  1. Thanks leon, it was an issue with the needle, it must have gotten bent on my workbench.
  2. i think it might be a combo of the needle size the PO had installed and the new nozzles i ordered from MSA...
  3. Hey everyone, I'm having trouble with my 2nd hand 1971 4 screw SU carbs that I am in the process of rebuilding. They are not yet installed and are currently on my bench. The Problem The piston ends up freezing in position when I install it into the carb body and screw on the Bell chamber. It stays closed the worst in the closed position but also stay in the open position when it does get moved. But When i place the piston into either the chamber OR the body, it moves freely. Being the guy that I am, I decided to eliminate as many problems as possible so I swapped components (piston, chamber/dome, nozzle, needle) from the front and rear carbs and the problem persisted on only the front carb. With as many SU carb owners that there are, someone has to have encountered this problem. If not, I'd love a helping hand on troubleshooting. - So gentlemen, What problems can there be and how can i fix them? - I was thinking it could be the nozzle (but i had that replaced) - Maybe my jet retaining nut is bad? - Warped carb body? - Possibly oversized needle? - Needle offset. (but works with other carb body?) Thanks for your time, PatSab
  4. Hi, I'm looking to buy a 4 barrel intake manifold from either AZC or the Clifford made intake sold by MSA. OR post some offers on SU round tops. Thanks for dropping by! PatSab
  5. hey challenger thanks for the quick reply. im in my car right now with my multimeter and my laptop but im struggling to follow the FSM, the page is hard to read and there are alot of symbols that i am unfamiliar with. i have a basic understanding of how vehicle electrical systems work but this is a real challenge. I'll keep on it and let you know if i make any progress!
  6. Hey guys, I have an early 74 260z and i cant get my turn signals to work. When i turn on the hazards both lights work. -replaced the flasher units and both work when placed in the hazard connector -already checked all of my fuses and they are all in working condition -took apart the combination switch, cleaned, and reassembled -cleaned connectors with connector cleaner (aerosol version) any help would be appreciated! Maybe I'm missing something really simple that you guys could point out.
  7. Hey octo, thought i would drop by your thread and check out the progress. good work man, i'm glad to see that things are moving forward!
  8. sorry i meant to put 3 speed auto. lol typo
  9. great build, i cant wait to hear your verdict on the 4bbl. You're keeping this build reallly clean! good work
  10. Well, I was in the same boat as you with the dual dgv vs. SU. I did A LOT of digging and what it pretty much boils down to, is the ease of rebuilding SUs back to near perfect conditions and or tuning them to desired specifications. DGVs on the other hand are real pains when it comes to tuning and jetting to get the results you're looking for. Maybe its just my experience with a bad set of dgvs but I'm always struggling to get more out of my carbs. I tried tuning with colortune, the smell and listen test and switching jets but it's just tough work. On my trip from San Diego to Monterey Bay, I averaged 16 MPG going 65 w/ a 4 speed auto. Ive done this trip around 5 times and logged each fill up and calculated the mileage.
  11. hey octo, your car has come a long way. post up some new info, i cant wait to see that new engine in.
  12. thanks for looking and finding links guys. still waiting to hear back from the previous posters tho.
  13. still waiting for more information and pics from previous posters, still interested.
  14. thanks! yea well when u get home just send me some pics. does it run well with a 2bbl? seems like it would run a bit rough? anyways, will be expecting those pictures on the weekend.
  15. thanks a ton challenger, sent him an email and hopefully he gives me a deal.
  16. hey guys looking for a 4 bbl intake manifold with or without carb, located in southern california, but if you arent we can discuss shipping. -PS
  17. i took a day to just polish them with Mother's Mag Polish but im going to redo them soon and paint the area between the webs black. yea they do look really good but up close you can see some damage from the previous owner.
  18. new floats from carbs unlimited. car runs better with them but i still need to dial everything in.
  19. so the passenger side managed to take me a whole 5 mins... and i am very happy with the results that i got from the 2 doors, here is the link again to the JCwhitney felt channel http://www.jcwhitney.com/all-rubber-window-channels/p2009944.jcwx its style number 26 but i also read that style 21 also works. if you guys find what im doing helpful, just drop me a line... im just a kid trying to do whatever i can on my car, im 17 and fresh out of high school and i have a deep passion for all classic cars but the datsun family has grown on me, but because im fresh out of high school im almost out of money, and when that happens work cant get done... but i know that as long as i keep a goal in mind time doesnt matter, i just want to learn as much as i can and carry that information with me into my future and help others along the way, so do the world a favor guys and try to pass on what you know to others and help out those around you. the amount of information that each member has on this site is an untapped well of knowledge. if you see anything that im doing right or wrong dont be afraid to say something. sorry about this rant but i just thought i should jot it down, working on my z is something i love and thoughts like these always run through my head... -PatSab
  20. MUAH-HA-HA-HA THE FELT CHANNEL STRIP WORKS!!!! ... now that i got that out. the overall process to get to the installation is kind of tedious. i got the strips today when i woke up and they seemed like they would work perfectly. you have to unbolt 5 visible door bolts, take off you door panel and remove 3 more bolts, then pull and wiggle the chrome channel out without breaking anything inside the door. when you get it out, you have to take a flathead screwdriver to remove all of the old felt strip. do not test fit, when the strip is in it is difficult to remove without damaging the material use acetone or any cleaner to clean the channel itself and prep it for adhesive and the new material. MAKE SURE TO CUT 45 DEGREE ANGLES FOR THE RIGHT ANGLE IN THE CHANNEL THIS IS WHERE YOU WILL START INSTALLING!!!! put a solid bead of adhesive in the channel and press the strip in firmly. cut before reaching the bolt threaded holes one 6 foot strip fits the door WITHOUT EXCESS. i was surprised... it took me all the way to the end i need to find the rubber strip the goes on the door trim the inside fuzzy stripping is in really bad shape
  21. SOUNDS GREAT! those gauges are amazing. good work.
  22. yea mine took a dump this week too. im thinking about one of these two to replace the rear original fuel pump, most likely the 4-7 because i have a decent fuel pressure regulator and its within the suggested range for my weber dgv carbs. its a little pricey for something simple but im sure it will do the job shouldnt be too hard of an install either. hope we are talking about the same fuel pump.... http://www.autozone.com/autozone/catalog/accessories/accProductDetails.jsp?itemIdentifier=732036_0_0_&skuDescription=Mr.Gasket+/+2to3.5PSI42GPHelectricfuelpumpforimportcarburetors&brandName=Mr.Gasket&displayName=2to3.5PSI42GPHelectricfuelpumpforimportcarburetors&skuDisplayName=Mr.Gasket&categoryNValue=10099999&navValue=100501&categoryDisplayName=2to3.5PSI42GPHelectricfuelpumpforimportcarburetors&parentId=00-10&itemId=501-10&store=5561&productId=732036 http://www.autozone.com/autozone/catalog/accessories/accProductDetails.jsp?counter=6&categoryDisplayName=Performance&fromString=search&itemIdentifier=732035_0_0_&productId=732035&sortType=&parentId=8-10&filterByKeyWord=fuel+pump&categoryNValue=100008&navValue=100501&fromWhere=&itemId=501-10&displayName=4+to+7+PSI+35+GPH+electric+fuel+pump+for+domestic+carburetors&store=5561&skuDisplayName=4+to+7+PSI+35+GPH+electric+fuel+pump+for+domestic+carburetors&brandName=Mr.+Gasket
