thought i would start one for my early 260z
xxxpatsabxxx replied to xxxpatsabxxx's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
well i didnt get nearly as much done as i wanted to, but none the less i still managed to get some stuff done. i sanded my headers and prepped them for paint which will happen tomorrow. took acetone to all my trim and windows to get paint and tape residue off from when the car was painted. and i tried to paint and prep some parts of my engine bay. my brother was kinda pushing me to paint while the headers and intake are out, but being sort of a perfectionist, i would like to rip the engine out and strip the bay of everything before painting both the block and engine bay. (my brother loves cutting corners.) so he sprayed part of my engine bay anyways. Do you think i should continue??? bad paint starting to rust tried using this ... got nowhere did this with a flat head screwdriver -
so im not exactly new here but i do have a 260z as my project car... heres the link to my car domain... http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3349288/1 im going to start posting here first instead of there. well my project has been going along at a snail's pace, but thats because im in high school and jobless. but now that im graduating it kinda sparked me to get the car into shape so i can have something to take to college. so, ive been trying to put in as much time and money into it as possible and things are starting to take shape. ill get some pictures up on here as soon as i find the time

looks great.

well im a pretty good welder so the modifications to the y pipe should be pretty easy. one of my main incentives of not going true duals is the fact that the twice pipes start at a single collector... if i were to go true duals i would have to chop the y on the pipes and get new collectors from summit racing.... thanks for the input guys...
-
yea i think im going with the twice pipe setup from the site. i did alot of research and found that building a copy of or something close to their design would cost the same or slightly more. I guess if it's too loud i can just put some resonators under the drive line like. .. this http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=29239&d=1239218065 now i need to decide whether or not i should go true duals or buy the Y pipe...

260z weber carb HIGH idle
xxxpatsabxxx replied to xxxpatsabxxx's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
so my fuel pressure regulator came in and i got it installed. the carbs have a more consistent reaction but the idle is still ridiculously loud. another thing i noticed today was the chokes MUST be closed for the car to continue to run, as soon as the manual choke lever moves the slightest bit forward the engine dies. soooo.... i guess i have a vacuum leak somewhere or i need to start back at square 1 and do a complete teardown and reinstallatiion of everything to make sure all gaskets are sealing. -
gosh... now im stuck in a rut... most of the twice pipe threads have positive reviews towards MSA and their products, but surface corrosion on a new product is something i may not want to risk out of the box. ive been doing some shopping around and the muffler shops around here and they charge around 150 for just just a single pipe all the way back. =| ive got a bunch of flowmaster 40's laying around but im not sure how 2 of them would sound on the car. im going to call MSA today and ask them a bunch of questions.

hey everyone ive been searching for a new exhaust setup (because i got some second hand msa headers)but since they were second hand, the setup was missing the 2 into 1 collector. http://www.thezstore.com/store/graphics/00000001/group156002.jpg so right now it is just the headers. i was wondering if i should go for the twice pipes or some other setup. i was thinking twice pipes because the reviews say they're great, but alittle on the loud side. and from the design it looks straight forward except for the initial single inlet on the twice pipes. i was thinking i could just chop the collector on the twice pipes and go for a true dual exhaust setup or should i try and track down or order the header collector? as for now im stuck in exhaust limbo and i could really use the help of those with exhaust experience thanks.

Rebuilding 240z Gauges to Work with 280z Harness
xxxpatsabxxx replied to ModernS30's topic in Interior
should be stickied when pics come along.... -
preferrably exiting both sides... or something like http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=33172 where they empty in the same area but come from 6-2 headers.

preferably twice pipes. needs to fit early 260z. any dual exhaust setup will do. Located in Socal

260z weber carb HIGH idle
xxxpatsabxxx replied to xxxpatsabxxx's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
well i've got a vacuum tester, tried it out, but it isnt far from the "normal engine" vacuum. ill try to take some pics of the tester in action tomorrow. -
Hey everyone ive recently rebuilt my weber dgv setup and the car doesnt idle well at all, ive tried adjusting the idle air screws and the air mixture screws but nothing seems to work. the car starts at an extremely high RPM (my tach doesnt work) but the car dies or drops to extremely LOW RPM when put into reverse/drive. any help will be great, ive been reading up but havent found anything. hours of work but no progress. - PatSab

wow, great link. im going to pull my carbs off soon and put em on the classifieds to see if anyone would want to trade or if i can get a few bucks out of em. i might be able to rebuild them myself, but my brother is the carb expert (usually v8 4 barrels) but if i get an SU video i think i can manage.
-
i was looking around at causes of backfires and the explanations that kept coming up were poor fuel to air ratios. this led me to research rebuild kits for the weber dgv's and it got me wondering whether or not i should just find a set of Su's instead.

hey everyone, im not a new 260z owner but the problems my car are having are new to me. im not 100% sure about the problem which is why ive turned to asking those who know the l series engines better than i do. i recently put in a new exhaust system and replaced old gaskets so i had to take everything off of the motor (dual webber carbs, intake manifold, exhaust manifolds) i put everything back on and the car ran great for a few days. but then a rough idle developed, constant smoke even after warming, and flames out of the exhaust pipe when sitting in the drive way. the car will have high rpms when in park but as soon as i put it into drive or reverse the rpms drop severely and sometimes the car even dies. i replaced the plugs and within 2 days the plug in cylinder 3 was blackened which leads me to the conclusion that i have bad valve seals (or valve problems) .... but this is where im not sure completely... if i could get another persons opinion on the problem it would be much appreciated. - PatSab

i have a ealry 260z and im on the fence between taking the smog stuff and leaving it off. it seems like none of my smog stuff is even connected to anything electrically related. correct me if im wrong but i followed almost everything smog related and all it seems to do is cycle exhaust air with clean air... tubes leading from intake manifold to exhaust... if i weld some of the basic stuff shut and leave the vacuum related components intact there shouldn't be any major changes right?

well you can do a combo, let the car sit in death valley ford a few weeks then hit it with the aircraft remover. =D well i did the aircraft remover on my dads 1970 delta 88 and im starting to do it on my brothers 1966 ford mustang, but it can get very very tedious, i found my remover at autozone, they usually have 2 kinds, the Klean Strip and the Rustoleum, ive never tried the Rusto but this process takes ages if there is more than 2 coats, and it burns when it gets on your skin, so if you plan on doing this, wear thick gloves and a jumpsuit, or keep a bucket of water ready. but neways, those rims are bad ass, holy crap man, with those tires can you say sticky? hahahhahaha -

great thread. sooo many Zs. lol and lots and lots of cash. that aircraft stripper can really do work on the older original paint. its alot easier and quieter than busting out the sanders. good luck to ya cant wait to see where this goes -

wow, i was thinking about getting one too but now a dash mat seems like the better deal. ill try to fix the massive cracks in my dash first tho. -
