  1. Not sure why you say you murdered it. Looks like you hybridized it. Got a close picture of the plastidip covered chrome? Dennis
  2. Wow! a reference to Nietzsche and 40 year old Japanese sports cars in the same post. Is this a great forum, or what? Thanks for clearing up a great deal of mystery and misunderstanding about the overfenders, by the way. I appreciate the shared insight. Dennis
  3. I have a feeling the Marines will focus his attention. Tough way to learn a lesson. Semper Fi!!!! Dennis
  4. Thanks for posting the pictures of the "real thing". The photos answer so many questions and show how different the current aftermarket flares are from the originals Dennis
  5. That's a high demand, low supply, item. There are a couple currently on ebay for $579 & $269. Used ones sometimes show up for less depending on condition. Dennis
  6. This discussion has been going on for 15 months and doesn't appear to be near completion. You might get better results with ebay if you're serious about putting lenses on your Z. The vendor in Thailand offers them regularly. I've bought other items from him and they came through well packed and as advertised. Dennis
  7. Ouch! Did you get a repair estimate, yet? Time for the boy to get familiar with a bicycle seat. Dennis
  8. This thread appears to have run its course. What started out as a simple request for information about the capabilities of a HF welder has now degenerated to name calling, mocking, and bullying. I think the early responses made it clear that the HF unit wasn't a good choice and that there were better options for not too much more money from a variety of sources. Then the superiority complex kicked in. Any disagreement was met name calling, lack of writing skills bashing, and put downs. Tony's message above was really the icing on the cake. He managed to fit name calling, grammar bashing, a little German, and a superiority complex all into one message that really added nothing to answering the original question. Responding with an iPhone "from the front seat of a Suzuki Carry bouncing down potholed secondary coastal roads in Batangas Philippines on 3G....if that makes any difference -- or perhaps lofts me up into that High Horse position again showing my Ubermensch Propensity towards superior grammar and punctuation regardless of input vehicle..." apparently makes it all OK and adds to the discussion on the value of the HF welder. This topic is now dead to me. Dennis
  9. Since you and I have no idea of what the cost would be, no, I would not be interested. You should have probably priced them out before requesting buyer interest without indicating a possible price point. That's how marketing works. Those who responded "yes" didn't indicate how much they would be willing to pay for steel, so the information you're getting is somewhat useless. The fiberglass ones on my Z work quite nicely. Dennis
  10. I think you might find that initial tooling and a minimum production run might be cost prohibitive. The problem being inventory will be costly with tooling for four different pieces. With fiberglass, flares can be made on demand much more readily. Dennis
  11. I agree with the earlier post that said to write down a plan - sort of a "to do" list. If you want to get fancy, fold a piece of notebook paper in half the long way. On the left side, list the things that need to be done. Add the current date to each item to keep track of how long since discovered. In the left margin, give each entry a priority number1, 2, or 3. Items with a one are easy fixes, items with a two can be delayed until you have a little time, and items with a three are things that keep the car off the road - like a blown motor or leaky brakes. As you chip away at the list, write the corrective action on the right hand side of the page. For instance, "changed fuel filter" or "filled tires with air". You can also list parts and cost in the corrective action to keep track of expenses. Don't forget to list the date the task was completed. Might seem complicated, but it's easier than it sounds and creates a "feel good" moment when you close out a task. It creates a great document to chronicle your project. Dennis
  12. Probably still a little cold in your neighborhood for the seals to compress and conform. Wait until summer when they can soften from the heat on a sunny day. What you're experiencing is typical of new seals until they can experience a few warm days in the sun. Dennis
  13. Added weight of the spoiler at the rear edge of the hatch, or downforce generated by the spoiler, or both? Dennis
  14. Fiberglass the backside and lay in a piece of plastic sheet available at a hobby shop to cover the top side. A can of black satin paint finishes the job. Dennis
  15. Your comment, "Any intelligent person will take what is on a piece of paper with a grain of salt.." That says it all, especially as it applies to many of the offers of advice about salvage titles in this thread. Well said with tongue in cheek. Unfortunately, the gullible will take what you say as truth. Here are a couple links from entities who know whereof they speak - unlike some of of the opinions in this thread. They neither shout nor preach. http://www.edmunds.com/car-buying/what-is-a-salvage-title-vehicle.html http://www.foxbusiness.com/2011/06/03/5-reasons-to-avoid-salvage-title-cars/ Dennis
  16. I agree with T-Bone028 above. That is a HUGE AMOUNT of rust! And he probably hasn't uncovered all of it. It's going to take a lot more than Bondo to to get your Z back in shape. A replacement hatch may be a worthwhile investment. Dennis
  17. Normally I can take your bombast and just ignore it. Your comment above takes the cake, however. Just because you say something loudly and repeatedly, doesn't make it a fact. For me, this thread has run it's course and really didn't prove or resolve anything over the last month. Dennis
  18. A rubberized flexible refrigerator magnet works just fine. Saved me from buying a year old Scion that had an entire Bondo side and a salvage title a year or so ago. Dennis
  19. The Black Dragon bumpers are chrome plated. They don't mention if the bumper underneath the chrome is SS or other metal. Looks like a good deal if you want the clean look of no rubber trim or bumperettes. Dennis
  20. When I needed one, I traced a pattern based on the rubber inner shift boot shape and screw holes. I took the pattern to the metal shop class at the local high school and they made one for free. Too easy. Dennis
  21. Any update on the status of lenses to go with the trim rings? Also, are the aluminum trim rings coated to slow oxidation? Dennis
  22. Care to mention the price for the trim rings and show a picture? Dennis
  23. Sorry, but that's not the point. The point is that a car with a salvage title is worth significantly less than an equivalent car with a clean title at the time of sale. Going a little further, has anyone here insured a car with a salvage title for full coverage and not just liability? Dennis
