  1. About this 'rubbing it out' business... would that possibly fix the funny feeling I get in my pants everytime I picture my car being finished?
  2. Yeah, I've been drooling over that spoiler on Ebay too ! Very good price on a big CF part like that. Only shows $87 for the shipping to Oceanside. UPS would treat that as oversize, so I don't think it's an unfair shipping charge. Shipping large items, even if they are light, sucks these days because of 'dimensional weight' i.e. they charge like it's a heavy item just because of the size. If they pack it safely, the box will be huge.
  3. Fyi, I did end up cutting out a small section where I had some pitting. Grinding down the pitted parts looked okay, but I was able to punch thru it pretty easily when I was done with a center punch. Funny, the piece I cut out was 'whole' but it felt and bent like a piece of thin aluminum ! Was porous and thin after the grinding. As I said before, will post some pics when done. I'm not as fast or motivated as some others here.
  4. Now that's taking the bull by the horns ! People here on Hybridz never cease to amaze me with their ingenuity and resourcefullness.

    This is gonna take awhile...

My 1972 240Z project, like watching grass grow but not as exciting.
  6. [Nevermind] I see it was posted back in 2006 on page 2 of this thread and apparently it hasn't been updated in awhile. http://imcdb.org/vehicles.php?make=Datsun&model=240Z&modelMatch=1&modelInclModel=on
  7. After looking at this a little closer, that firewall transition is a bit too pitted for me to leave alone. Gonna work it down with a grinder and see how it looks. May have to cut & patch - more pics later. My signature really says it all !
  8. Finally got around to removing the tar mat / sound-deadening material on the floorboards of my '72 240Z (I'm in a slow 'as I get around to it' strip down phase ) Just fyi, I was seriously discouraged by a '65 Mustang fastback project years ago that just was one layer of rust after another (but that car was from New York). But with my 240Z (Cali car from day one), I was pleasantly surprised... Yeah, looks worse in the pic than it really was, see next -> and just after hitting the driver side a few seconds with the wire wheel...
  9. ...yeah strange question, long story that probably would just irritate people. But does anyone have a front bumper from like a 71-73 (without overrider bar or brackets attached) that they could weigh and post the figure here? Thanks in advance.
  10. What's the setup on the tig rig? Manual pulsed or machine auto, heat ,etc? And do you guys have it so good that you just keep an RB block around for such occasions!
  11. Nice work, but isn't it gonna be hard to get to those pan bolts above that sump on the driver side? Looks too shallow for a socket, and the lip of the pan will interfere with a wrench. Yeah, obviously Rob got it off there, and it will work, but maybe a little more space there would be better ? And dang... wish I could TIG like that!
  12. I've seen the tail lights for those go for a few bucks on EBay, at least $50. And someone will always [inevitably] need a fender, hood, or door, provided you have a place to store them for awhile.
