  1. HI Brad D and all, Brad, the engine mounts looks very nice and the welds are top notch too. Just have a question, what kind of steel are you using to join the 2 laser cut plates? Looks like RHS to me? Take care, Cuong Nguyen
  2. Hi All, here are a couple of progress pics of my RB26DETT 240Z http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=6479 http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=6480 Using Subaru power steering rack with R32 GTS-T oil pump and custom made oil lines. Very nice for thos heavy 17x8.5" wheels on the car! Cuong Nguyen
  3. Brad, well done, car looks really good. Congratulations. Cuong Nguyen
  4. Hi All, good to see you are starting another RB Zed project Daniel. Let us know how you get on. Sorry to all, but I have no intention to go ahead and produce the engine mounts or any other parts needed for an RB conversion. I was going to. Had a spare RB26DETT block with a two holes in the sides from a conrod and was going to use that to jig up some sump. However due to lack of time etc I will NO LONGER go ahead and produce these. (I barely have time to look at my own RB26DETT 240Z! ) I think Brad D and skyline240z make engine mounts for sale. Brad D may also be selling sumps??? Cuong Nguyen
  5. Thanks guys, I will forward him the link to the replies and will see if he can give any extra info. Also will post the problem when he finds out. Cuong Nguyen
  6. HI All, a guy that I know has just finished an RB26DETT S14 engine conversion. He is worried about some bad engine noises and would like to know what it may be. I am no mechanic but my guess is the main bearings??? It takes 3 to 5 min to download on a 56k dialup. http://24.163.137.145/engine.wmv Thanks, Cuong
  7. Hi All, that car is very well know in Australia. It is owned by Mario and the car is known as "GTR700" It is one of the few VERY wild GTRs that are down under. Note the transmission??? It is a sequential one (ie not H pattern) as you can see in the video.
  8. Hi All, first off, hats off to Rick and Brad for making mounts available. I started to make them too, but all the fu#king around and bullc#ap that people were emailing me with, it was not worth the effort or time. Rick, your mounts will NOT break with a high HP RB26DETT. People should see the factory aluminium ones. Mine are modified factory aluminium ones and they are working fine even with a bigger ball-bearing Garrett turbo. I personally feel that there are too many dreamers and it is all to easy for people to judge others work/cars. Unless you have a better built RB26DETT zed then there is no room for negative comments! Cuong Nguyen
  9. Hi All, well if general sercive parts is your worry then you can just stock up! There are places in the US that DO sell GTR parts, Motorworx is one of the ones that come to mind. Not sure of any others, but I know there are shops that support the strong import scene that the US has. Otherwise buy the in from OS. In Australia an oil filter for the RB26DETT is AUD$4, so it is US$2. Postage wouldnt be much as it is compact and light. Don't tell me you cant get spark plugs to suit a RB26DETT in the US...
  10. Hi All, Long time since I’ve had the chance to post! Here are a few new links to pictures of my RB26DETT 240Z. Unfortunately I am unable to work on it at the moment since it is winter and it is raining most days + I’ve just bought myself a R32 GTR, so money is a bit tight! How are the projects coming along? Brad, Stony, Bob etc??? http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=3386&password=&sort=1&thecat=500 http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=5226&password=&sort=1&thecat=500 http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=5234&password=&sort=1&thecat=500 http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=5232&password=&sort=1&thecat=500 http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=5230&password=&sort=1&thecat=500 http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=5228&password=&sort=1&thecat=500 http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=5224&password=&sort=1&thecat=500 Here is my newest toy, my R32 GTR: http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=5327&password=&sort=1&thecat=500 Take care, Cuong Nguyen
  11. Hi All, there is a guy in OZ that is doing the same conversion in his widebody 240Z. He posts under the name "nixcars" at http://www.240z.org Take care, Cuong Nguyen[/img]
  12. Hi All, Here are a couple of new pictures of my RB26DETT 240Z. http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=3387&papass=&sort=1&thecat=500 http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=3386&papass=&sort=1&thecat=500 http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=3385&papass=&sort=1&thecat=500 http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=3384&papass=&sort=1&thecat=500 http://www.classiczcars.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=3381&papass=&sort=1&thecat=500 Sorry but haven’t had much time for posts as I’ve only recently come back from O/S (Tokyo Auto Salon) and working mega long hours/days (have to pay of my RB conversion and holiday somehow!) New pics and info coming soon… Cuong Nguyen PS congrats to all other RB swappers, sounds like some of you guys are right on your way…
  13. Hi all, Stony is right #6 runs hot, BLKMGK is also right that you can trim the injectors to run it richer in that cylinder to help avoid detonation, BUT, what guys that race RB26DETT engines do here (and I assume elsewere also) is to modify the water pump itself for more flow!!!
