S130 Suspension Tech
plexus replied to Smokescreen's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension, and Chassis
here here ^^, i get what the author states on regards to the toe in/out and camber, dont get the math but do have a grasp of what they are saying. my question is this, how pratical is it? by no means is a e30 suspension a bolt on with a few bangs of a good BFH. wouldnt it be more pratical to fab the e30 suspension in to the zx's bolt postion, but if your going to do this why not utilize a s13, i.e. get some steele and match the deminsions of the e30 to the zx bolt locations. sorta like this guy i saw on here (cant recall his screen name) i think, who shoved (alott of cutting and welding) a c5 vette rearend under his z. doing the front will require alot more finesse but if your going through the trouble of the rear, why not take the front end down as well. when and only when (complete tear down and rebuild) i feel it is time to take this on i plan on getting some thick adjustible four link bars cut, mock and burn them in and make (just need to remember the geometry of the stock parts) my own kit unless arizona z makes one for the zx, i like the one for the z. for now a set of ultra cool coil overs will do. -
another zx v8 swapper here, guys zx (lt80 sumthing sorry guy forgot you screen name) is a very clean v8. im going with the jtr mounts and headers they reccomend (i think they use hooker. i am almost certain any block hugger header is fine), custom headers can also work but bring your wallet. also investing in a performace custom built drive shaft that has rebuildable u-joints. my project is still in the parts phase for the v8. i am currently doing chassis, brake, and suspension upgrades before shoe horning a v8 in (chasing a 91 octane 400hp dream in a car that wieghs nothing......the wifes got the life insurance papers out again...lol).

im glad you brought this up, i was wondering about thier exhaust system good piece of info about fitment. i wonder if the issue is with a stock cat, would a aftermarket cat work better. i plan to change out the complete exhaust system and dont want the more restrictive stock cat. regarding using bolt over studs and vice versa is there a big difference or more of a personal opinion?

nice pic, but i dont like the hood ordament nor the bulky side mirrors. for some reason i get the feel of photoshopped but then again it might be me.

augghhh the old smog issue... nice.... i have a zx 82 to be exact i know you asked s30 guys but i did some checking (when i got her and decided to go v8) and spoke with the dmv. per the rep if you swap to a different engine, that engine must provide the same smog requirements to pass if it was in said car it came out of. meaning if you swap in a lt1 out of a camero/ vette/ impala that motor must meet the same smog standards in the z/zx as if it where in the above mentioned vehicles. the smog tech is supposed to provide you with a new under-the-hood sticker pertaining to the smog codes for that motor (for future smoging), i beleave. there are various ways to walk around the law, as for me, im going to get a motor out of a smog exempt car like a 70's camero/firebird and slap on some modern componets ....heh heheee! that'll fix arnold blasted bs he laid down on the car guys! please correct me if i am wrong, ca dmv employees are idiots... i take that back they can be idiots! ps this does not include state referree. they may see things differently

i also have thought of doing such to my zx. i do not think you will be able to craft this with out the bucket lens covers. also you would need to build a custom rig to hold a light bucket at the right angle needed for proper alignment before mounting to the car (face it alot of testing will be needed before actual mount testing). since i too thought of the mini as a good option, i came to the conclusion that you would need to basicaly gut the mini's head light housing and modify it to the z/zx bucket, using the z/zx bucket lens cover as the new lens not to forget the molding for weather and seal it up to be water tight. the bucket will then just be the light assembly like a modern car instead of the oem styling of yester year. although it sound fairly easy it will be like pulling teeth, i am holding off on this mod till i get my zx where i want it performace wise inside and out before i start it. i have bigger fish to fry first .....

Sweet! and there is the start. i thought that the accord would fit but wasnt for sure (cousin has a acura integra and was inspecting his spare dummy tire) didnt have my zx with me (otherwise i would have ripped my wheel off and check it against mine) at the time, just my truck.

as i start apon my quest for rims i would like to know if there is a list of aftermarket rim manufacturers that is known to work with the s30/s130 z/zx cars on the site, i have searched but didnt find any real usefull information in regards to it. the only thing i have found is the stuff on vendor sites like MSA. i understand grumpyvette posted a great thread on the tech side of rims like back spacing information and how to figure out what will work with your set up. however that is not what i am asking, i know what size i want and what offset i want to use. my problem is some rim companies dont list the z cars as possible vehicles that there rim will fit on. also if you know what other type of 4 lug vehicle has the same bolt pattern as the z/zx cars (example lexani LT-704 fits BMW,BENZ, BENTLY not listed but will also fit a chevy 5 lug bolt pattern as well) that would be great and dont kill me on the example it was just that an example...lol. maybe a great list to have instead of countless mind numbing hrs searching for rims for these cars! beleave me if i new what other car maker shared the same bolt pattern as the z/zx it would save a great headache
