I use to shift at 7600rpm, I know 1fastz use to push it to 8000rpms in 3rd..
-
I use to run a th350 trans before with a 3500 stall, I was able to run 10 sec runs no problem. I sold the car to 1fastz (dean) and he put nos on the same car and ran 9.63@150mph. He a had a early 260z before that would run 10 sec runs before also.

Put a auto in that car and they will hold just fine.

I bought my factory service manuel from Ebay. $25 and at the time I found about 4 on there for sale.

I used a welpac 100 for many years with some good luck. I now have a Hobart 175amp 220volt welder. If you are going to spend the $$ you might want to go for the 220 volt and at least a 150-175amp welder. About $650 on ebay

I am in about 4,000 right now and I have about 2-3 more months left
I should have everything done for less than 6,000. My last big bill will be for the paint. But for less than 6k i was able to build a car with,
1972 240z
95 Corvette motor 4l60e trans
Fuel system
R230 rear end
Rear disk brakes
Roll cage, sub frames
Tokico shocks and springs
Headers and ex
Corvette shifter
And many more
So it does not take that much $$ just Time. I started last year and I built everything. I have built carb v8 swaps for less than 3,000 before, so it can be done but you have to find the good deals.

I built my exhaust for my LT1 and I went with 2.5 from the headers into a flowmaster Y and then into one 3" out the back. The 3" fits just fine on the Z-car, I had more room this time around with the R230 and new diff mount. But 311rwhp is good. My first 280Z had about the same HP and would run 12.4@112mph this was with a 2720# weight. I would like to see some track times.

Why would you run a 21/2" ex on that motor?

I took the top of the shock from the 240 and put it on the 280 shocks so the ride should be the same.
Hey Time what did you do for a rear sway bar? It looks like it would be hard with the R230.

I know a car shipping company that will do it for $800. My friend just had his car moved from CA to SC for $800 non running. I will get you the name soon.

Tim, I bought the car last year and when I was towing it back to my house one of the rear tires fell off. The pass side controll arm was ground down about 1/2". Time for the junk yard again.

I am about to order a set of rear Tokico illumina shocks for my z. I want to make sure that I have the right part #, Car is a 1972 240z but I have 280z rear control arms and struts.
Part # BZ3013 is the part # that I got off Tokico web site.
I am going to run Arizona z sport springs also.
thanks

I looked at my other 280z control arm and it was ok. The other side must have been bent at some point in time. Back to the junk yard now.

Today I pulled out my 240z control arms and strut ass to put in some 280z units. But now I have problems, the angle is all wrong for the half shaft. Are the 240 and 280z not the same? I wanted the 280z for the stronger parts and my pass side 240z control arm is bad from when the tire came off.

For some reason the pics will not post, but I have them in my album.

I now have all of the parts to make the r230 swap complete.

I had low 11 sec 1977 280z for about 5 years without any chassis reinforcing. I never had a problem with anything, but this time I am going to run a cage and subframe conn on my 240z.

I went ot your web site, I like it. How long until your car is at the track? I would like to see some times out of the nice car.
-
For the motor that you have I would not go smaller than 3". The LT1 comes from the factory with 2.75..
-
Did you say 21/2" out the back?

I moved to the Bay Area from San Antonio and have never looked back. There are alot of nice places to visit when you come, but I would goto Yosemite. The water falls in Yosemite are flowing alot of water right now. Monterray is a very nice place to stay and visit sites close by.
Good luck

I have used the Datsun shifter in the past. I also mounted it to the floor without any problems. I have a shifter out of a 2000 Camaro and it works good.

Don What are you going to use for seat belts for the street?

It would cost you less $$ if you just put a LT1/T56 in the car. The wiring is not that bad at all, just a few wires to hook up. Good luck