  14. Hi all, I have made this offer in the past, but it kinda died in the arse because of lots of fake interest etc Anyway, it is now official, I'am making parts available for all the zed car owners (only 240z, 260z and 280z, not zx, although the sump may work for those cars as well, can't guarantee this as I'm working on the other models only) that want to convert to RB engines. I am getting a RB26DETT block given to me next week so that I can commence on the work. 1st I am making modified oil sumps, then engine mounts and gearbox mounts will follow. The oil sump will be ready to bolt on (modified around the oil pick up area for an RB26DETT), unlike the one that can be bought for a RB20DEt Z31!!! and I will provide a new oil sump gasket as well if needed. drop me a line at nguyenxcuong@hotmail.com to express your interest and make arrangements for your order. Cuong Nguyen
  15. Hi all, ok, so this is exactly why we need moderators etc. (to remove or relocate posts) Please keep the replies true to the original post, hint hint ZEROYON - Z !!! Keep the personal messages just that ie PMs, or start a new topic specific thread. No finger pointing at anyone, but it will save people having to read through lots of unrelated posts to the original thread!!! Ok, so I should have put this elsewhere. I have gone back to try and delete/relocate the post, but it can't be done, only edit. Others being a smart arse about it doesn't help as well...was just trying to make the forum better to use for all!!!
  16. Hi all, since the thread started by Stony (So you want to do an RB swap...)is getting way crowded, lets for once and for all, see who is doing an RB swap in their zeds. Please DO NOT add your details unless you are ACTUALLY doing the swap (have engine ordered and on the way etc) or HAVE DONE the swap!!! Ok I'll start: HybridZ name: RB26DETT Name: Cuong Nguyen Location: Perth, Western Australia Car & colour: Audi Imola Yellow 1973 240Z Engine: RB26DETT Links to pictures: http://www.240z.org/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=1871 http://www.240z.org/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=1872 http://www.240z.org/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=1873 http://www.240z.org/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=1874 http://www.240z.org/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=1875 http://www.240z.org/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=1876 http://www.240z.org/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=1877 http://www.240z.org/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=1878 http://www.240z.org/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=1866 http://www.240z.org/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=1865 Others that I know are (off the top of my head..) Stony aka RB26Z Bob aka Bob H Zpeed
  17. Hi all, To all budding RB26DETT converters: like Stony said, the oil sump still needs to be modified to clear the oil pick up if you are intending to bolt up a RWD sump to an RB26DETT.
  18. Hi Simon and all, Simon>> "LPG preforms better if tuned right" What are you comparing this too??? Better than when it wasn’t tuned right??? LPG has its place and that is in the boot of taxi cars. The VG30DETT are a dog of an engine, especially in the Z32 engine bay (overheating etc.)!!! They are known to be the WORST of the Nissan range of engines by those in the high performance business. If you are going to go all out with them, ie cams, large turbos etc. It is VERY expensive to modify an VG30DETT compared to say an RB26DETT (double the cams to buy etc) Unless people have concrete evidence that certain set ups are "better" that another, please keep the hearsay to a minimum (ie cut the bulls*it!!!)
  19. Hi all, i think that all RB engines would need the sumps modified to clear the steering rack. tell me if i'm wrong Stony, ie the RB25DET that you put in your car before the RB26DETT didn't need the sump modified.
  20. Hi all, BLKMGK -- when you were talking about 2JZ engines you said: "Heh, and I'll admit it seems weird putting a 4banger in a Z but hey, it makes POWER so who cares!" Are you saying the 2JZ is a 4 cylinder engine???? Because it's certainly not, it's a 6 cylinder!!!!
