  1. Should it be 50% distilled water to 50% coolant? Less than 50% coolant? I want to have optimal cooling and not damage a new radiator. Thanks
  2. So, it's a matter of choosing one side or the other to mount the sensor... I have a dual exhaust set up on a sbc. I figured the H pipe wouldn't work. X yes, H no.
  3. Just wondering if I can put it in the h pipe so it gets exhaust from each cylinder bank? Does it matter?
  4. The best way to improve mileage and power to weight ratio is for the driver to lose weight.
  5. I installed a 3 row Champion Alum. rad and it keeps my sbc about 5-10 degrees cooler than a 4 row brass cored radiator.
  6. It's inexpensive, lightweight, easy to cut with scissors and does a noticeable job of both sound and heat insulation.
  7. I'm glad this thread has generated so many responses. It has helped me make the decision to go with a quiet version of the cam gears. The idea of a chain stretching and ultimately breaking, (Not to mention the effects of imprecise timing), I'll take the quiet Pete Jackson set-up. The longevity and reliability is worth the price. Everyone has a different vision for their Zcar, but it's great to have the access to the minds who love the car and want to not only keep it alive, but make it better!
  8. Thanks for all of the input guys. I have the noisy version put in by the p.o.. Maybe I'll go with the quiet Pete Jackson gears. This is a street and back roads prowler. I'm not trying to be the fastest or noisiest car in town. Just like the power on demand. Love the Z!!!
  9. I have a sbc in a '71 240Z. I'm not sure I like the sound of the gears and wonder if the benefit of precise timing is worth the annoying whirr of these cam gears. It makes the engine sound very different and is annoying to me on any drive over an hour or so. So, I'm thinking about a timing chain set-up. What do you guys think??? Any input is appreciated.
  10. JohnC: Is that true for stock 240's, or does it also apply to a car with a built 350 in it? I have noticed the understeer. Wouldn't shifting some weight rearward (relocate the battery for instance) help with understeer and rear wheel traction?
  11. The jtr manual says that a rear sway bar (arb) on a 240z will cause oversteer, loose rear end.
  12. 29 spline lsd unit for a r200 diff. Anyone know where I can get one???
  13. soak the nuts/threads with pb blaster a couple days before trying to remove them. Yes, the shaft slides right out of the tailpiece of the tranny
  14. I have a 71 240Z with sbc. Rochester Q jet currently on it. What to replace it with??? This is for street driving.
  15. Does it matter where I tap an 1/8" line to a mechanical oil press gauge on a permacool unit? The block adapter, the filter end, or tee off of the supply or return hose???
  16. On my 71 240: Replaced the rear control arm bushings with msa polyurethane and now have pos camber and toe in. What is the best approach? Adjustible bushings or performance camber Kit?
  17. What is it? Where can it be purchased?
  18. In a 71 240. Is it likely to be the window register or the door lock mechanism? Or both? Anyone with experience here? I hate this sound and want to fix it. Restoring your Datsun Z car brieflly mentions the removal procedure but I would like to hear from someone with experience in this area. Thanks.
  19. The JTR manual recommends wrapping some plastic coated cable around the diff. mount. Is this common practice? Has anyone done this and does it help with vibration issues? Seems a little cheesy.
  20. Will the nissan unit and gauge work with the sbc set-up? How do I test the sending unit to make sure it is working properly. I don't want to replace things willy nilly with out knowing for sure that the part is bad. Also, are there alternative locations where I can install a mechanical oil pressure gauge? Don't want to blow up a good engine. Know what I mean? Thanks.
  21. Just bought the car and the oil pressure gauge is not hooked up. Is it easier/better to use the stock 240 Z gauge or install a new one? Thanks for your help
  22. 71 240 Z with chevy 350. Radiator is leaking. Is repair a reliable solution or a new radiator better choice?
