My Car is FINALLY painted!!!! Lots-O-Pics
StrokinIT replied to Rimal310's topic in Body Kits & Paint
Wow, that paint job looks awesome. I really like the way the rims and paintjob work together. What rims are those by the way, and what size are they? -
Starter going "click" even with new battery

We didn't think to listen for the fuel pump. I've already left my house and am back at school but I'll have my dad try and start it again and listen for the pump. -
Starter going "click" even with new battery
StrokinIT replied to rskdsk's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
I was having that problem yesterday after we re-installed the gas tank. We ended up cleaning all the terminals and it still wouldn't engage the starter, just the solenoid. So we checked it by connecting it to the truck battery with jumpers and it worked fine. So we replaced the battery and it will now turn over but the car won't start. We think that it has something to do with the fuel pump or something since the car started up and ran fine before the gas tank came off. Does anyone have any ideas on what it might be? -
Thanks HB280ZT, that really does help out alot. I guess I'll try and sell the one I have now and see if I can snag an L28et with 5 speed since I'm planning for that turbo swap anyways. That just seems like too expensive for me since I know nothing about transmissions. Thanks again.

So I bought a T5, the guy told me it was out of an 80s mustang or camaro. Anyways, I have just been told that this transmission won't work on my L28, but no reason was given. I am curious about this. I did some reading and searching, and the only thing I could think of would be the input shaft is a different size? My question is: Will this transmission work with my L28? If not, what would need to be changed? Thanks.
-
why not? were there different types of t-5 transmissions? If so, what is different between the t-5 out of the mustang that I have, and a the datsun t-5s?
-
I have a T-5 off an 80's mustang, am I correct in that the bell housing from that won't fit my L28? If so, I need a T-5 bell housing for an L28 as well if anyone still has one... Thanks

i actually found that post when i searched. I think my question is more basic than most people normally think of. What sort of wear on the splines is 'normal' and what is a definate warning sign when you open one of these babys up?

hey guys, I'm picking up a 3.9 R200 on friday. He said he had taken it apart to make sure it's kosher, and would let me look at it myself before i pay for it. Anything important to look for to make sure it really is decent so I'm not throwing money away? Thanks

You could use a keypad mounted under the dash where you would have to type in your code to allow the engine to start. 3 wrong guesses and all the doors lock and a cheap phone hidden comes on over the radio similar to onstar, and either program it to call your cell phone or 911. -

Wow, jt1, that was exactly what i was looking for. thanks so much for the info!

Maybe the title of the post is a little misleading, I guess the main focus I'm going for is the actual building of the motor itself and not so much on things such as installation or exhaust.

I plan on keeping the engine build itself under $3,000. I also want to build it over my winter break, so basically during the month of January. And I understand I'll need more parts than the parts I linked to before, but since those parts are generally the more important ones to get right to make the sort of power that your looking for that's why I asked for opinions on them. I think the 600cfm carb might not be up to the task of making 350+ hp from a 383. Do you think a 750cfm will flow enough?

i already have a t5 transmission in good shape

So I just went on to summit racing to price out some parts. What do you folks think about what I picked? Good stuff or should I be looking for something different? Hey guys, I'm planning on building up a SBC for my Z this winter and I'm trying to get it all planned out ahead of time before I dive into anything. I feel that I know a decent amount about engines, but I'm by no means an expert and this will be my first engine build, actually my first time really doing anything to any sort of engine. Yes I realize this is quite ambitious but if your gonna start somewhere why not start with something practical. I'm also taking an engines course in college right now so by the time I start the build I'll have some more knowledge. Anyways, before I bore you all to death, I'll get to the point. In the end I'm interested in making between 300-350 hp, maybe more if I go with the 383 but definately keeping it under 400. That being said, my brother has a block and crank set up for a 383 that he got from his friend. He said I could have it for about $200, but I've been looking on craigslist for more complete motors so I wouldn't have to buy as many parts. 1. If a motor needs to be rebuilt, do I necessarily have to replace all the parts? Or can a motor just be put back together with the same parts? 2. Would it just be cheaper to start with my brothers 383 block and build that up than to start with some guys old engine that I'd need to take apart and rebuild completely? I do understand that you don't want to go towards the cheap side on an engine build and if parts need to be replaced I will replace them. The thing I'm unsure about is what necessarily needs to be replaced. I appreciate your input and for putting up with my somewhat noob-ish questions. Thanks, Josh

Exhaust - Monza kit vs. MSA premium kit
StrokinIT replied to jnonni99's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
i have a stock 76 280z and it came with the MSA headers and exhaust when i bought it. it sounded nice and throaty. but i replaced it with the monza kit because of how bad the MSA stuff was rusting away (i live in NH so it might rust more than where you guys live) and the monza exhaust sounds crazy good. i would compare the MSA exhaust to a muscle car sound and the monza exhaust to a ferrari sound. hope this helps -
Hey guys, I'm picking up my new T5 transmission on friday, it came out of an 84 camaro, and I need to know if that bellhousing will fit my L28? I'm thinking that it won't, but in the offchance that it will, I'd like to know. Also, if it won't fit, does anyone know where I can pick one up? Or will my stock bellhousing on my 76 4-speed fit? Thanks so much, Josh

Hey guys, I have a 76 280z that ive been working on with my dad for about 2 years now, we havent really gotten that serious about it until now. The only problem is neither of us are very mechanically inclined, nor is anyone in our family. But i've done some research and figured out some things but the reason im posting this is i still have a few questions im hoping you guys and gals can shed some light on. I plan on stroking my L28 to 3.1 or 3.2 liters, i havent decided which yet. I also have the N42 heads, just purchased a borg warner t5 transmission, stock fuel injection stuff, and have a monza/pacesetter exhaust system. 1. heads- what does it mean to get them ported and polished? What purpose does this serve? since im basically rebuilding the motor by stroking it, would it make sense to port and polish my heads? 2. fuel injection- i really dont know much about this, should i be looking at new injectors or any of that stuff? or a programmer like megasquirt or something? 3. exhaust- i think the system i have is 2", is that gonna be too small for all the power i hope to be making once this is all said and done? 4. transmssion- the bellhousing from the transmission, which came out of a 84 camaro i believe, wont fit my l28 correct? Anyone know where i can pick up a bellhousing for this tranny and my engine? i just got home from work so im a little tired, but i think thats all the questions i can think of. so thank you everyone for taking a look at this and giving me your opinions, information, anything really. also if you guys that have done this before, if you have any pointers, i would appreciate anything you guys have to say. Thanks, Josh
