  1. you live in temecula??
  2. i also thought about that too. it's kinda cool how many different carb/engine configurations there are with Z's. never going to have the same sounding car
  3. haha yea. at first i was like "man! people are vicious for new clips here!!" i think...i'm going to have to steal my friends camera this week cuz the phone clips jus aint cutting it.
  4. I must have watched you video's 20 times demonz i would say that mine sound deeper than yours but then again, i'm sure it's just the microphone. i'm kinda anxious to hear what mine sounds like on camera too. after having this installed, i wouldn't want any other exhaust setup...i'm THAT pleased with the sound.
  5. haha i like how you put the smiley face at the end. sure thing...dont know how good my phone will be
  6. i think that they actually MAKE you go through hell jus because they know that once you fire it up....you'll forget about it. i know i do when i start it up
  7. Hey guys. Jus got the twice pipes installed yesterday. let me tell you...horrible horrible fit. the head pipe and the y-pipe were great but everything from that back didn't line up and was at an angle. of course this is AFTER the guy removed my stock system so he was either going to charge me 150 to put my stock exhaust BACK on or another 100 to modify the kit and make it work. he basically made his own bends from his straight pipes and connected them to the glasspacks. took him around 3 hours BUT after that, i got to fire it up for the first time. OH MY GOSH!!! what a sound!! even the mechanic was greatly surprised haha. it does resonate from 2-3k but nothing that really bothers me. and once you get up to 4k and above it's jus pure heaven so in my mind...if i can get the extra 100 back from msa it's a good deal...if not...i'm greatly disappointed that they won't stand behind their product. so be warned...you may have troubles with this system. i even called ahead and asked if there was any problems i should be aware of but of course they said no. anywho, i'll post a video when i get a hold of a camra
  8. so i jus got my twice pipes today! woot! hopefully i'll have em on the car by tmrw or monday and i'll try and get a video up for everybody. can't wait!!
  9. google "richards performance exhaust" they're down in vista but i was quoted around 350 for a header back 2.5 in so i dont think it be much more than another 50 for the 3 in
  10. man, ur project sure is moving swiftly! i was just wondering, what school do you go to? i'm originally from ma and was just curious...
  11. from what i've learned, using the 6-1 headers is really more for track use. since ur going to be in higher rpms most of the time, thats the header to use because it makes more hp at higher rpms. i'm going to be doing some autocrossing, nothing big, and will prob go with either a 3-2-1 or the 6-2-1. but, no, i dont know the hp specs either
  12. interesting that a l28 could sounds ricey haha. well, ur piping is fine. wouldn't want to go too much bigger than 2.5 on an n/a. i'd look into gettting a different muffler. try going with either a straight through like the dybomax ultraflo or a single chambered flowmaster.
  13. *phew* well, that being said, i'm much more at ease. sounds like from what i've been reading, most (and i hope) smog techs dont know a lot about cars. so i might be able to get around the headers/dp issue and pass the visual. so, when going to get the car smogged, would one have to tell the techs "hey this isn't an l28...it's a l28et?" i mean, i dont want to sound like an idiot "hey come look at my non-original engine!!" but do the different engines have different requirements for emissions? or is this when you would go to a ref and get that BAR sticker???
  14. wha wha wait?! say what!? i can't even swap in a l28et?! cuz there go my plans down the drain
  15. yea i could....but it's cheaper to just go with a regular setup. and i know, my first Z was a '77 from chicago so it had nothing on it but a muffler sounded nice indeed!!
  16. i LOVE the sound of twice pipes! too bad the kit msa sells doesn't include room for a cat. i HATE freakin emissions in Cali. kinda wish i had gotten a '74 260 haha.
  17. Yea, why people get the chambered ones still...baffles me:lmao:haha if i could, i'd just run a straight pipe out the back but unfortunately i live in socal =/ i was also wondering...how's that 7mgte swap working out for you? I used to have an '88 turbo and man did i love that engine
  18. I came to the same conclusion. And hey, the louder the better right
  19. thanks shaggyz. useful information indeed. i do find it quite interesting how different dynomax mufflers are compared to say, the flowmaster 40 series. the fm seems to have all these plates and chambers inside, generating a distinct sound i suppose. the great thing about dynomax is that it has wayyyy better flow(almost 4 times the CFM) than the fm or magnaflow. since the dynomax is just a straight perforated tube lined with fiberglass, it doesn't have to go in and out of plates and chambers. and the only difference i can find between the turbo and the ultraflo is that the turbo muffler has an "S" like flow for a more mellow sound while the ultraflo is just a straight shot out the back
  20. Makes sense to meeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! but i'm still confused as to why people choose the turbo muffler over the higher flowing one >_< Any input oh highly exalted people of hybridZ???
  21. Ok so i've been doing some snooping around on the forums and i see that a lot of guys are using a variety of mufflers and pipe diameters. From what i've "learned" it seems that keeping the piping at 2.5 for a stock l28 is probably best. it seems that going to a 3in is only recommended for turbo setups and that if a 3in were to be put on a n/a l28 the lost back pressure could actually hurt the engine. so i dont want to go there. anywho, i was looking at different mufflers and whatnot, and although most people go with the dynomax "turbo" muffler, you can get a considerable amount of more flow from an ultraflo. my question is "is that extra flow harmful? why do many people, including Motorsports Auto, go with the "turbo" muffler?" thanks-datsun723
  22. haha yea i did the ash tray cup holder thing too.....nearly burned my tongue off > i planned on swapping the cat out for a less restrictive one anyways...maybe that'll cool things down. does anyone know if the MSA interior insulation would help? things are already hot enough out here in socal haha. thanks for your input
  23. Hello. I have a '78 280Z stock. my question is that i know that these are hot cars but after an hour or so of driving, the plastic console covering the tranny is really really hot. is this normal? the trans shifts fine, no grinding or anything. it's the stock exhaust system with no leaks or anything. and if this is normal...will an insulation cool down the interior? any input is appreciated! thanks
