  1. Make any progress? I'm interested in this thread.
  2. Wow! I hope I can build my ZX that nice. Great job!
  3. New belts are on as of yesterday morning. Took it for a test drive and blew a heater core line right where it comes out of the block. I swear, I'm going to have a brand new car by the time its done breaking. I think I'm just going to block it off, the climate control doesn't work anyway.
  4. Aaaaaand I lost the alternator belt... Damn it.
  5. I don't know. My spark issue came from a bad ignition module. I honestly could not say.
  6. Got it fixed today. My valves were way out of spec, and I lost the retaining spring, the rocker and the shim off of #4 intake valve. Got it all put back together and adjusted. Runs smooth, valve train is quiet... I also put in a new ignition module. Good stuff! Thanks to everyone for the support!

Before I bought my Z it was my goal to put a 20BT into and old Opel GT. Maybe I will someday. A 2000 pound, 650 horse toy just sounds like fun!
  8. Not yet. I didn't get a chance to do anything with the car this weekend. I do have a head on the way, thanks to Nops. We'll see how it all goes with the swap.
  9. I'm going to pull the valve cover this weekend and have a look. I plan on buying another head anyway, spares are always nice. Might as well polish everything while I'm at it.
  10. I got cut off by some prick on the highway. Tried to drop a gear from 5th to to 4th but caught 2nd instead. The tach needle buried hard at 7k, only for maybe, maybe a second. Then it was running like crap. I feel horrible. I yucked up bad....
  11. Doesn't matter now... I think I bent the valves in #4 cylinder yesterday. #&?!@*
  12. It was more like nasty dirty oil than grease...
  13. Yep. Module. Cleaned it, no issues with the car dying now.
  14. Lol. Yeah, it's a P.I.T.A. to get to as well. But, I got the car to die on me, and checked for spark. Got nothing. Played with everything around the dizzy and coil, nothing. Then I pulled the module off, and was surprised at how filthy it was... All the connections were corroded and the back of the module was covered in grease. Car runs fine now! Thanks everyone, really appreciate all the help.
  15. Yes, only when warm. I'll give your idea a go as well. Thank you guys! I'll let you know how it goes.
  16. How do I go about checking if its got fuel when it dies? Pull an injector? I really have no idea. Of course, this will only come after I check for spark...
  17. When it dies the tach goes to zero, the lights and everything are fine. The engine just quits with no warning. I haven't checked for spark when it happens yet. I'll get back here when I do. Like I said, the engine offers no warning. Literally, it's fine one second, then it's dead. No sputtering or power loss, no lead up to the event.
  18. So I recently purchased the car mentioned in the title, and I have a problem that has me stumped. The car will start and idle great, and runs pretty well considering all the little bugs. The car will run for 3-6 miles on the highway, then die. No warning, nothing. Running one second, nothing the next. It will start again after a few minutes, then die a mile or two later. If I let it sit for an hour or eight, as I did yesterday because I caught a ride to work, it'll start and run fine. It died again as I pulled into my driveway... Any ideas? It's an 82 ZX N/A.
  19. Got one two weeks ago. Has a trashed steering rack, sloppy tranny, dents, dings, and an old paint job. But it runs! Took a little bit of fuel line and a LOT of vacuum line. Still doesn't start with the key, I have to jump the starter, but hey, for $1500, why the hell not?
  20. The car is actually step 2 in my plan for greatness. Step 2 is to build the beginning of my Pikes Peak Hill climb car.
  21. So, I bought a really rough non-turbo ZX for $1500 yesterday with the goal of putting my Explorers 302 in it. Both are running vehicles, but both need some love. The ZX is rust free but it's in pretty poor condition mechanically... The Explorer has been in my family since '98 or '99, and has 181,000 miles on it. Its all there, but I'm tired of it. I figure if I start with two running vehicles, I should have ALMOST everything I need. What I can't buy, I'll build.
