Yeah, I put the altenator on. I hooked it up exactly how the old one was, it's a 74 but the engine is a L28. I think all the carberation parts came off of the L26 that used to be in it, not to sure though. I don't know where all the connectors came from, maybe from the previous owner eliminating the AC and stuff. That's why I'm asking here.

My 260 came with the same kind of spoiler. I prefer going wingless but I don't want to deal with all the holes in the body from removing it so I'm keeping it on there until I have the tools and time to do all the bodywork at once.

Vent knob and floor problems
AkumaNoZeta replied to AkumaNoZeta's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
I was just curious about the knobs and cable. That gap kinda worried me because it looks to me to take away the structial integrety of the car making it easier to twist. -
Ok, there's a knob under the dash on both the driver and passenger side of the car and I pull on push on them and I have no idea what they're doing. I think the driver side one is in conjunction of this cable that hangs under my car but I can't see where it leads too. I got pictures. The previous owner told me he had the floorboards replaced and when I looked at the job I saw a giant gap between the floor and sub-frame, what is up with that? How hard is that to fix? Also pic of that too.

Before my car ran fine but the battery never stayed charged because the altenator was bad. Now the altenator is replaced and it doesn't even start now. I took pictures of some wires that were disconnected when I got the car and I couldn't find where they go. Can some of you look at them and see if you know anything about them? Also check the wires on the back of the altenator to make sure I have them right.

There's no telling if that's the only problem though. The little bit I did drive it the tach wasn't working and the main reason I stopped driving it was that when I was on the highway the oil pressure guage read 0 so I pulled over to check the oil level and it was still full so I think maybe it's just the wiring to the guage, hopefully. The fuel guage doesn't work either and when putting the car on the flatbed trailer, when it was on the incline fuel was pouring out of the top of the gas tank, there's a whole on the top of it. The car has been sitting for years before I bought it so there's no telling what else will go wrong later on.

I've been wanting nothing else but another Nissan engine in my 260Z but the L28 that's in it needs a new altenator but I'm thinking since my reliable daily driver right now is a rusted out 90' 5.0 Mustang that I should maybe just rip apart my S30 and prep it for the 302. I figure by the time I have all the peices ripped out of the Z I would probably have the money to buy the things I need to put the 5.0 in it. The Stang has a 5-lug conversion kit from Latemodel Restoration that came with replica Cobra R rims which are 9" wide (don't know backspacing, yet) but I was wondering if I get the rear disk conversion with 5-lug adapter from Arizona Z car that the Cobra rim would fit in the Datsun because I don't think the stock sized tires would be too good for handling the 304 ft-lbs of torque. I figure I could have the 302 in there to make a GREAT daily driver out of my Z while I look for a mint Mustang coupe shell or a SR20, whichever comes first, and also give me a little engine swap experience. I'm just ranting right now because I had the cars parked next to each other with the hoods up and it got me excited for the idea and I like seeing others input with it. Also, I think the front subframe of my Z is F'ed up, I'll take pics of it later and post it in a different sub-forum to see others opinions on that. Thanks for following through my rambling.

I may be doing the SR20 swap fairly soon because I keep on having problems with my L28 so...I want to know what places are the most reliable to deal with and have good prices. Pretty much the ONLY place I know is Tiger Japanese

Sounds like a good and fun trick. When I get my car next week I'll be looking for a good parking lot.

I have watched Drift Bible. I borrowed it from a friend a while ago and recently found it on youtube, the whole 71 minutes of it and surprisingly good qaulity. I also own the book Drifting:The Art of Oversteer. I'm not one to just jump in a try to take the car to the limits first try. I work myself in it slowly, mainly because I consider myself a bad driver in order to force myself to get better. I wasn't even going to try to start drifting in the 260Z until I "become one with it" first....so to speak. I haven't gotten to drive it yet because it's back home and I'm currently 1000miles away from home and can't pick it up for another 1.5 weeks. I want to get a feel for the car, get an idea on how it will react, before I push it at all. I like being safe rather than sorry.

