Hardest part is adding a second set of injector bungs into the intake, the rest is easy! I've put about 5-600 miles so far on 5 gallons of race gas. Including a night out at the track. Definitely a good mod.

I've got a few updates on the car, and a couple pics, but no videos just yet... I've taken it to the track again 1 time since the last post and managed to get a 6.6 @ 106. Same 1.4 60 ft. This time though, the car is pulling the front wheels off the ground. I would feel the front end slam down a moment after launching and had no idea what it was. Then after talking to one of the tech guys there, He mentioned that the car was pulling wheelies. Shows how observant I am. Also, I got tired of having to buy race gas for the car every time I wanted to take it out to the track so I designed a new fuel system for it...

The new set up looks good! Should be a monster,(again) I think my S475 on my Datsun spooled just as bad as your S480. Because I only had a 4.8L in mine. Haha. Little update on the coupe... Took it out to the track on the GT42, Managed to get a best of 6.7 @ 105mph 1.4 60ft. it was at roughly 14psi of boost, with some 110 leaded gas. I feel like it should be faster then that, just in comparing it to the Z. But it was only my first time out with the new turbo so there is plenty of room for improvement.
-
Nice! Those should work out pretty nice. Got any pics of the new set up so far? What did the S480 spool at?
-
Just a little word of advice, make sure you don't have any problems with the head gasket. I've seen many times where cooling system components keep failing (when new) and its all due to excessive cooling system pressure from a blown head gaskets. Just something to think about.

SQ, If i could have upgraded the twins easily I would have, but there just wasn't enough space around where the turbos sat to accommodate a physically larger turbo. what turbos are you going with? Hows the motor doing? I remember a while back to did a little damage to it, any updates on that thing? If you know of anyone interested in my old twin set up, let me know!
-
You're welcome to check it out anytime you would like, working on it or not. What kits are you looking at? I should be done with the turbo install tomorrow, and will probably be driving it around next weekend a bunch. If I'm up in your area I can swing by your place. Speaking of new turbo.... Here's a sneak peak pic of the progress.

Thanks! The Toy is doing great. I'm switching around the turbo setup quite a bit here, should have it back on the road in a few weeks. I'm ditching the twin set up and installing one big single. Forced performance was selling Journal bearing GT series HTA turbos for a good price so I purchased one of their GT4294HTA turbos. Should be a monster!!!! I'll let ya'll know how it goes.
-
Thanks! A/W is the only way I can fit any decent kind of intercooler on this car. More then likely the A/R is too big for the motor. I'm setting up a 2-step / anti lag system on the car right now and will be taking it back out to the track on Nov. 3rd. Should be an improvement over the last time.
-
Well I need to spend some more time tuning with these turbos. Its pretty hard to compare the two set ups. Even though these turbos are pretty small, they are quite laggy. So I'm having a bit of trouble spooling them off the line. Once I set up a 2-step in the car i'll have a better idea of what the car can do at the track. Currently, I launch the car at 6k rpm side stepping the clutch and it takes off like crazy but doesn't start boosting yet. So the RPM ends up dropping back down to 2 - 2500 then it starts to build boost and take off again. So there is a lot of down time that I'm missing out on some MPH and E/T. I got the boost up to roughly 12 psi at the track and I feel it should be trapping a bit more then 99. (the Z trapped 102 MPH when it was N/A) I'm also trying to run the car on strictly pump gas. I want it to be a street car and not be dependent what so ever on race gas / E85. The Z with the S475 was extremely laggy as well. But with the auto trans and Tbrake, spooling it was not an issue. And it was on E85. So I was able to give it lots of timing and boost. I need to run in the 6's and trap over 105 mph in the 1/8th on pump gas before I'll be happy with the way the coupe performs. Here is a link to all the pics I took while doing the turbos. http://home.tiora.net/davidc/?path=Factory%20Five%2FDaytona%20Coupe%2FTurbo

Haha! Of course, just let me know ahead of time.

