  1. Bought this car a few years ago with an LQ4/Mp112 combo. It had a couple of bent rods so I decided to put a Dart Next LS motor in and backed out after 2 years to try and build something a bit more sedate. I still had the Holley Dominator efi so I changed a couple of harnesses so it would work with the LS3 DBW throttle body and 4l80e. Haven't read all that much about the aluminum motors, but went that route to save a bit of weight up front so I could move the motor up and forward a bit and not use a dry sump oiling system. Progress has been slow due to lack of interest in the whopping 325 or so hp level and the fact that i have a 2JZGTE sitting here I could put in instead.
  2. I just bought a non-vvti gte about a week and a half ago. They don't seem to be as available as they were, especially with the rear sump. Actually it's a lot easier to find the motors than it is to find shops to work on them. At least in CA. RonA
  3. There's an rb25 swapped Z in SF bay area on Craigslist.
  4. Got a motor and the shop is going to build a harness for it and supply all the electronics to run it. Decided to go with the 4l80 as a transmission and a stand alone so hopefully it won't give any problems as far as breakage .
  5. Made a call to Kaisen in Southern Ca. Going to try and get some stuff from him so I can get started on this. Harness and electronics for sure. Might even try and get a motor from him instead of the local JDM places.
  6. What about transmission control? Car currently has a nicely built 4l80E, but I was thinking about selling it and getting an A340E from ATF. Seems like most of the aftermarket electronics are designed for using a manual transmission and I'd hate to buy a something and then find out it wouldn't control the auto. If I went with a manual valve body in the 4l80, I assume an ECU for a manual application would work?
  7. Was told today the infinity 6 would not control the transmission so I need to look a bit further.
  8. Just got rid of my Chevy stuff and would like to start collecting for a 2jz swap. The following was recommended along with a harness from Wiring Specialties. Infinity 6 $1399.95 Infinity 6 mini harness $399.60 Wideband Sensor w/connector $140.27 Oil pressure sensor $63.84 Fuel pressure sensor $152.96 MAP Sensor $149.96 Intake Air Temp Sensor $49.95 Boost control Solenoid $71.94 Coolant temp sensor (optional) $38.01 Flex Fuel Sensor (optional) $213.00 If I purchase the complete engine w/ecm along with these parts, will that be the basics for getting it to fire up if it's supplied with power and fuel? Thanks. RonA
  9. Do you happen to have any pictures of the steering rack re-location? It would open up some possibilities for me if I could move mine .75" to 1" forward from stock. Moving the motor down and back has caused quite a few little issues. Not the least of which was the switch to a dry sump. Thanks. Ron Allen
  10. Glad to hear you found a good one the first try. My first LQ4 had 4 broken pistons(valve tick), the second had severe salt erosion on the block(.080 deep), but the 3rd was really nice. Unfortunately I had already purchased an aftermarket block, crank, rods, and heads by that time.
  11. 4 link on a bumpy road, "click, clack, clack, click". But nice on the launch.
  12. The six bolt eats up precious room in an area that doesn't have a lot to spare. Especially with the firewall moved back a bit. Outstanding results at the track by the way. Seeing results like this makes the wait for an engine build a bit less painful.
  13. Looks very nice. I'll be interested to hear how the turbo works for you.