LOL, shows what you know. The Wal Mart in my town don't have curbs. I feel stupid. I had to read that like 5 times to get it. lol

What can be done to increase the steering angle? I want to completely redo the whole front and rear suspension anyways, not to be more competitive or anything. Mainly because I love to modify my cars.
-
I'm not worried about doing it competitively. I just wanna do it because in my opinion it's the funnest thing ever. Kinda like playing baseball just for the sport of it and not caring if you win or lose.
-
Well...I've thought about the L28ET but I just fell in love with DOHC engines and I really like how the SR20DET looks in the S30 egine bay. I guess I'm one of those that like to mix old school with new school, putting newer engines in classic cars.
-
Suspension and brakes, I know. I have plans for those too. I don't really have any questions for suspension or brakes, I just had a article of wieght distribution change my mind on what engine I want and wanted other's input to help me decide.

I am aware of how parts will have to be replaced/rebuilt frequently, that's why I have a second car to drive around while the Z will be getting repaired, I don't have the money to repair it instantly but I have the patience to save up the money over a period of time.

I was going to try to find the R200 from a Q45 at a junkyard and swap that in with the parts from Arizona Z. That should be strong enough. I'm going to stiffen the chassis and and a roll cage to it when I bring it to my Chassis Fabrication class. Would the SR be better than the KA from a wieght distribution standpoint? Wouldn't having the heavier iron block behind the front wheels help compensate for the extra wieght of the intercooler and piping that would be in front of the front wheels? I'm asking because I don't know for sure and just thinking out loud.

I never was interested in drifting until I got my first RWD car (1990 Mustang LX 5.0) and took it sideways. I've always lusted after the S30 and when I finally got one that's what I wanted to do with it. It's not that I have the budget to get the RB swap done immediately. I was going to sell the Mustang to buy the engine and then probably spend a few years fabbing everything up to fit it in. I only wanted the RB for the infamous name and horsepower, but I figure since I want to drift it I won't need that much horsepower and if it can handle better with the SR or KA then I would much rather do that. Plus, here's a video that has a 240Z drifting http://videos.streetfire.net/video/Amazing-drift-action-in_73220.htm

Hey everybody. I have a later 260Z that I plan on making into a drift car. I want to put a RB26DETT into it but I read some articles on wieght distribution here that made me think that an SR20DET swap or a turboed KA24DE swap would be better because it keeps more wieght between the front and rear axles (or whatever that term was) for better handling. Would that be the same for a drift car where you want maximum traction at the front tires as possible? What do the people here think would be the best engine for drifting from those three?

I was looking at this Cam kit http://arizonazcar.com/cams.html and it has one with .624" lift with 318* duration. That's a pretty big cam. Does anybody have experience with it or know of a video because I would love to hear how that sounds.

Show your Z car sketches/drawings/ideas/off-the-wall stuff
AkumaNoZeta replied to OlderThanMe's topic in Body Kits & Paint
Here's mine. It's how I was thinking of making mine to look in the future, I still question the fender flares though. -
I got a question about the kit. Are they complete fenders and quarter panels or just flares molded onto the car's body?
-
Another thought I had a while back ago for creating front end downforce was to put tiny wings as the grill. What I was thinking there is that wings create downforce so put multiple wings up front in front of the radiator, you can add and take away wings as need. I just would like some input on that idea as well.

I don't know if this has been asked yet, I didn't see anything about it, but what about blocking off the bottom instead of the top? Is there a reason why I haven't seen that here yet? What I'm thinking is that it might be easier to build a channel to divert the air over the entire radiator from the smaller opening and also since the air is coming from higher up that it would be slightly cooler helping the radiator in that aspect. I want to say it would help the front splitter get more air over the top but in my head I see the air traveling up, then hitting the bumper, and just going across the sides instead.
