  1. I haven't looked recently, but J. C. Whitney had a complete rebuild kit for the T-5. Two kits, one for the "World class" 87 and later Mustang and another for the other T-5s, ie: nissan and early GM. Try them, ecp48
  2. All set to install, late maxima brackets, 300ZX rotors, 240SX Calipers ?? with Ross's KVR pads and steel braided hoses. I started looking at the new rotors and then the brackets and realized the rotors were way to big for the bracket and caliper. Does anyone know if the 240SX caliper and mounting bracket are casting #k36 & K37. Does the 240SX Caliper sit higher on the bracket than the 280ZX caliper, thus allowing the larger rotor? Calipers were sold to me as 240SX, but I'm questioning now, due to the rotor size issue. I would think there is a major benefit in leverage/braking in using the larger rotor. Thanks, ecp48 ''
  3. I got a new one off of ebay (for a 280ZXT) 2 months ago. Seller was a dealer in Oklahoma, who had bought a load of NOS stock from Nissan. Nissan Part #: C2201-P9500 NEOSHO TRUCK PARTS, INC 101 SW MAIN STREET RED OAK, OK 74563 oemsurplus (oem@pisp.net) (Paypal Address) oem@oem-surplus.com also, the following link was on the IZCC distribution: http://www.oem-surplus.com/nwp/280zx.htm By the way, if it is for an 84 - 89 Turbo, I have one in the Tranny. I am converting a V-6 unit for use in an L6. Hope this helps. ecp48
  4. datsun280Zmike, This is another one of those times you have to disregard the instructions. When I did mine (also 280Z) six months ago, I called energy's tech support and got a "really". I suggested that they update the instructions, but obviously it hasnt happened. Mat73GNZ is right on point. The only shell to leave is the moustache bar. ecp48
  5. Speedracer Thanks guy, I will give it a shot. Do you have any idea how durable it is? Too a used car guy it wouldn't matter, but??? thanks again, ecp48
  6. Has anyone done a succesful restore on original carpet? My carpet ('78 280) is in super shape, just faded to that red/brown color from the original black. Is there a good carpet dye out there. I had a previous post I picked up for a VHT product, but it appears to have been a vinyl dye. Thanks, ecp48

    maxima flywheel

Daw, A further question, is the 4 cylinder flywheel balanced to work on the six? ecp48

    maxima flywheel

    J. Soileau 74260z Even so, there is a discrepancy of 17 to 18 lbs. on the low side and 20 on the high side. No apologies necessary. Just another one of those very nebulous areas, which keep things interesting. Ed Palmer/ecp48

    maxima flywheel

    J. Soileau 74260zt What year was it off of? I'm beginning to think that the assembly line workers did some of this to raise questions 20 to 30 years in the future! There does not seem to be any reason for the various quirks. Looking at the brake brackets, I had originally thought they would be the same, just welded on, but they are not. The welded bracket is tapped for small retaining machine screws, but the dust shiled is sized for the 10MM bolts. I'M OFF THREAD, but the flywheel weight seems to be more of the same. ecp48

