So doing this requires modding the pedal assembly as well? I guess I figured that you could use the rod that sticks through the firewall. Obviously disconnecting and discarding the bell crank and solid linkage assembly.
-
I searched and looked in the FAQ but couldn't find what I needed. I was just wondering if anyone has (or knows of) a write-up, maybe with pictures, of the solid linkage being converted to a throttle cable assembly (probably using a 240 SX TB)? I know it's not rocket science and I can probably figure out how to do it anyway, but the more info the better. thanks, -Adam

Can someone tell me why a relay kit from painless wiring runs 120 bucks (part no. 30815)? I haven't bought one yet but I saw that price and thought there must be something more resonable. Glad I saw this thread.

Yeah, you're right Kevin. I ordered a new dryer after I made this post. Just need to figure out the compressor issue now.
-
71-Do you know if the bracket mounts it at the passenger or driver side? It would be nice to keep it on the drivers side (oem) if possible. thanks

Well, I'm getting my feet wet on the A/C thing. Since my dash is out I figured it would be a good idea to get all the components ready. I'm using a mish-mash of parts from All Z East here in Ft. Worth. I like the idea of using the stock 280 evap. unit so I can keep everything nice and tidy inside the dash. I'll replace the compressor and probably the dryer and clean out the remaining used pieces. That seems like a good starting point. I'll get my 609 certification and use R-12. So I'm seeing alot of people talking up the Sanden 508 and it sounds like a good compressor to use except that it doesn't match the stock Hitachi mounting points. So, my question is what has to be done to make it work. Is there a readily available bracket or will I have to custom fab something? I looked in the archives but most of the posts involved mounting to a v-8. appreciate the help, -Adam

Well, I tested it last night, and it's working fine. Did the hot water/freezer trick. A different question: What should you put on the fitting threads to seal them? Something analagous to pipe dope or teflon tape when putting gas lines together. thanks again

I don't know Dan, the Victoria British catalog sells them for $120. That seems way steep. MSA doesn't list them at all.

Ok, with my dash out for the time being I am taking the opportunity to install A/C. I'm using a 75 280 unit so that it will be factory (stock switches, evaporator under the dash...ect). Anyway, my evaporator and housing looks pretty good, but I found out that sometimes the expansion valves (in general) can get dirty or corroded and not work very well or even fail. Anyway, I don't even know if this is something to worry about, but I thought it might not be a bad idea to unscrew the hard lines and spray some B-12 in there. Bad idea/good idea....any thoughts?

Booty, look at this website: http://www.zzxdatsun.com/ go to "soft trim" and you will see leather seat covers. They are $600 a pair.

Excellent. You know, I didn't do this because I couldn't think of anything I needed, but they can put anything you want in the dash. I mean, if you want an extra port for something (cruise control button, 12V outlet, speaker hole ect...) they can do it. Are you considering that? That would pretty neat. A one time opportunity!

Posted this on zcar, thought you guys might find it interesting as well: I've seen a couple of posts concerning dash options lately, so it seemed appropriate to post. Well, it took three months (they told me two), but yesterday it finally came in. It looks pretty damn good, as it should for $800, not including glove box door (additional $80). I was planning on taking pictures, but I don't really think it's necessary. It just looks like a new dash, nothing more. FWIW, I probably could have found a new dash if I really tried for a little cheaper, but I decided to spend the additional money because I feel like the superior materials will provide a better long term solution. I had a dash cap on for years, but I was never really pleased with it. Anyway, nothing groundbreaking, but for those considering using just dashes I certainly can't complain. Just plan on three months...lol.

Fly-I don't know who you talked to at Courtesy, but they told me that their kit works for a 74 (maybe it has some changes specifically for the 74). I talked to Bruce, by the way.

Allright, I'm bumping this to the top. Just curious if anyone has made any progress?

Well, if you want a streetable, "real world" V-12, why not a BMW or Mercedes? That's as realistic as anything else. What is that cool BMW? The 850 CIA? Just pull that 5.0 V-12 with the 6-speed gearbox and voila...lol!

There was a thread recently on zcar about using the head from the six cylinder used in the mercedes 280 SEL from the mid seventies. It is a crossflow/double overhead cam head. Of course, as we all know, the L engine is based on the MB straight six. Several guys seemed to think there was some potential there.

I couldn't find anything specifically addressing this issue. I have recently purchased euro bumpers and 70-72 mounting brackets (front and rear). So, the other day I am working under the front of the car on something unrelated when I start to notice something that concerns me: I can't see how the front bumper mounts bolt to the body. The shock mounts on there now have three bolts all kind of "offset" (for lack of a batter term), but the 70-72 mounts have two bolt holes in a line. I start looking for a place on the car where two bolts should be and can't find anything. Can somebody tell me what is going on here? Have I made a big mistake? I had to have these bumpers ordered directly from Japan, so it's not like I have a choice but to use them. thanks, -Adam

I need to replace all the vent hoses on my 74. They aren't available new anymore, of course, so I was wondering what you guys use? thanks, -Adam

Oh, just giving you a hard time. You know how peoples' perception of Texans are sometimes. Yeah, I know the area you're talking about. I hope you didn't live to close to Love Field. I live off of lower Greenville in the overpriced district. As far as your question, the only place I can think of that has carhops is Sonic.

Yes. We also ride horses to work, wear cowboy hats, carry colt 45's, eat biscuits and gravy three times a day, and everybody has outhouses p.s. yee-haw!

I was talking to Steve Ehlers at Rising Sun Performance in Ft. Worth about bigger throttle bodies. He is basically of the opinion that the TWM TB is inferior to the Webber TB that it is a copy of (and no longer available). According to him, the TWM copy "sticks" off of idle. For those who don't know, Steve is a real perfectionist ("if it isn't done perfect, it's wrong"). A good quality for someone working on your car, but when giving advice can lead to unrealistic expectations. Anyway, for those that use the TWM, are you satisfied with it? Any problems? I would like to retain the stock linkage, so this is really my only alternative (that I know of). thanks, -Adam

"Oh, and you'd have been better off posting this in the EFI forum anyway, though the chevy forum might get the most traffic, I don't think any of these V8 guys are running the SDS." True, but I knew Phantom lives in Arlington and I figured he would respond...lol. Thanks for the help. I'm going to go home and start reading those install instructions.
-
Thanks Phantom, but I already talked to Ross at SDS and he said he didn't know of anyone in the area. That is really surprising, but there ya go. I think I could probably figure it out if I had a gun to my head (any takers? ha ha ha). The thing I really don't feel comfortable with is installing the magnets in the crank pulley and mounting the pickup. Don't you have to drill into the block to do that? ***shudder*** Well, I just printed out the instructions for the EM4-4F. Maybe after reading them I will feel a little less intimidated. My plan is to have Jerry over at all Z east do the EFI conversion (early 74) with stock components just to get the "physical" stuff working, then do the aftermarket management at a later time. The engine is a modified stroker so I don't how well it will run on the stock ECU. Well, I'm rambling. Any other advice would be welcome:-) -Adam
-
I apologize for putting this is on the wrong board, but this gets the most traffic. I am just wondering if there is anyone in the metroplex that has experience installing SDS management systems. Alamo autosports in Arlington carries autotronic, I believe. Of course, they don't reccommend SDS (gee, what a surprise...lol). Anyway, appreciate the help. -Adam

benjlv, Are those the same connectors that MSA sells as an aftermarket part? They are on page 69 if you have their catalog and cost $12.95 apiece.
