My mate ran a 3.36 with my old Skyline 33T. He's got the slip to prove it too. A plastic bag was blown across the track which set the sensor off. I was there to see it too. In Sydney we are finally getting a proper drag track built. Won't have to use the concaved half drag prepared track that runs onto the circuit anymore. It should be ready by the end of this year and will go a long way in keeping the young from racing on the streets. There's a Australia vs USA event scheduled for early next year too which should be interesting. Bring on the smell of rubber.

Ok, so I need psychiatric help. It's not the end of the world. Most guys in their mid twenties would dream about having sex with some hot babe or maybe even two or three at the same time. Me. Two nights ago I dreamt about my wipers working in two speeds and working fast like they would on a new car.

G'day Spiirit This tuner is a really nice guy. Just the other day I went around to his workshop and after he'd finished there was around 7 people sitting around and some were telling stories. Some of the stuff that he's done in his life is enough to excite and inspire anybody. I'm going interstate today to sell my original Z (wish I could have kept it as it was in great shape) so I'd better make this quick. I have not overreved it yet as I've not had the opportunity and had I had the opportunity I still would have been kind to it. It's still unregistered so I'm only, by law, allowed to drive it to the mechanics and back. I'd hate to have it impounded before I have some fun with it. I certainly hope the cam is not shot. It's only 9500km old. The car has not seen much of the road since being built. Thes two previous owners sold it out of lack of time to enjoy it more than anything. The previous owner used it for track work and was frustrated at the not so high power levels. As I said before, all signs point to more power which is not their so I think you might be right about it being out of tune. A friend of mine who came up to look at it and had a go in the passenger seat was also dissapointed at the power it put down. Yes it has headers and dual exhaust. Oh, and it's got 50 thou overbore so it's a 355. I'll stop throwing numbers and specs around now until I have the complete story. The previous owner has the spec sheet so now I'm just waiting for his e-mail. Cheers

It's a Supra 5 speed box hooked up to a 350 chev making slightly above standard power. Once it reaches 4000rpm the box starts to vibrate but not that violently. Past 4700 the vibration stops. This is in second gear. Haven't had time to test other gears. The mounts are eurethane. Anything to worry about? I wouldn't normally be worried but it only does it in that rev range which seems weird to me. Cheers George

I wish it was a tiger I was holding by the tail. It's making around 290rwhp and all signs point to even more power which is not there. I think it's out of tune is all. I spoke to the person that originally built this car and engine and he doesn't recall everything but he did tell me that all internals have been improved/reinforced. Says the cam is an Isky 262H but can't be sure. He did have a spec sheet written up which he gave to the previous owner. I'm trying to get a copy of it now. Should clear things up a bit. btw, this car was built with track in mind and has always been tuned as such. Re the tuner. When he made that comment I think he was implying for street purposes. I didn't tell him my intentions or any history so he was just making an observation without knowing it's meant to be race tuned. This guy builds 9 second engines on a regular basis, comes very highly recommended so I'll trust him with it. Just hope my wallet is fat enough at the end of the day. Let me find out some more info onthe engine and I'd love to see what you have to say. And that blap blap noise you mentioned , it makes that but not as severe as some other 350's I've heard. It is pretty lumpy though. Cheers George oh, one last thing. The mechanic did also say that the engine doesn't pick up and drop off revs quickly enough for the cylinder compression it has. *shrugs*

I picked my car up today and after 5 days & AU$180 later the wipers work but only in one speed. I have no idea what I paid them for. I told the electrician that if the car doesn't pass registration I'll be going back to them so that they can do the job right. I don't really care if the wipers work or not, just want to pass registration. So, rain ex was it. Would the motor of a 280 be interchangable?

btw, sorry to the mods if this is the wrong section for this thread. Please move it if necessary. Cheers

Do some of you use race fuel on the Street? When I say race fuel I mean something within reason and within law. Basically I'm asking because the car that I've just bought is tuned at 10.8:1 compression, Cylinder comp test done and all 8 came up 195-200 psi. The previous owner used pump fuel at 98RON (max available) and an octane booster which probably doesn't help much. In fact, I've heard that it does damage when using it all the time. Is this true? So anyway, I wanted to use a street legal unleaded race fuel and where I'm from (Australia) we have some of the more popular race fuels but obviously not all. From the quick research I've done I can get my hands on Elf, Sunoco and VP. Which fuel is the better to use and at what RON rating should I aim for? I guess that'll ultimately come down to my mechanic but I'd love to hear your opinions from the limited information I've provided. Cheers George

The government that's who. Try passing your car for registration over my way without working wipers btw, my car is stil at the electricians, they've redone some of my wiring as it was getting stripped at one point. they will start work on the wipers Monday morning so I'll let you guys know how it goes. cheers

Good work. As Mudge said, the way you accentuated the rear qtr makes it look more aggresive. I like the taller skirts and the lights are a big improvement. The door and the front qtr need work to blend them in with the rest of the photo.

