I used to think station wagons were lame but when subaru decided to make one with a turbo charged boxer engine and a stick shift I began to change my mind. A lightly used forester makes a great family car. Very reliable, roomy, quick and often found under 25k.

I love my 79' but is it me or is the 79' the black sheep of the Z world?

Ok, how much did the engine/tranny cost, and also how much did the parts for converting it cost?

I also own a 79 zx. I had major leaks all over the place. The hatch was the biggest leaker.

How much did that cost?

If s130 panels were available I would be interested.

Now I see back seats in sports car as a disadvantage. You can't enjoy the driving experience with an annoying backseat driver. Plus its just more dead weight to carry around.

No I don't mind at all. In fact I agree it probably would have been something I would have said about Datsun 40 years ago. It never occurred to me when I was writing about Hyundai that I was forgetting automotive history.

I think Hyundai should stick to doing what they do best and make cheap economy cars. On paper the Genesis looks good and even in person it's not so bad. Here is what's wrong with the car, it's a Hyundai. IMO people are not going to spend $30K on a Hyundai. Even if the car is a steal new (which it seems it is), most of the buying public is still going to view it as a Korean knock-off. They sort of tried this before with the XG350 and they did not exactly move a lot of them.

Graphics are pretty poor but not surprising given the games system requirements are "Windows XP or Vista, Mouse, Keyboard and a Desire to Drive Insanely Fast!" Does not look like much engineering went into it. I would expect that lack of polish in a freeware game but not one costing $30!

Well since you are obviously already spending big dough so why dont you get a nice custom fiber hood, will give you plenty of clearance and lose some weight at the same time.

What is a ICM anyway?

I am from south jersey about 10 min from philly. Not too many old Z's on this side of the bridge.

Would a 82-83 turbo dizzy be workable in a NA application?

$6k is way more then you would get around my parts for a 12 year old corolla regardless of miles. Thouse cars are econoboxes, drive them till they fall apart and walk away. Your not going to be selling it at Barret Jackson in 10 years so why care?

I got my Z when I was 26 and my car is 4 years older then me(79' zx) I have always drove older POS cars and was always fond of Z's in general. I was not in the market for a car at all but when the chance to get a Z came up I could not pass it up. She is not my dream Z but I love her and am slowly fixing her up bit by bit. It is not a daily driver so it has the honor of being in pieces most of the time. She is currently in driveable condition and I take her out whenever the weather alows me to. Online Communities like this one helped seal the deal in buying that old car.

Is it a real 307 or the ever present SBC hodgepodge motors? OEM 307's were only rated at 200hp at their peak. I guess it might would be worth it with headers and a decent carb.

Is it really worth the effort? I own a great running 79 zx automatic. I love everything about the car except that it is a auto. I would love to make it a 5 speed but wonder if it is really worth all the work. I have often thought of selling my zx and buying the first 5-speed that comes along. I would like to hear some opinions as well as from people who have preformed the swap and weather or not they would do the swap again.

Very few people rock a old Z in South Jersey. I have had a local cop look at the car and he had no idea what it was.

I hate the obnoxious turn signals on the fenders of my ZX. Is it legal in any state (including NJ where nothing is legal) to take them off? If not does anyone think that the cops would even notice or care?