  21. Hi all, Zachb55 -- plug and play means that the ecu is designed for a specific car and will plug upto where the factory ecu used to. this eliminates the need for labour intensive wiring, changing sensors etc. a plug and play will not work for your zed unless you swap the whole wiring harness from a skyline into your car! (or the harness of whichever motor you are using) for a zed, plug and play is of no benefit (actually its more work) but if you have a late model car and the plug and play unit is available for that model of car, than it is well worth it for the ease of fitting. also note that the plug and play DOES have the FULL functions that a "normal" (ie one that you need to run the wiring harness)unit would. the harness provided with the computer is only to run the engine side of the car and some extra auxilaries such as thermo fans etc. it DOES NOT replace the wiring harness of your taillights and whatever else. usually the computer controls things like ignition and fuel etc. using references such as throttle position, air temperature, water temperature, boost pressure, crank angle etc. Bob H -- I wouldn't use Haltech as the computers have high reliability issues. a good friend/mechanic/dyno operator is an autorised dealer for Wolf/Autronic/Haltech/Hawk and he refuses to sell the Haltech to customers since he has sent numerous new computers back (E6K) to the manufacturer. until they sort out their quality control i advise you stay clear of their units (one less trouble that you need when building a car!) also you shouldn't be so concerned about finding a map that already exists for an RB26DETT, you should look for a good dyno shop and see what they have experience with and recommend that you use. i wouldn't use a fuel map from another car, as your mods will be different from others!!!
  22. Hi all, there is lots written about the Power FC in Australian magazines such as Zoom and High Performance Imports. What people forget is that the author of those articles is also an agent/distributor for those units as well (so think about that) From what I have witnessed, lots of guys with Power FC units (mostly had them when cars were imported from Japan) spend big bucks on dyno tuning time (and that is not cheap at AUD$100 per hour or so) because the tuner does not have a laptop software package and has to continuously switch between different screens!!! At the end of the day most of those that I've seen take them out (Power FC) and put in Autronic and Motec computers! If you are going to do it, then spend the money and do it properly, you are talking about the heart of your engine basically!!! Skimp on that and you will not get all of the performance that you should and the engine will suffer also. Anyway, Power FC units aren't that cheap. Also the things about the RB coil packs being good for only 8psi??? Well that is Bullsh#t, Nissan coil packs are good for much more than that, by the time the coils aren't any good, you would have needed forged pistons and internal work already!!! Look at Stony's car, 15psi and his coils are ok aren't they??? Then if you find the coils aren't up to it, add a CDI unit such as MSD brand etc. There is lots of bad advice out there, don't get sucked into it!!!!
  23. Hi all, here are some links to the RB26DETT Autech Stagea Wagon: http://www7.ocn.ne.jp/~vavy/stagea/260RS.htm http://www5b.biglobe.ne.jp/~kinop/kinofiles/stagea/stagea.html http://www.prospec-ms.co.uk/models/others.html http://www.apexjapan.com/j_sportcar/nis_stagea98.html http://www.geocities.co.jp/MotorCity/4641/tunetotal.html
  24. Hi all, the RB26DETT also came out in the Nissan Stagea 260 RS Autech Version, which is a 4WD wagon with the same engine as a Nissan GTR Slyline. This is somewhat rarer than GTRs and more expensive as well!
  25. Hi all, first up, congratulations to Stony for a top RBZ conversion, your car is mega crazzzy!!! Zachb55>> Most drag cars run better times when they use an auto box, mainly because it eliminates driver error when shifting gears and the reduces reaction times between gear changes. With an auto box you need to have all the gearing right and the right converter as well to get good results though. Personally I'm sticking with a 5 speed as I'm not keen on drag racing. Ben Bob>> The GTR 4WD system is operated by what is called the ATTESA computer. The GTR is not always 4WD, it’s mostly RWD and then it transfers power to the front when the ATTESA computer detects slip. There are "interceptors" on the market such as the HKS ATTESA Torque Split Controller which allows the driver to have some level of adjustment in the amount of power that goes to the front wheels. In order to get the GTR 4WD working in a zed is very complicated as all the sensors are needed as well as the ATTESA computer. When the GTR guys go to a stand alone type computer, they still need to leave the ATTESA computer in and only take over the fuel and ignition controls, to keep the 4WD working!!! Good luck to all that are currently doing an RBZ conversion!!!
