MSA type 2 airdam I got for my birthday. Unfortunately, the way my driving lights were mounted, they wouldn't fit with the new bumper. Much bondo later, my quarter was finished (although I did a crap job painting it, I just wanted it done). It was time to put the bumper back on. This is with the whole car painted. This side looks better.

A little random but this is a picture of me and my brother with our Z's. OK so... Being as poor as I am because of this car, I couldn't afford to get the quarter repainted, so I decided to flat black the car. 2am nights bored at my house led me to try it. I started with the roof just to see how it would turn out, then every day or so I did more panels.

Ok time for more! These are in between the body damage and some other stuff, so I'm going to lump them all together. Battery Relocation with cut off switch The battery is now in the spare tire holder, with a custom hold down (needed it for autocross), but I don't have any pictures of it. Energy suspension sway bar bushings & endlinks JDM gauge cluster, only in KM/HR 240sx throttle body with custom tube (pre turbo engine) Schroth Rallye 4 point harness

So I didn't drive the car for a few months, but one day decided to go cut out part of the quarter and roll the metal back so I could take my baby for a drive. I drove it with that qp damage for a long time so I could save up for a black dragon quarter skin, new bumper, and quarter window. Got ready one day and went to the shop I was working at to tackle the job. Here's pictures from when I fixed it. It's not the best work, but cmon, it was my first experience with any kind of body work.

I realized later I could've pulled it out a little, but I had no tools or anything with me. :/

This is going to hurt a lot of you, I know it hurt me. In June of '07 I was driving the twisties on highway 128 (Lake Beryessa) with one of my buddies. Mind you, my car was pretty much stock at the time, and I definitely shouldn't have been pushing it as hard as I was, but c'mon, I was just a kid! So around 5AM, I'm coming around a right hand sweeper and see headlights coming the other way. I panicked and hit the brakes, and the rear of my car slid into the middle of the road. I ended up swiping the other car with my driver rear quarter. This was taken a few minutes after the crash. I couldn't drive the car home because the quarter was pushed up against the tire. A $600 tow later, the car was back at my house, and my parents were pissssssed haha. So the car sat in my driveway for a couple months.

I have big plans, however the car looks nothing like this now These pictures are from years ago. I'm getting more recent ones gathered up right now.

A few months later, added some Hella driving lights and a sweet Datsun vinyl!

Totally stock, got it with about 170K miles, non-turbo, 5 speed, brown with tan interior. My dad put MSA lowering springs with KYB GR-2s right after he bought the car.

Hey there. I have been on hybridz for awhile, but I realized I haven't posted any pictures of my car or anything. So I'm going to start now, but I'm going to post pictures in chronological order from when I got the car about 5 years ago. I'm slowly gathering all my pictures so I can post them all here. So here is my car when I got it from my dad in 2006...

I dunno if anyone has posted this, but its a water to air intercooler that bolts right up where the J tube is supposed to go on a L28ET. Pretty badass. http://www.dragtimes.com/parts/-Rare-Nissan-280ZX-Turbo-Water-To-Air-Intercooler-_190511937476.html

So the theory is that the boost pressure inside the turbine is higher than the pressure inside the manifold because of the drop, correct? So as an arbitrary number, the manifold pressure is 8 but the turbo is actually boosting around 10 or so, which would be enough to force the wastegate open.

Check your engine harness, make sure all the connectors are tight, and that no rats got into your car. Check all of your fuses first for the lighting issues. Those are all on the same couple circuits. Also, the headlight switches go out a lot. Old Nissans are NOTORIOUS for crappy and mysterious wiring issues. Does your radio turn on and off randomly while driving? When my alternator when out, about 20 minutes before my car died, the radio was switching on and off at random because there wasn't enough juice to keep it on. If you need wiring diagrams, you can get the FSM at xenons130.com Good luck man!

help setting the timing when the heads don't match
zx_drift replied to Mobious9's topic in S130 Series - 280ZX
You can definitely do it in the car. Once you get the crank pulley, dizzy, oil pump and water pump out you just pull all the 10mm bolts out of the cover. There are also a few down below that bolt the oil pan to the timing cover so you have to get underneath for those. But it will definitely save you the huge hassle of trying to line up the crank gear with the cover still on (if it's even possible). -
The release bearing collar is different for a 82-83 turbo because those have a T5 in them. All the rest are the same I believe.

I use BPR7ES-11 in my turbo ZX. BPR6ES-11 is stock heat range, 5 is hotter, and 7 is colder.

I meant disconnecting the vacuum/boost line to the wastegate, not the rod haha. My exhaust is a "catback" and thats in quotes because its been cut and clamped together and there are some crushed spots :/. It still flows ok though.
-
I had a suspicion that it might be the spring in the actuator, I will try to completely disconnect the wastegate and see what happens. I'm also going to try swapping it with another one if I can find it...
-
It is a bleed type.

Maybe a couple of pictures will help, I'll try and take some later today. I'll try to explain everything without them. My boost gauge is hooked up to the intake manifold. It is a brand new autometer, not some off-brand. The wastegate is getting its reference from one of the ports on the compressor side of the turbo. (right near the outlet) The boost controller is tee'd in to the line going from the turbo to the wastegate actuator. Let me know if you need any more info, and I will take some pictures tonight.

Yeah, I did think of that, so I welded it shut (I have a spare).

So the description isn't exactly right, but it had to be short. Here's the deal. I have a 280ZX turbo, and this past week I put in a large intercooler. After the install, the car dropped from stock (7psi) to about 5 psi of boost. I figured this is just because of the long tubes and the giant intercooler. So I installed this manual boost controller I have, turned it out a few turns, and the boost barely comes up. After messing around for a little bit, I take the boost controller off, but leave an open vacuum line tee'd inline to the wastegate. This was just a test to see if there was some problem with the controller. After doing a run, the car only boosts to about 8 psi. It should have been a lot higher seeing as how pretty much all of the pressure going to the wastegate was being bled off. Needless to say, I'm a little stumped right now. If anybody has any ideas, or has had the same situation, please give me a shout. Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Call Motorsport Auto (thezstore.com) and they can look up the part number for you. Tell you what year, transmission type, engine type. All the works.

Yeah no problem. Glad I could help.
