  1. my car did that when I first did my turbo swap..

check and CLEAN all of the electrical connections with some contact cleaner and try her out...

after 30 years the wires and contacts get all coated in yucky green crap and kills the connections...

  2. Recently my car has been smoking grey/blue BAD upon start up. It starts to smoke after about 2 minutes of warming up and the exhuast pipe is HOT then it burns.... so I assumed some oil was leaking...

I assume this is due to mis-aligned valve guides.. OR oil leaking from the turbo charger and sitting in the exhuast pipe... which I am still trying to source down.

Anyway here are the numbers for my 1978 280Z N47 and N47 head, with that damn turbocharger.. LoL..

my FSM for my 1978 says it should be between 164psi - 178psi so obviously my rings are a bit worn.. but bad enough to require an immediate overhaul?

    Good or Bad?

    Cylinder 1 - 130psi

    Cylinder 2 - 130psi

    Cylinder 3 - 125psi

    Cylinder 4 - 130psi

    Cylinder 5 - 125psi

    Cylinder 6 - 125psi

  3. Just like Tony D said.. you DONT NEED A LAPTOP!! LoL...

Mobythevan (Bryan Mr Kick AS S) uploaded his settings onto my MegaSquirt ECU.. and I drove home with them..

unfortunatly, I don't have a laptop to monitor the settings, or change the fuel or spark maps at any time..

NOW i can.. thanks to Renns (Roger) on the MegaSquirt EFI forums, who wrote a program for the Palm OS, and I used my Sony Clie PDA.

There is a real time display, I can log it, and I can change the fuel and spark maps!! How cool is this!

  4. well rebuilds can cost as much as $250.. as a new turbo which is actually decent and not a cheapo eBay special will cost around $500...

depends on what kind of power you are looking for.. and street driveability or track?!

  5. Ok.. after finally getting everything tuned out perfectly with my car..

NOW it smokes once it warms up.... when i start it, the car runs fine and no smoke, then after driving for a bit and the exhuast is warmed up, it smokes.. white/blue smoke.. BAD... then goes away...

my assumption is there is oil coming out of the turbo on shut down, and sits inside the exhuast pipe. Then when I start the car up again and the exhuast warms up it burns.. hence the smoke..

I checked the intercooler piping and no oil residue or anything so i'm not sure if its a bad turbo oil seal or what?!?

    Help me!!
