    EFI: megasquirt

The alfa TB is not a direct fit. not by a long shot. The reason I mentioned them is because they are BIG. And they are of a simple built. No emission stuf on there and no idle air. So they are a perfect candidate for some custom work. I am aiming for about 170HP NA with my 260. This shouldn't be to hard. I have at the moment a 2.5 inch exhaust with a dynomax turbo muffler. This system is possibly to big for the Na engine but it was bought with a turbo swap in mind.
  2. To make things a little more difficult. You should also keep in mind that the voltage in the sparkplug leads is very high. like more than 30.000 Volts. This kind of voltage has very different properties then your basic 12 volt system. Coper core wires have very little resistance (near zero Ohms). The resistance of a supression lead is a lot higher. does this mean that the spark gets less voltage? http://www.magnecor.com/magnecor1/truth.htm This is ofcours one manufacturers opinion but it is good info none the less. If you go IC and bigger injectors then programmable injection is the way to go. Megasquirts is a great system but it has it's limits. SDS is more complete (ignition control). Personally I dont like increasing the fuel pressure. I think bigger injectors is a more ellegant solution. As for Throttlebody's. Here in holland you can find a lot of Alfa Romeo cars at the junkyard. These Have some huge 70mm TB's. You might want to look in to that. Love to hear how it works out.

I updated my site. It now includes a picture of a Pontiac fiero fuel injector modified to fit a datsun fuel rail. http://www.cardomain.com/member_pages/view_page.pl?page_id=325148 xander
  5. I bought my 260Z when it was halfway through a restauration project. So far everything came with the car except the gas filler door. So I went to a guy here in holland who said he had one. I saw him unscrew it from the body of a 2X0Z. And guess what? It doesn't fit on my 260Z. The hinge seams to be to long. And it looks like it should be more tappered (the one I have now is to square). I would like to know when thay changed this so that I can get a good one. If someone has the right one for me I would love to buy it of them. (prefferably a locking one). Thanx Xander

being patient can be really hard. My datsun is parked at my work. So while I'm working I have to walk past it all day. I drives me nuts sometimes

sims what kind of plug wires are you using?. I didn't change anything on the megasquirt and it worked fine. Just get the rpm input from the negative side of the coil. I am also on the SDSEFI list. They often speak of the importance of good suppression wires. somthing to think about? xander

I am using a lot of stuf of a pontiac fiero. This is because I work for a fiero specialist here in holland. I used the sensors, throttlebody and injectors. I modified the 14mm O-ring injectors to work with the barb style rail. I cut of the plastic surround to the metal core. This will allow you too slide a hose over the injector tip and secure it with a hose clamp. I was using a one wire O2 sensor but today I found out that it is placed too far from the engine to get warm enough (it is down below in my MSA header). So I will be using a heated unit. The ignition is stock. The fiero TB has a ported vacuum connection for vacuum advance. The megasquirt is connected to the - of the coil to pick up engine speed. This worked perfectly. xander

IT RUNS!!!!! today I started my 260Z on the megasquirt. It runs soooo nice. It has no exhaust at the moment, just the header (MSA). It rumbles straight through your underbelly, very sexy . now I just have to finish my exhaust (thinking about a dynomax muffler) and some minor electrical stuff to get it on the road. xander
  10. I just built my MS to go on my 260Z. If you just follow the assembly guide at this place you should be fine. http://members.shaw.ca/megasquirt/manual/mass.htm this is what I did. The first thing I soldered was the 37 pin connector. And guess what?? I used the female side which is supposed to go on the stimulator board. I had to desolder 37!!! pins. Also hook up with the mailing list. You can always ask questions there. Xander

You don't have to wait for another group buy. You can order the partial kit from them (pcb, injector drivers, map sensor and programmed ECU) The price is very reasonable and the quality is very high. If you do deside to buy the partial kit. I would strongly sugest that you buy the stimulator board aswell. Then you can check the Megasquirt on your desk at home. Since most of us have the megasquirt ready before the car it is nice to know that everything went well with the soldering and construction. there was a guy on the list who had some installation problems on his BMW but didn't have the stimulator. He could'nt verify if the megasquirt was the problem or something else. good luck Xander

Hi, I am currently working on a mega squirt setup for my 260Z. I already have it soldered but I am having a difficult time getting the right case for the board. As for MAP sensors, It is provided with the unit. Go megasquirt. I think you won't regret it. The system is very well documented ( better than some expensive professional systems I'm told) And there is a mailing list where people are very helpful. I think my system wil be up and running in about a month. So expect to here from me then. Xander
  13. the following page takes a while to load but it's worth it. http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/787B/index.html#ENG http://cp_www.tripod.com/rotary/pg03.htm xander
  14. I am going to answer my own question. You can drill the holes for an injection manifopld into the E88 head. I just went and tried it. I made a guide to drill the holes and drilled them in the head when it was still in the car. This is actually not that hard. The head is made of pretty soft metal. Now my injection intake fits beatifully. Xander
  15. Hi, I am in the process of transforming my 260z to injection. I will be using the Megasquirt system. I bought a manifold from a 280z. The upper holes dont match up with the head. Is it possible to drill extra holes in the head? I seems that nissan allready prepared the block for this. thanks. Xander

    MSA Header

Hi, I just ordered the MSA 6 into 1 header for my 260Z. Any tips or things to look out for when installing it? Xander
  17. What do you mean notches in the intake? I Have never seen a injection manifold for the L series engine.
  18. Hi everyone, I have a simple question. I am going to convert my 260Z with flattop SU's to fuel injection. I am thinking of using the megasquirt or SDS if I can get the money together. Can I just go out and find an intake from a 280Z or do I have to built my own intake? It would be a lot easier if I could just buy the whole lot with injectors and everything. thanks, Xander
  19. this is what i had in mind http://members.chello.nl/x.worrell/injector.jpg This is even cheaper than 50 dollar and can be bought at any hardware store. (no shipping costs to the netherlands).
  20. Hi all, I'm new here and I have a question. Can anyone think of a reason why I can't just solder a fuelrail from household plumbing parts. I was thinking buying a meter of 12 mm tubing and sliding 6 T pieces over it and soldering them in place. I can then drill a hole through the T-piece for the fuel to go trough. Am I making any sense? Xander
  21. hmmm, strange place to post my first message but I just had to get in on this. I am from Amsterdam in the Netherlands And I would like to clarify things a bit. In Amsterdam it is NOT legal to smoke pot. (This is mainly to keep the frenche happy.) It is just that is the police do not enforce home use and small scale selling of canabis. Every week you can read in the papers about a raid on an illegal grower. And you would be amazed at how many plants can be grown on a square foot . That said, most of my friends smoke canabis now and then. And none of them are problematic. The problems many people from abroad hear about are the tourists from places like italy and france and ofcourse the US that come to amsterdam. The come from the airport, get a lot off drugs and lock themselfs in some hotelroom. This is points to another big problem. EDUCATION Here in Amsterdam everyone knows the pro's and con's of drugs. Not just canabis but all drugs: Alcohol, tabaco, XTC, canabis, heroine, cocaine.... We get tought at school at a young age. And yes, there are people who dont know when quit and smoke allday. But still these people are better off than drinking alcohol all day. Alcohol is a lot more destructive than canabis. In the netherlands canabis can be prescribed buy a doctor. People suffering from chronic pain or epelepsy benefit greatly from smoking canabis. I hope all of the above is a bit readable. I do read a lot of english but writing is a lot harder. anyway I probably write better engish than you do dutch so there. and in case you where wondering I also own a '77 260Z. yes '77.