Dragspeed, it all comes down to how much money you have and how much time you can spare. I think the wise thing to do would be what sb400z said, buy someones blood sweat and tears and spend all the money you saved on customising your car the way you like it. You'll come out on top everytime if you select the correct modified car. But I'm a bit biased as I've done this on a couple of occasions and both times I saved lots (and I mean lots) of money while getting the enjoyment of driving the car now and not two to three years down the track. Whatever you do, goodluck and have a ball.

Cheers guys. I've had it at the mechanics yesterday and today and they were pretty impressed with my find too. A couple of problems though. The tappets and the left exhaust manifold gasket needs attention. No biggie I guess. Jim P, I like the steering wheel where it is thanks btw, it does have a roll cage but it's only a bolt on unfortunately.

My one works in only one speed. Slow. Seeing as how I need to register the car and our laws state we need two speeds I am taking my car to an electrician today. I'll let you know what the outcome is. I would prefer to swap the motor for a faster one.

I know, I'm trying to fix them, sorry but as Tim said you can drag them in the address bar. Thanks for that Tim. Cheers guys. I was thinking about going back to chrome trim but the blacked out look is growing on me. The side mirrors have to go for one and there are a few stone chips that need attention. Not too crash hot on the front bumper bar but who knows, it might grow on me as well. I'm also seeing some stress cracks in the paintwork around the pillars and one on the top of the hatch. Is this anything to worry about? The engine is solidly mounted but I'll be looking at changing that soon. Is this the cause of the cracks? Those are not mini street flares from MSA. It's just been lipped to fit bigger rubber on the back. He managed to squeeze 255's under there.

Hi guys. Not too long ago I was looking into modifying my 240 but hit a brick wall called 'Government'. They wouldn't let me fit a 350 chev into my 240 as the shell was too light for that engine. Keep in mind I'm in Sydney. So I did the only thing I could. I bought one pre engineered with a 350. Pre 1994 they were allowed and anyone that engineered one before that could still register that car. Without getting into specifics about the car, it looks ok, needs some cosmetic work to get it the way I want it and it goes well(for the time being anyway). It was set up for track so the handling is great.

Thanks Dan. I'll do that

I just spoke to my mechanic and he basically said that everything should be the same bar the steering. Can anyone please confirm whether this kit can be used on RHD cars? Thanks?
-
Would the manual come in handy for RHD cars or is it mainly for LHD cars? In what ways would it be useful for RHD if at all? Also, can their kit be used in any way for RHD cars? Cheers
-
Guys, I was thinking about buying the JTR manual but in my excitement I forgot that the manual would be written for LHD cars Sooo, my question would be what kind of differences can I expect, am I wasting my money on the JTR manual (yes I know I know, it's the bible) and especially the JTR kit? Please help... Cheers

Thanks Mike. I figured there would be some Aussies here. I've been giving that search button quiet a workout over the last few days. Lots of information to be had and I've just scratched the surface.

I'm new to the boards & I just wanted to say G'day and I'm looking forward to learning from everyone. This place looks like a goldmine. I've recently purchased a '72 Z and I'm loving this piece of history. Prior to this I had a late model Skyline and as much fun as that was the Z is more enjoyable. There's something about driving old cars that's inexplicably satisfying. I've just discovered this and I'm hooked on the automotive history from the late sixties to the early seventies. Some of the best looking and interesting cars seem to have been born in this period. One of them being my dream car, '67 - '68 Fastback. They are pretty pricy here in Australia though so I settled for a Z instead. What I thought was a compromise has turned into good fortune though. Can't beat that curvaciously good looking light chassis with a 350 chev in her. My car is bog stock atm but if one of my friends has something to do with it it won't be for long. He's been hounding me to drop a chevy in her and I'm caving in. So this is where you guys come in. I hope that your invaluable experience and knowledge will guide me through thick and thin and who knows, maybe one day I'll be on the other side returning this knowledge to some newbie. /end rant Cheers, George
