ok so took another look at it, and i am getting 12v at coil, i feel real intelligent. thanks z-ya for that. so know i guess it must be fuel, so im checking all that, im just turning mototr by hand to hear for clicking from injectors. and just start from there i guess. thanks again ill post back with any other questions. peter

I am looking for some help on the wiring of the conversion, ive read through all the post and checked everything, no fire. its a 83 zxt engine in a 70 240. i think the main problem on my hands that im trying to fix is im not getting 12v across +,- of coil, i only get 2.5 or something around there. the y/w wire on ignitor is going to the plug near ecu, and b/w wire to +12v. if anyone could help me out i would greatly appreciate it. thanks in advance
-
it is wired per the your writeup in the sticky post. that y/w going to y/w on ecu pin. maybe i connected it to wrong y/w i know there was two, but im pretty sure i tried both with no different effects.

i actually have it wired directly to battery right now, to see if i could get it working. Are you just supposed to get 12v from the + and - off that this right on side of coil. because off of that i get 12v. just trying to figure this out. thanks
-
Ok.. i think i got most everything figured out, except the coil. I checked the voltage across the + - and i get something like 2.4v, but when i take off the wires and measure across them i get 12v. is there a reason for this, is this correct, i still doesnt want to spark or do anything except trying to start. if someone could please help me figure this out i would be greatly appreciated.

thanks for the help, i will see what i can find at a wreking yard as far as fuel pump goes. i do have that green relay, just need to re-wire it up. thanks for the help, it really helps being able to ask someone if something is right rather than break stuff .... thanks

i am using the zxt coil with transitor, and i believe i have it all hooked up correctly, the yellow/white on (-) and black/white on postive, then blue on - of coil, and black on + of coil. And about the fuel pump, it is just a regular pump for carbed car, where should i go to pick up a pump. will that walpro that is like 70 bucks on holley website work or do i need to change return lines, if it wont work with stock lines i need to find a stock pump. Any one have one for sale!?!? thanks, peter

hey all, ive been trying to figure out my problem on my l28 turbo into 240, i havent been able to get it started yet. first question i have is when the ecu is powered on, i measured voltage across + - terminals of coil, i get like 3.4 volts or something whcih doesnt seem right, i havent been able to see cranking voltage because im by self. other problem is i dont hear my injectors clicking and dont smell any fuel from engine turning over. i do not have the turbo fuel pump just the one i was using on l24, was hoping to get it at least started with that then upgrade when it was ready to drive, will the injectors fire with such little pressure. oh and do i need the green relay that says e.g.i that is right next to plug 3. on zhome.com it said if it was cut just run b/w wire to power ignition!? thanks for any help, im kinda stuck at this point, im getting very anxious to hear the motor run...!!! peter

well, i just got it all bolted in and everything, the biggest problem with all that is the turbo i picked up, just a lot of tinkering rotating etc.. to get everything good, it is going to be a pain plumbing the turbo output but im sure i can get some crazy 90deg bends at home depot. gonna hook up the harness tomorow morning, hopefully with most hooked up i can figure rest out. thanks again for the help

hey, ive been reading everywhere and have looked at all the wiring schematics and then i go and look at my harness laid out in the garage, and i get confused. I took a couple pictures of the harness and im just wondering if someone could maybe point me in direction of which plugs are 1,2,3 as listed in sticky post about swap, and maybe help me out about what all i need off the harness. are these the plugs i need only a couple wires off of? http://f2.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/petershepardtx/detail?.dir=/b397&.dnm=881c.jpg this is the harness those plugs are a part of. http://f2.pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/petershepardtx/detail?.dir=/b397&.dnm=7aeb.jpg&.src=ph any help would be great, im hoping to have most of the wireing done by tonight, maybe even a well deserved test drive. thanks

