  1. thanks for the input guys, I took the flare off to show how low it is (only about 1/4' clearance) thats how much height Im able to get out of these with the perches cranked as high as i can get them with the C wrench and quite a bit of preload on these now as well. So far I was pretty much just test fitting these flares before I cut/weld the arches so i will be able to get a bit more clearance there once i cut them but I just feel that I should be able to get more height out of this setup regardless since theres plenty of people that run this exact sectioned strut setup without flares or cut arches and arent this low. I guess my big question is, would camber plates allow me to get more height adjustment out of these? I know you can get it lower with camber plates (dont want!) but wouldnt it also give me more height adjustment or am I just picturing it wrong in my head?
  2. yeah its a 240Z, struts were sectioned as per the Beta Motorsports/ John C method with shorter MR2/240Z illuminas (BZ3099 + BZ3015) http://dirtys30.blogspot.com/2011/04/how-to-240z-ground-control-coilovers-w.html Seeing as the housings are now sectioned/shortened running longer struts is no longer an option but it shouldnt really be a problem, many people have run this exact setup for years with no problem. It really only shortens the whole assembly by about 2.5 inches so theres no reason I shouldnt be able to get these things higher if everything else is right. I get the feeling its something simple and Im just not seeing the forest through the trees. Also the tires look big in this pic but they are 245/45/16s, the OD is only 24.5" so I shouldn't have to go to a smaller tire. Thanks for the input!
  3. Okay what am I doing wrong here? Im running the sectioned struts with MR2 fronts/240z (fronts) in the rear with the 240Z Ground Control kit and stock hats and even with the springs adjusted as high as I can get them the car is absolutely SLAMMED and the rear arches are sitting right on top of the tire. The more I try to wind the perches up Im just adding more preload and its as tight as I can get them with the hand wrench. Any suggestions how to get more height? camber plates i suppose? I feel like Im just missing something simple/stupid here. Thanks for any input. heres the struts before I installed them for reference, I seriously hope I have they installed the rights struts in there, but I suppose only one size would fit in one housing. here they are adjusted about as high as i can get them even with plenty of preload I was only able to get the perch about 2" up the thread. All the "flush" kids think it looks great but its not moving anywhere like this
  4. Wow, good to know! but yeah I positive these are mild steel just like the stock units. That said, I put them side by side with the stock ones and the BD ones definitely appeared to used the same gauge steel, so take that for what its worth i guess.
  5. Well a magnet does stick to them if that clears it up a bit. Just curious as to why anyone would think black dragon would make these chrome AND stainless steel when you get the exact same results with chrome regular steel? Ive just never heard of of any OE or aftermarket bumpers that were made that way, especially at the price BD is offering these for. Well anyhow, if anyone in the SF bay wants to come check them out just message me. Seeing as my car is up on jackstands for a while then likely going straight to paint it will probably be some time before I actually install them though.
  6. So you're saying you had a set of Black Dragon bumpers for a 240Z that you made fit your 260? How did you get those in 2003?
  7. well they are definitely chrome, its listed as such on the site and printed on the box. So being chrome Im sure they are not also stainless since that would be a bit pointless and expensive.
  8. yeah sorry i posted these and now my car is totally stripped down and getting built/painted and probably wont get these installed till at least summer. if anyone in the SF bay wants to come over and try them on for a couple pics please feel free to message me so we can get a few good pics for everyone!
  9. Yeah its Victoria British, says it right on the box. They're one of the biggest vintage British car aftermarket parts companies, have been around forever. Just found out they're the same company as Black Dragon. Ive seen those ones sold by Harrington before but they were in the 1100-1200 price range, I'll take these for almost half the price!
  10. Sorry for the crappy phone pics but figured you guys would want to see these. $349 each and they look awesome compared to my old front bumper which was already nicer than 90% of the bumpers I see out there, new one is just so much nicer.
  11. honeslty havent put more than a couple miles on it since I installed it but as of now its rock solid. If it gets sloppy after a while I guess I'll use something else but its not my daily so it moight not ever come up for me, how much are the bell ones?
  12. If Im understanding you correctly, if all you are looking for is the slim quick release and are going to use it with the boss hub+Nardi wheel then all you need is the standard quick release, it doesnt have to be car specific since the Boss hub is and the quick release goes between the hub and the wheel, heres the one Im using with my momo http://www.ebay.com/itm/NRG-6-HOLE-STEERING-WHEEL-THIN-SLIM-BLACK-QUICK-RELEASE-HUB-ADAPTER-SRK-400BK-/110936984048?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item19d45c09f0
  13. flocked my MSA full face cap, came out great, sending my glove box door out to match
  14. another old thread bump, but just to be clear since Im running a Z31 turbo diff+axles, we only need one of the V6 axles to replace/rebuild the long side Z31 axle and run that with a 1/2" spacer, then we just switch sides with the short length Z31t axle to the other side of the diff and it works fine correct? Theres only one axle that needs to be rebuilt/replaced with the pathfinder axle not two? thanks again for all the help!
  15. Glad I found this thread! Im the one that picked up this car from Jim. I already had a 72 with a 2.8+5-speed swap that i was shopping around to get an LS1 swap into. Glad I found Jims, we worked out a price that was good for both of us that after I sold my 72, came out to less than I would have spent paying someone to swap a LS into my 72, and this one is an all around much nicer/straighter car than mine was. And let me just say, Jims swap is one of the cleanest, most well sorted LS swap I've seen. and hes done plenty of extra work on this car thats all been better than I would have expected if i would have sent it out to many of the shops I was considering. Anyhow, I have a lot more in store for this car, though Jims done a lot of the heavy lifting. I'll be swapping out the standard length coilover setup for a shortened set that I already have (techno toy) also have the Arizona F+R wilwood brakes here waiting to go on with Modern Motorsports rear adjustable LCAs. then its off to get a 6 - point roll cage and then paint. I'll post some more here as it progresses on my end
  16. Hoping someone here that had CR01s would know, Im about to pull the trigger on these but I already have the 12" wilwood BBK and not going to run any wheels that cant fit over them, they fit over the 11" kit with about 1/2" gap (pic below) so I know it would be close. Also if anyone in the SF bay area has CR01s and doesnt mind pulling off one of your wheels for 5 minutes so I can come over and with the disk/caliper to check if it fits, I'd also bring ya a case of beer!
  17. bump for this! Does anyone know if a SR20 5 speed will work the same as the KA? My trans is shot and looks like i can pick up an S14 5-speed for cheap right now, thanks!
  18. thanks! Sorry newb Also, I see they only list 260z and 280z kits, anyone know any major difference that would make these not able to work in my 240?
  19. Bump for this! looks like this MSA kit is pretty good all around but I cant find it for sale anywhere? When I google "MSA carpet kit" all I get a links to this thread and others like it but no company called MSA, what am I missing??