  13. So, I bought a few things from a seller on Ebay. The seller id is 'reddat' (sells a lot of Datsun stuff). Anyone here that buys stuff off Ebay has seen this seller's inventory. So anyway, bought one item (Buy it Now) and was looking to buy another that was a regular auction expiring in another day. Okay, he contacts me like the next day after I won bought the 1st item bugging me about when I was going to pay! Fair enough I guess, but jeez louise. I promptly wrote him back letting him know my intent, but asked that he combine shipping, to which he agreed. I bought another item as promised and paid IMMEDIATELY for both items together, but shipping was still $9 for 'First Class' (these two small items will fit in a padded envelope). Anyway, two weeks go by, no package. I send an email asking about it, and here's the email traffic (start from bottom and read up). So I put this here to get opinions.... is this guy being a douche or am I being impatient? Note it is been over 3 weeks since I paid him. --- On Thu, 3/19/09, *******@comcast.net <*******@comcast.net> wrote: From: *******@comcast.net <*******@comcast.net> Subject: Re: shipment on ebay items To: <benjamminz99@yahoo.com> Date: Thursday, March 19, 2009, 5:44 PM i shipped the box day after you paid sent it first class postal service i will let you know if it gets returned to me ----- Original Message ----- From:<benjamminz99@yahoo.com> To: *******@comcast.net Sent: Thursday, March 19, 2009 7:39:45 PM GMT -06:00 US/Canada Central Subject: Re: shipment on ebay items Hi, I still haven't received my parts. 14. I thought I was doing a pretty good job of checking the classifieds, but this ad sat out here for a week and I somehow missed it. Let me clarify....a bonified rb20 rear sump, modified with racing sump for $300 (WITH PICKUP!) sat here on this site for a week and we were over here pulling on our puds the whole time. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=145525
  15. Ran into the same problem when I finally went to order the pan and pickup last month... NLA crap! Had two bad leads on pans too. One guy from another site said he had one and needed a front pan for his S13 swap and simply wanted to trade... but this ended up nowhere. Another guy from this site sent me his and it turned out to be a front pan (now I have two pans I can't use!). He was cool and refunded the dough, so no harm no foul. Been checking every Nismo / S13 / drift site possible. Even had my wife (who is from Japan - convenient in times like these ) search a bunch of JDM .jp sites and call a few places in her hometown.... still getting 'not available' only in native Japanese! Now I'm really kicking myself about why didn't I buy the pan and pickup last year...grrr I also talked to Mac too over at MckinnyMotorsports. Sounds like he's going for a better custom design to satisfy our needs. The stock 200zr pan apparently hung down kind of too low anyway and they are working on a pan design to be a little shallower, wider and hold more oil (and baffled of course). Don't expect it to be $160 though!
  16. Okay, if that's LeMans Sunset it looks very orange outside. I did some searches and under artificial light it looks very golden like the 240Z thread starter, but all the outside photos, again, looked bronzy/orange. And yes, one link like this one below showed the same car under inside lights and outdoors. Dissimilar to 'Sunset (Sunburst ?) Orange' http://www.350z-tech.com/zwiki/Lemans_Sunset_(Color) (error: for some reason, it won't make that last parenthesis part of the link, just add it to the URL after it tells you the page isn't there)
  17. Since this is thread related and will bump it, I hope this is not considered a threadjack, especially considering the overwhelming response to 24oz'rs request Anyhoo... is that repro in the picture like what you will get from Thailand on Ebay? To be more specific, there is one seller, 'gira7777' who puts up a set once in awhile (has one set for sale presently as a matter of fact). Not so often to appear he has a continuous inventory, as one would expect with repros, and they are used. I ask because his photos don't show this angle and it's hard to tell, so looking for anyone with an opinion or preferably experience with this seller or repros in general (?)
  18. I bought the antenna from him right after he posted and it took many emails to get him to send it. Finally it did arrive, and it was in good condition. He seemed to have a lot of excuses before he sent it though. But I had my eye on that 45 day dispute window with PayPal the whole time though. Not sure what that's all about. You would think either he'd screw everyone or none at all, not randomly. Or he's seeing how many people will let the 45 day window expire so he can keep the money? Plus, you never know what's going on with people in their own lives. I had one seller screwing with me on Ebay. He had 100% positive feedback on thousands of transactions and I couldn't figure out why he picked me to f*ck with. Turns out he was going thru a divorce at that time and was apparently letting his business slide as a result because she had him all bass-ackwards. He finally sent the product - for free - refunded my money (but only after I filed the PayPal dispute).
  19. Damn! It was a cherry ride -before- the paintjob ! ...kind of like having a girlfriend with big titties who went in for an even bigger tit job (my apologies to anyone with small titties in pink lace bras)
  20. At least you know your car attracts attention It's like almost famous ! (I'm striving for notorious )
  21. That was quick Shoving turbo RB motors into Z's takes a lot of motivation and/or funds. I know, I'm doing the same thing and battle (with the aforementioned motivation and funds) all the time. You seem to have started off strong though, seems a shame to give it up.
  22. Awfully brave with that great paintjob... putting the engine in without any fender covers or even something to cover the radiator support! No guts no glory, right?