How long can I run an LS1 without water?
ColtGT4g63 replied to JSM's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
You can run it long enough to verify that its got good oil pressure, and doesn't make any funny noises. -
Anybody having trouble with T56 shifting?
ColtGT4g63 replied to RebekahsZ's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
How do you know that dust is getting into the fluid? What kind of clutch set up do you have? did you buy it new or used? I had a problem back in the day with my Datsun where I heated up my disk really good. There was this gel material that surrounded the springs in the clutch disk, which ended up melting off after I cooked it really good. It fell in between the lining material and the PP / Flywheel and caused some disengagement problems. ended up replacing the disk with a new one and didn't have any more problems after that. I never touched any of the hydraulics in the system. Only exception was bleeding the clutch whenever the fluid would turn black, which was pretty often. -
Thanks! The turbos are T04B's. compressor wheels measured at about 55mm each. my goal is for 600 at the wheel on pump (maybe with methanol injection) through a T56. Should make out for a FUN street car.

I'm just gonna drop this guy right here.... Discuss!
-
Well... Its time to get this party started!
-
My goal the entire time was the keep, and use the side pipes. You can kind of see that its still all in tact in this picture.
-
Made a little bit more progress today. Got pretty much all of the hot side plumbing finished up. (with the exception of the wastegates and O2 sensor bungs.)
-
Sure thing, I'll even pull the seat out for ya.
-
I'm just going to drop this little guy right here...
-
Thought so. Well... Slow but surely progress is being made on the turbo kit. Some metal bends that I ordered are coming in today. All I really need after that is an intercooler set up, all my couplers, bigger injectors, a 2 bar map sensor and lots of time to spend with it all.
-
Twins? You wouldn't happen to be referring to these little guys, would ya?

Well... So far I'm in favor of the coupe over the Z. There are certainly pro's and cons to each but I think the pro's of the coupe out weigh the Z. The coupe Handles MUCH MUCH better then my Z did. But that's not saying much because I didn't set up the Z to be a good handling car. I and pretty much adjust any suspension angle that I want on the coupe, its extremely easy to work on because the entire front end comes off the car when you open the hood. 100% of the parts are brand new (minus power train) So when I'm looking for a certain wire its not wrapped in 40 year old tape and covered in dirt. And it was built to be worked on so things come apart pretty easy. To get behind the dash I just quick release the steering wheel off. and remove 8 screws. then the entire dash is off and everything is exposed all in less then 5 min. Rear end options are endless. I can get any kind of gear ratio, axle, limited slip, whatever all within a summit racing order placement away. Tire sizing isn't a problem either. I can pretty much get something as tall as a 28-29 inch and go as wide as 345(as long as I don't mind the tire sticking out a little bit) As for the bodies, I think the tube frame is awesome. Its very rigid and feels pretty solid. but I'm not too much of a fan of the fiberglass. I know there isn't really too many other ways to do it. But You can see while you're driving and hitting bumps, there are sections that flex and bend. Nothing crazy, but its just stuff that I notice. Over all. I like the way the Z car looks better. (I favor the Z car rear end over the coupe rear end) But I still think the coupe looks good too. And I think the performance side of things in the coupe gives you a lot more options. And to get what you're getting in the coupe for around 30,000$ Its a bargain. when I put the Auto in the Z, I wish I could have bolted in a 2.73 gear set to make the car more drivable on the street. Especially on the highway. And unfortunately I couldn't find anyone that sells gears for a Q45 infinity. Its nice to know that i'll be able to find some highway friendly gears for the coupe if it ever came down to an auto swap. Its probably not too likely. OH! btw... My old Datsun is in Japan now and is on speedhunters http://vimeo.com/43682120 1:16 & 2:58 http://www.speedhunters.com/2012/06/motor-head-0-4-1/

Gave up on the L28 huh? I had no idea you were doing an LS1 swap on this thing! That's awesome. Looks like you're wrapping it up too. Congrats!
