If I buy an rich/lean indicator now I could always use it later when I've got the money to buy a wideband controller. the gauge is nothing more than a voltmeter with a range of 0 to 1 volt. Most wideband output a voltage of 0 to 5 volts. It should not be to dificult to lower voltage so that I can use the oxygen gauge. I wonder how accurate it would still be I like the gauge by DEFI. they have a analog O2 gauge. really sexy.

I trust my voltmeter so I don't really think I need an ampère meter (that's the guys name ). I can tell from the voltmeter if my battery is charging. And I got a new alternator. maybe I'll do Boost, fuel pressure and O2.

This weekend my car radio was stolen from my 260Z. I will replace it with three gauges. I already have the standard oil pressure, voltmeter, engine temp and fuel level. These work fine so I wont replace them. And I am planning a turbo conversion so I think a boost guage will be one of the three. But what about the other too. I was thinking maybe oil temp and fuel pressure. Or should I buy a EGT gauge? What would you do?

some people should be shot (three times daily) 56K warning
Xander replied to Xander's topic in Non Tech Board
it was a pretty big tournament. 30 teams consisting of three players each. I finished in the last 8 (quatre finals). It was pretty cool because there were also 10 teams from belgium and 1 team from england. It was a great day, except for the break in offcours, thanks for asking. I gonna start a new thread to see if there are more kendoka on this board. -
As some of you may have read in an other thread, my car window on the driver side was smashed. Now I found a guy who has a side window of a '73 240Z. I have a european '77 260Z. this is bassicly a 280Z body with the l26 engine. I was checking in the victoria britisch cataloque and saw that it was a different part number for the two windows. what do you think? can i place the 240Z window in a later model (280Z).

this morning I place an advertisement on a national buy/sell board and this afternone (to my suprise) I was called by a guy who has stripped a 240Z. He will sell me the glass for 35 euro (40 dollar). so my fear that it would be hard to find was ungrounded. I would like to thank 73TPIZ. I think it's awesome that you would give me the glass for free. I really apreciate it. But the shipping costs would be to much. and if it broke on the way over (even if I insured the package) I would still not have a side window. oh by the way. The car is not nearly as clean as it looks in the pictures. I think the camera just likes it. there is a part 2 of this story. today I was at my parents hose to grab some stuff that was still in the car and it was broken into AGAIN. This time they did take the radio and my kendo equipment. this is about 1000 dollars in goods. the insurance will pay a maximum of 250. -
The alternator has a sense wire. If you lower the voltage on this wire than the alternator will try to conpensate and up the voltage. I know this because I converted my externally regulated alternator (in my 260Z) to an internally regulated one. I can adjust the output power with the adjustment of the sense wire. Normally the sense wire is connected to a battery voltage. A diode has a fixed voltage drop of 0.6 volts. If you solder this into the sense wire you can up the battery voltage by 0.6 volts. I believe the alternator can output more than 16 volts without a problem. If the wiring harness is also able to sustain this is an other story.

Someone modified my 260Z today and I'm not really happy with the result. I was competing in a Kendo championship here in amsterdam. Halfway trough the game someone told me my window was smashed in. this is what I found. I think that at that time I was too shocked to get angry. I went back inside and finished my games. But now it is starting to sink in and I am really getting pissed off. They left the radio and I don't mind that they stole my 486 laptop. I can get over that, but replacing the window is gonna be a big problem. These windows are very hard to find here in holland. I am blaming myself for leaving that (very old) laptop in plain view. .Now the hunting for a new windows begins.

I have been runing on megasquirt from april of last year. It's a great piece of equipment. I converted my L26 from flattop hitachi carbs. I used an intake manifold of a 280Z and went from there. As for performance, 170 HP and 27 mpg.

Speed Bleeders... The best product you can buy...
Xander replied to Mikelly's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I believe that they sell the extra sealant in a small bottle for those who regularly bleed the system. -
frank280zxt and I were looking at these cheap mufflers on ebay. You know the kind. Lots of stainless steel and ridiculous diameters. At a price of 20$ I think you cant go wrong. If it splits open in a years time I can just buy a new one at that price. But does anyone have experience with these mufflers? here's an example: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2457025759&category=33636 or even cheaper http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2456377408&category=33636

What's the Highest Ticket You've Gotten Away With?
Xander replied to zeeboost's topic in Non Tech Board
I was going twice the speed limit in a residential zone here in amsterdam. (speed limit is about 31 miles/hour) a cop pulled me over and said he was tailing me all the time. I thought "yeah.. right" since he was driving a VW golf diesel. But I kpt my moulth shut. He noted my name from my drivers licence when sudenly he got called away on an emergency. He gave back my licence and said I could expect a big ticket. But he send the ticket to my sisters, because the car was registered in her name . She was a little pissed off I can tell ya. But because the ticket didn't match properly I heard nothing about it again. 50 km/h over the speed limit means losing your car Here in holland. -
Do they use celsius or fahrenheit in canada? Not that it matters in this case because about the only thing I remember between the two scales is that they cross at -40. And I though We were having problems here in holland. They gave out an official weather warning this evening. apperently we get more 10 cm (4 inches) of snow tonight.