    maxima flywheel

ON3GO, I got turned on to this "lightweight flywheel by a thread on another site. I later found one, a Y70 Flywheel from a 1984 Maxima, but it weighs 20 lbs. This was on a verified scale. We batted it around (on the thread) and basically decided it was better than a 240 -280 (E-30 casting number at 24 lbs) It could be another quirk, like the hard to find Maxima Disk Brake Brackets (this car was welded!) ecp48
  11. Hey folks, If no one knows this guy, then I guess I will resort to the legal procedures, just takes time and won't produce the headers! I'll give him a couple of more days, I really don't want to burn someone who is just under the gun, etc. Thanks, ecp48
  12. Hey Guys and/or Ladies; If there is anyone on the list who lives near Victorville, CA or Rialto, CA, I could use some help. I recently mailed a money order to 280Z-Racer, $65.00 including shipping for the purchase of a “slightly used 240Z MSA 6-2-1 Header. His ad was posted on the old HybridZ sale or wanted forum. I haven’t had any response from him in about two weeks and the phone number is picked up by an answering machine. Either, the guy is a loser and is trying to stiff me or he is just overworked, underpaid and taking an unannounced vacation! He used to be on the HybridZ list a lot (124 postings), but no postings since 3/12. The address I mailed the money order to was Steven Bower, 765 S. Lilac Ave. Rialto, CA 92376. He was shown as living in Victorville and a student on the site bio and this was the phone number from the for-sale posting (1-909-820-2742). His email on the bio is no longer good. Any help would be appreciated. I really don’t want to resort to the Post Office, due to the “stolen or fraudulently induced†postal money order! Thanks in advance, ecp48/Ed Palmer Athens, GA
  13. I ran a search on the Tiburon seats and they can be gotten for a very good price (150 -250 each in Leather, or 75 to 100 each in cloth). Has anyone looked at the base. How much fabrication will be required? They look like a real solution to my seat problem, if they will work. ecp48
  14. Another couple of complications to your statement. 1. there are two different Maxima Brackets. Early and late. Early uses the early ZX caliper (from memory, 79-80) Later, which I used, is the 82-84 and late ZX Caliper. (I have heard that the 1981 Maxima's could have either bracket. I have an 84 with "welded brackets that I am puling apart presently. I noted that the "weld" is a very thin bead. If I can get the yard to slice off the ends of the arms, I am going to try cutting the bead with a disk. It appears like the weld is almost an after thought. the same four bolts hold it on either way. In hindsight, I am kicking myself for trashing a number of 280zx arms over the years without really looking at them. 2. The 300ZX rotors must be 84 to have the four lug mount. Later 85 on was a five lug hub and rotor. 3. There are some plumbing problems (slightly different ends to the hoses, etc.) Modern Motorsports, MSA or fonebooth.com, all have braided house kits for this changeover. good luck. ecp48
  15. The brackets are from an 84 Maxima. I am using 1984 300ZX Rotors and the 240SX calipers. Totally bolt together. You do have to remove the hub to install these brackets. The installation is partially complete. When I'm at home for a couple of days (in a week), I'll try to get some pictures. If you do a search, either here or on the Internet Z Club site, you will find pictures. Jeromio also has posted some pictures on his web site, ths links are in a thread on this site. Also, the Modern Motorsports and Motorsports Auto sites have pictures of similar installations, though the after market brackets do not require the removal of the stub axle/hub. ecp48/ Ed Palmer
  16. Does anyone know of a web sourced discussion of the installation and adjustment of the 240SX caliper. I know how it bolts together, but without buying another manual, I have no data on how to appropriately adjust the caliper for initial use. I used a spanner and screwed the piston in to bottom, but that is just my natural reaction to what I saw in front of me. I decided, after spending the money to do this, it was stupid to shoot from the hip and not ask for the specific set up information. Thanks in advance, ecp48/Ed Palmer
  17. Has any one heard that you have to remove the electronics out of the turbo Air Flow Meter and reinstall the Naturally Aspirated electronics for the unit to work appropriately on the NA L6. I was just hit with this and was not aware that the electronics were different. Please comment. ecp48/Ed Palmer Athens, GA
  18. Just a comment, I just bought a rebuilt unit at Autozone for 39.99 + core, Pep Boys wanted 157.97! Number is Fenco #M51837. Hope it helps. ecp48
  19. Phantom, Will they break packages/boxes? My local Fastenal Distributor will only sell me a full box, I need 8 of each. Thanks, ecp48
  20. I am looking for a source, on line or otherwise for fasteners. I initially need the longer 10mm x12.5 bolts for fastening the Maxima brackets to my rear hubs (78 280Z) and the longer 10mm x 1.25 bolts for fastening the new 300ZX rotors to my 280 front Hubs (.375 longer for spacer). (with 14MM hex or allen socket) Locally (Athens, Ga.), I could only find them with a flanged head or an oversize hex, which won't fit due to the size of the heads on the inside of the rotors. I have everything else for the project, except the pads, which are on the way from Ross, and this was the last thing I expected to be a problem, but.... Thanks in advance, Ed Palmer/ecp48 Athens, GA
  21. Hey Guys, I'm looking for a clear photo (Side and Rear of a Z (240-280) with the rear skirt/bumper cover from the MSA Aero kit installed. I would like to be able to mark it up and remove the lower portion(s). I would like to use the "bumper portion" to balance the front Dam, but dislike the heaviness of the "ground effects" addition on the bottom and the built in splash shields on the rear wheel well. Just bought the piece from Freaky Painter's garage sale and would rather play on paper, before cutting!! (thanks Jason) I got a couple of pics from JoeyB (thanks Joe), but he hadn't installed the rear piece, felt it was too heavy looking., which I agree with totally. Just trying to decide where to cut, without butchering it!! Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, ecp48 Ed Palmer
  22. Spdsk8r, What are the mounting points like on these seats? Will they take a Z rail or does the support structure need to be reworked. Are both sides level? I'm assuming the eclipse would be the same. thanks, ecp48 Ed Palmer
  23. Ross, Thanks for the info. The rear calipers are 240SX on Maxima Brackets. I am using 1984 ZX Rotors. Thanks, ecp48 Ed Palmer
  24. Rich, I have the brakes, I just was waffleing (sp) on the right pads to use. Originally planned on Performance Friction - Carbon Metalic. Works great on my Explorer, but thought about pad hardness, ie: a pad used on a 6000 pound truck vs. a 2500 pound sports car. Rear was going to be the same manufacturer only for the 240sx, which probably a softer compound pad. Thanks for the response. Ed Palmer/ecp48 Athens, Ga. PS, I get over your way periodically. I work for a company in Lumberton.
  25. RedNeckZ What pads are you using for the Toyota Calipers? What about the rear pads as well. Someone made a reference to WRX using the same pad as the Forerunner, but you had to remove the "tabs", I assume they meant the wear sensors, same as the S13W (later 4Runner). Any thoughts? ecp48
