having so much fun - with a car! Speaking of clarifying things - Yup - The Fury was a Plymouth - Late 50's and 60's. The disciples were all gathered together in one Accord - Must of bet an early prototype, though, becasue there were 120 of them that day - and how did they get a vehicle that big into a second story room?
  13. Not only has she accepted Jesus but she now sports around in a '93 300ZX convertible. Been looking for the car for about 5 months and finally found her one. Picked it up last Saturday and she's in "hog heaven". The girl absolutely LOVES the car! Downside is now she wants more HP, a custom interior, custom top, more chrome, etc. That means fewer funds available for the 280Z28.
  14. Speak for your self Sumo -mine's a 37mm rapid-fire cannon. An don yew fergit it!
  15. Generally if you pull the rotors and hubs as a single unit, a good machine shop can turn them as an assembly and eliminate any tolerance accumulation run-out. FWIW - I had to have my OEM rotors turned on my Jeep Grand Cherokee every 17,000 miles. I fixed that though. I replaced it with a Suburban.
  16. For those of you doing LS1 and planning on using hte Abbott Cable X product to translate the electronic speed output onto a mechanical dirve for your stock speedometer be advised: I talked with Cable X today and found out that, even though they don't put it in their literature, that they strongly recommend soldering all connection and then using heat shrink tubing around it. Evidently an even slightly weak connection will cause signal loss and erratic behavior of the speedometer. I can attest to this. Oops
  17. I have the 3.70:1 R200 LSD. Depending on what you're running for tires the 3.70 may be too much. My 225/50-16 Yokohama S306's were totally overwhelmed in 1st and challenged in 2nd. The 215/55-16 Kumho Supra 712's I'm running now do better. With the 3.70's a 2nd gear start for daily driving is commonplace. It's easy and doesn't challenge the clutch, etc. When it comes time to go then 1st is a real screamer. If you build the engine a bit it might be better to go with 3.54 or 3.36 or you'll be hitting the quarter needing a shift to 5th. I'm over 5,000 in 4th now and expect it to go up some. For croooked track driving I'd stay with the 3.70's. Give you more response in each gear and still be able to carry any top speed the car can handle.
  18. Cody, I've got the forged Superlites with Juan's kit on the front. The forged units are the only ones Willwood is making now. They are replacing the cast ones. FWIW - forged is stronger than cast which means less deflection over time. Also, evidently the tolerances stacked on my installation because I have a huge shudder on my brakes. I'm going to have the whole stack-up turned to eliminate the run-out. Be advised that this may happen and don't let it ruin your day. Bill
  19. Look at the fans & shroud used on the '98-02 Firebirds & Camaros. Almost a perfect fit to the S30 Datsun radiator. Mine also maintains a solid needle width past straight down with both fans opperational and about two needle widths below hot with only one fan - in HOT Texas weather with the AC on full bore.
  20. David, Actually probably not. I won't be taking any vacation but I may stop by where everyone is Saturday night if I have time. We want time to 'gently' cruise back to DFW and enjoy some of the sites along the way. If you and Lisa are able to attend let me know and we'll definitely make the time to stop by and say hello. Bill Chris, Get on http://www.autotrader.com. There are some really sweet Z32 convertibles for sale on there right now. One only has 25,000 miles on it and has been kept in an airconditioned garage. Another has only 56,000 miles and comes with a 5yr/100,000 mile warranty from the date you purchase it. They were both more than I wanted to spend -especially since my car will be my wife, Chris', daily driver and will be doing a lot of shopping duty. Anytime you're in the DFW area you're more than welcome to stop by and get introduced to the 280Z28. Let me know ahead of time so I can be sure to be around and that the car is not in the shop. It's still going through a series of 'upgrades'. Still sorting out brakes and the going to be working on the interior and sound system.
  21. Yeah - I'm a very fortunate guy. Loving wife who supports all my Z stuff and even encourages me to fix the car up. Two sons that are great young men - both with excellent futures ahead of them - that care about me and actually like hanging out with their old man, and a wonderful daughter-in-law who has fully accepted my wife and I and is now expecting our first grandchild. Almost makes me want to cry I'm so happy.
  22. September 4th my wife and I are flying up to Kansas city to take possession of a 1993 300ZX convertible. First convertible we've ever had and we're really looking forward to enjoying it. It will put the Z stable back up to two at the house since I gave the 280Zx to my younger son. Car has a few minor cosmetic items to correct but mechanically it is a rock. It has a relatively new transmision (automatic), new rear main seal, new timing belt, water pump, and accessory belts. It has new NAPA Monroe shocks all around and less than 2,000 miles on a set of Bridgestone Potenza S03 tires. Interestingly, this is the first 300ZX convertible my wife had ever seen. It was at the Branson Z Fest this past summer where we met the owners who just recently decided to sell it. She fell in love with it at the time not knowing it would eventually be hers.
  23. For last Christmas my kids got the grille on my 280Z28 chromed. It really looks sweet. They also tried to get my ashtray (cupholder?) chromed but the plater just lyed the chrome down on the outside stating he couldn't get deposition onthe inside of the ashtray. I know it can be done with the right tooling but I decided it wasn't worth it to argue with him. Anyway, my older sone took the ashtray to a place that does spray-in bedliners and had them coat the inside of the ashtray with black bedliner. He also had the edge of the tray masked off so that now the tray has a black interior framed in a 3/8" wide chrome ring around the outer edge. Minor thing but it adds a nice touch to the interior.
