  1. I went with white because the wife didn't let me paint it orange lol
  2. It's been several months, time for an update! I've been driving the car for Once in a while, took it to a few local cars and coffee events, but it was time to get it painted, there's only so long that I can keep driving it around flat black til it gets to me! It was time to start prepping for paint, so I started taking the car apart in my garage Big pile of parts Conveniently after I got this far, a friend of mine suggested I bring it to his shop to work on it, And since I didn't want to put it all back together, on the tow truck it went. Let the sanding begin! Fixing a rust hole in the door. After 2 months, this is how far I got on the car, and with a baby due in a short time, I had to send the car off to be finished. 4 days in the paint shop and here's the results! Overall I am very pleased with how the paint job came out. I wasn't too happy how they painted the entire gas tank white, as well as my muffler and exhaust piping, but some black spray paint and a can of aircraft remover fixed it up.
  3. Nice write up. Is the diode necessary? I've read the writeup on AntanticZ but never saw a mention of using a diode.
  4. Thanks guys, I'll check the grounds out for sure! I'd still like to try out the ZX alternator. Sometimes I need to use my lights, A/C and wipers at the same time, and right now that's a struggle!
  5. My alternator does look pretty old, maybe even original...? I'll try the ZX one and see if that helps my case.
  6. Sorry if this has been covered on here before, but I did a quick search and didn't find exactly what I was looking for. Here goes...when the car is moving, 2k rpm and up, voltage is around 13.5 (maybe a bit low, but I get by). At idle, it drops as low as 9.4V, so low that when the headlights are on, and I put the turn signal on, there's not enough juice to make the signal blink. The needle on the amp gauges hovers below the middle mark at idle. Once I start driving, it'll be right in the middle. Cold starts when I haven't driven the car in a few days is rough. Car starts up easily, but once it's on, voltage is low for a few minutes once I start driving. Battery check out, but I don't know the history on the alternator, or the voltage regulator. At this point I'm thinking I should just get a new 60amp ZX alternator and see if that helps, but I figured I'd check to see if anyone has any insight. Thanks!
  7. The B13 is pretty much done. I had to update a few things, and some basic maintenance since it sat for about 8 years. But it's great the way it is. This is my daily driver now, so I don't want to mess with it too much.
  8. While I was under the car, I upgraded my fart can from a no name brand S13 ebay one, to a Vibrant titanium...what can I say, it sounds better at least And I started to pull off the whole front end to see what kind of rust I was dealing with there. Not terrible, mostly surface rust. Don't mind the office carpet inside the car...it came that way I know expanding foam isn't the best fix, but it will have to work for now There she is, put back together, with a new front splitter. That's it for now, mostly because my latest acquisition is taking up all my time; 91 Sentra SE-R
  9. I continued to have fuel problems, drained the tank a few times, and a whole lot of rust came out. So it was time to have it cleaned and recoated professionally. Due to the aggressive nature of the cleaning, the screen pickup inside the tank is gone, and I've had to run a filter before the pump. New Bosch fuel pump and fuel filter. I've eliminated the fuel damper from the system.
  10. http://m.summitracing.com/parts/hda-3817 Looks like this may be the one. It's a great fit but I wonder how the 23 amp draw on high speed would be with the stock electrical system?
  11. That looks like a great fit. What fan is that? All the 16" ones I've seen have a motor that sticks out too far and mathe interfere with the water pump pulley.
  12. Bastard! What a sweet score! Around here, for that price you'll get a car that's half buried into the ground, lots of rust, and no engine.
  13. I've got a stock radiator and L28, and it runs very cool according to the gauge. I've got a new thermostat and new water pump, and it never reaches half way unless I drive the car hard with the A/C on. I'm not going with an electric fan because of overheating issues, I just want to get rid of the clutch fan setup, and maybe free a little hp in the process.
  14. Has anyone tried using the stock 280Z fan shroud over a 16" electric fan? I'm leaning towards a single Spal 16" fan, the dimensions allow it to fit on the core. The shroud opening is 18"+, but the stock fan is slightly offset and sits above the core. I'm just looking for a little feedback before I go this option. I know the Taurus fan is a popular option, as is the dual 12" fans, but I'm just looking for opinions on the 16" fan. Thanks guys!
  15. Thanks! Goal is to get it painted by the end of the year. I think I'll keep it gold, the car in the Clarion video had me sold on leaving it the same color.
  16. Never de-rusted the tank. When I drained it, the fuel came out clean, and I peeked inside and it didn't look bad, so I left it alone. I'll probably check up on the fuel filter when I do my next oil change, just to see how things are looking.
  17. Here's a few pics I took yesterday, most of the rust repair has been done, just a few more spots. I also had some power loss, and lean condition at full throttle at 4000rpm and up. It turned out to be a very very dirty/clogged filter, so make sure you check your fuel filter often!
  18. I didn't. And I don't know how much it'll need to get it in running shape.
  19. I may have to check it again. I dropped the tank when I bought the car last year. I drained out about 4 gallons of fuel, but it came out clean. Could the fuel line be producing so much rust?
  20. I've got a set, but it's missing the linkages, and some of the bolts. I ended up buying it in hopes of ditching the EFI on my 280, but plans have changed. If you're interested, I'll take $100 + shipping
  21. Dirty/clogged fuel filter was the culprit! New filter element is installed, car is back to its slightly faster self. AF maintains 11.4:1 all the way to redline. I'll have to adjust the AFM again and lean it out slightly. Thanks again Tony for the suggestion. The filter wasn't in that long, but got dirty real quick, would have never thought that was the problem. I'll have to check it every few months now.