Think Twice About Outrunning These Cops - Pics!

how about these. http://www.lotusespritworld.co.uk/EOtherstuff/PoliceEsprit.html -
I have a european 260Z. The car was bought new here in the netherlands. guess what? 2 grooves and it never had AC. hmm. makes you think what the spare groove was for.
-
The diode you need for shutting the engine off has nothing to do with the diode they measured. There are a couple of diode in the back of the alternator to rectify the AC it produces. If one is busted then the alternator will work but will not put out the power you require. I think you need an alternator rebuild.

It has to do with the resolution of the injection computer. Lets say your computer has a resolution of 0.1 ms (like megasquirt). this means that you can only increase or decrease the injector opening times with 0.1 ms. If you engine needs 1 ms of injection at idle than the smallest correction it can make is 10 %. This can make it difficult to tune your idle mixture So you should not go to big with your injectors.

I had exactly the same setup as you, flattop hitachis on a 260Z. I bought a intake manifold of a 280Z and adapted my block to take the manifold. The studs on the block are in a different position. this is how i did it. Take a large enough piece of hardwood so you can cover it with a 280Z intake gasket. (something like a 2 foot piece of 2x4) With a center punch you can mark the places where the studs should be. Some of them will be in the same place and others will have to be drilled in the head. Now on a drill press drill all the holes in the wood. Take out all the studs from the head that you will not use. Slide the the piece of wood over the remaining studs. If you drilled right the wood will slide in place and and can now be used as a guide to drilling the holes in the head. Because you used a drillpress to drill the wood the holes in the head will be at straight angles. At first i was scared that i might hit a water jacket in the head or something but this is not so. There is enough meat on the head to do this. after you have drilled all the holes you must tap new thread in them. Now for the second part. Fuel injected heads have a little notch cut out of them to allow the fuel spray to hit the back of the valve. You can take an intake gasket from a 280z and use this to mark the places where the notches should be. Now grind out the notches. Be carefull as the head is rather soft aluminium. It looks like a lot of work but I did it in less than a day. Are you going to an aftermarket fuel setup? I went megasquirt and now get about 170 hp from this engine and good milage too (11km on 1 liter, you do the maths ) in the end it doesnt matter what you do as long as you get rid of those flattops. good luck and let us know how it turns out.

With the pertronix you can bypass the ballast resistor on the coil. This (together with an other coil) can increase the output to the sparkplugs. I didn't feel a difference between the points and the pertronix. Although I'm glad I changed them because. This is a typical "install and forget" upgrade. You don't really notice it but you don't have to worry about it either. Also I'm thinking of going megasquirt&spark. It is nice to have a more accurate spark so that the computer timing is better. I replaced my points with the pertronix because I was getting misfires at higher rpms. It turned out to be the injectors being too small. I don't know anything about the crane unit, sorry.
-
I use one inb my megasquirted 1977 260Z. It works perfectly. When I used to time my ignition I could see the timing mark on the pulley jump around. Now with the pertronix it is steady as a rock. Installation is 5 minutes. I got mine from this place. good and fast service. I accidentaly ordered the wrong (low performance) coil. They guy emailed me the next day that he would send the better one if thats ok with me. Great. I like to see vendors that think. http://www.vintageperformance.com/retrorockets/Datsun/nissan.htm

Here in europe you get different flavours. How about: 2850 euro's --> 94' Alfa Romeo 164 3liter V6 24Valve big and beautifull italian sedan 3000 euro's --> 84'Maserati Bi Turbo. runs great, good interior, body needs some work 1200 euro's --> 93'fiat uno 1.4 turbo. very small very light and it just feels mental to drive 3500 euro's --> (I know its to expensive, but...) Jaguar XJS 12 cylinder very good engine exterior needs some work, grey leather interior. 2750 euro's --> Lancia Delta HF Intergrale 4x4 This must be the car that subaru was thinking about when they were building the impreza turbo 1500 euro's --> Peugeot 205 1.9 GTI small light and you can really thow this car around 1250 euro's --> renault 5 GT-turbo also small and light. but very fun Hmmm.... I'm always complaining that in the states cars and parts are a lot cheaper. Maybe I'm half right. Parts here are still expensive.

Vrolijk Kerstfeest en een gelukkig nieuwjaar uit Amsterdam. Winter just refuses to kick in her in holland. Yesterday the first snow fell of this year and today it 10 deg C above freezing. I'm not complaining . I hope everyone will have a save newyear and have lots of cash to spend on the Z's.

Have To Upgrade The Fuel Pump On My L28ET - Recommendations?
Xander replied to slownrusty's topic in Turbo / Supercharger
I'm also using the MSD pump. Works great and is the cheapest. It's not on a turbo engine though. I'm running it on a fuel injected 260Z.