hey guys, quick question. Last night i was attempting to replace a bad ujoint on passenger side halfshaft, the one thats right next to wheel. we took the whole half shaft off and had zero lucky finding a way to get ujoint out, do i need to take it to a shop to get it pressed out or is there something i do not know. i think they are original u-joints, the replacement one i purchased from orielly auto. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks peter

this question is very out there but i have been wanting to make my 240z a little faster to help me deal with the fact that it will take couple more years for my v8 swap. I am curious on what i would all i would need to find to install a turbo on my z, and is it possible under say $1000, which is way more than id like but just to get some ideas. And if what parts i could snag from junkyards/online etc. i dont want a crazy setup just something even if it was a stock setup. any help would be great, thanks peter its a 1970 240 with 5 speed

just wanted to thank yall, i borrowed a friends mity vac and every thing works again.. i will try and see where it may have been leaking but now i can finally pull it out of my rents garage. thanks again!

wheelman - yes all the forward gears are acting the same.. but mainly it happens from a stop.. but i did try first and second, but no grinding just hard as hell to get in gear, requires massive brute strength. But the reverse gear does grind, can not get it into reverse gear! This is my first time messing around with manual transmissions so im not a expert at all, it appears pretty simple to replace both. how much does that usually cost and were is the best place to look. thanks for all the help

i got uder the dash and looked.. i looks like there is a little fluid on that rod but it doesnt look like it leaked all of it there... there is also no sign of leaking on firewall in engine bay...it appears that the fluid isnt leaking much anymore... it could be just a really slow leak i never really checked the fluid in there because i hardly drive it... could all this be from the air, and all i need to do is bleed them. im prolly going to go pick up one of those mighty vacs and see what that does. do i just do the slave or is there a bleed nipple on master to?
-
should i look in any other places to see were im loosing the fluid.. and i what could be causeing speedo to be leaking at tranny.... is there a seal or something that needs to be replaced... ill try tighting it down.. but any other pointers. thanks

Alright quick question for yall... yesterday i was driving home and i noticed it was getting harder and harder to shift into gears... especially at slow speeds. So on the way home there is a orielly were a friend of mine works, i tell him whats happeneing and we check the fluid... pretty empty. So i pick up some fluid top it off and start her up to leave and i cant get it into reverse just grinding. and i have to push with my whole body to get it into first gear... the guy at orielly said he is pretty sure its the slave cylinder... so i take it home and wake up this morning to jack it up and inspect... well there is what appears to be brake fluid under speedo assembly and the whole cable to it is covered in crap.. and i can see the speedo leaking were it connects to tranny.. does the fluid in the clutch assembly lubricate the speedo gear or did i possibly find another problem... the slave cylinder is completly dry and clean. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks peter

thanks for all the help... yeah ive looked under carpet and looks pretty clean. that orange color doesnt help when 30 years old but looks pretty solid but we shall see... thanks again

Hey all one more question for today. I am interested in purchasing a welder i can get one of these companys welder, lincoln and miller. After what ive been reading the best and easiest would be a MIG welder, but can someone give me more advice on which would be the best for working on my z and maybe some other garage projects. Looking for something not over 500 dollars if possible, but ive seen them for 180 so with that budget am hoping for something decent. But it has to be one of those brands do to "connections" any suggestions or advice very helpful thanks peter

hey, i finally am going to try and start fixing some things on my 70' z before i start my swap, here are some pics of my problem areas. i am planning, on purchasing a mig welder and taking a class on how to begin, then hopefully planning on tackling this job by myself. but i do have some friends who know body but would like little help from them. ive read some posts on different replacement frame rails, that appears to be all that is wrong underneath but who knows when i cut out. and that rust is in two front wheel wells, has anyone dealt with a problem in that area and what is easiest way to repair. thanks peter

hey, i am trying to get everything working before i start my project, the tachometer doesnt work on my '70 240z and was wondering if anyone has a quick way to test so i can see if it works then how i would go about re-wiring it. i have the service manual, but the wiring is kind of messed up in the car so i will probably re-wire the thing, if it works. thanks
