  3. Hello Sir, On a SBC swap in a 280Z, what is the best accessory bracket route to go to have the hood close and keep the a/c ? All i have is the water pump, alt and a/c to run. I have looked all over and can not find the answer. I have a VORTEC engine out of a 98 chevy truck and am running a carb. Next question is would you use the datsun elec fuel pump or remove it and go to a sbc mech pump? 2 line or 3 ? and would you replace the datsun line and replace it to 3/8" ? I appreciate your help.   5. hey everybody i need some advice, i have a set of coil over adjustable springs for my 78z that is set up with disc brakes, my question is the stock struts better than coil overs? is the disc's that much better that drums. i am not racing or anything, just cruzn. i am rebuildn the car and just tryn to knock out stuff before it gets painted. if i swap to disc brakes i need a proportion valve and a new master cyl so im not that crazy for the disc brake. soooooooooooo that what im askn you pros for... thanks JJ

  8. i replaced the cts, the zone says the 78 is different from the 79. i thought the 78 up was the same and the 77 down was the same...???? well an update, the car started running like pure crap besides all the white gas rich smoke it is pouring out. just to check, did a compression check, all cyls had 125psi but #1 and #6 plugs were wet from gas. checked the plugs,(1 and 6) 1 wasnt firing and the other firing off the side near the electrode. i replaced the 2 plugs now its running good except for running rich and when shifting, the idle remains very high. i think the afm is bad but possibly the cts or the thermotime switch because when i change the plugs around there is no difference. the only change is that the engine dies when one of the plugs is pulled from the connector.. one of the harnesses has red tape on it and i do not know which one goes where. im fixing to have to ohm them out. *** note , the afm had the stop bent causing the door to partially open. i repaired the bent terminals and made a new stop. all looks ok but.... i have a 77 afm but it appears slightly different than the 78.... any suggestions??????????? thanks jj
  9. hey everybody... i need some help.... my 78z runs very rich, i have swapped out the thermotime and the temp sensor and cleaned and replaced both connectors. i have also replaced and cleaned the 2 prong sensors on the intake and cleaned and greased (dielectric grease) all the sensors on the engine and the ecm. i have checked for a vac leak, none found. i am stuck, it starts good and runs great when cold but very shortly it starts running rich.... a smaller problem is when shifting, the prm's dont drop very quickly, but the main thing it smokes bad from running so rich.....PLEASE HELP i have checked the fuel injection manual,the 78 z car manual, the chiltons and the haines manuals.... and still lost as a goose
  10. hey thanks again everybody.... got the tank in, it looked brand new. after running it started running bad replaced the thermotime switch ... and the terminals were corroded cleaned and also cleaned the tps and the maf. car runs pretty good i think with time and after cleaning it will be good to go. one last thing what is the air adjustment jet proper setting? 1 or 2 turns out or what. thanks again jj
  11. hey i would lik to say thanks to everybody who has took the time to write and help me out. again thanks very much. i removed the tank today is was nasty about 1/3 the way down. i blew the return line on the tank it seemed clogged up or at partially. i took the tank to the shop to get it cleaned and lined. every gauge on the car worked except the gas gauge. i cleaned it up it was crusty and now it works ((((yeaaaaaaaaaa))). i blew out every line in the fuel system all blow freely so i hope this fixes my problems. i will be installing a fuel filter just before the pump just for extra security. i cleaned the pump with berrymans, it took an hour but its clean now. i hope its ok. it was nasty at first, dark colored and slimy. i should get the tank back saturday so i will post soon. thanks again jj

  13. sorry forgot, somebody replaced the rubber lines from the fuel rails to the injectors, nothing else appears to have been done. i did replace the air filter ad poured seafoam and berrymans in the tank.
  14. yes sorry it has a new fuel filter. i blew out the lines at the fuel pump both ways the blew the lines at the fuel filter both ways. the car has been sitting since 1989. the guy i got it from drained the tank, but said he could never get it running. the rubber piece from the maf to the throttle body was rotten but i repaired the leak. the car runs pretty good for a few minutes but stumbles trying to get wide open throttle. it will go about 1/4 mile then starts loosing power. it then finally acts like its starving for fuel, starts popping from the intake, then dies. it will restart later once its cooled off. i checked one of the plugs, it was not wet. someone said the black box on the dist was going out but i checked a plug wire and it appears to have a good hot spark.????????????
  15. please help. i have a 78 (11-77) 280Z, new fuel pump, new fuel pressure reg. the car runs for a bit, (no wide open throttle, hesitates a lil) then finally will start sputtering then will die ( engine will spit and pop from the throttle body). after it dies, the car will not start. if i pull the in fuel line off (from the fuel filter to the engine) gas will spray out with a ton of pressure. the car will start eventually but will die the same way in just a bit. thanks jj

  17. hey everybody, car is going slowly but have now ignition (engine finally spins over YAAAAAAAAAAA) hazards, headlights and parklights going. i have some questions? 1. does the dash need to be installed to make the turn signals work? 2. only 1 side of the fuze box is hot, (red wire side of box). ???? help 3. i have a 6 spade male wire connector under the dash on the drivers side that looks kinda like the same connector as the ignition switch, what does this connect to.??? 4. i have a dash out of a late 74 Z, (parts car) is the dash wiring completely different than a 77 Z? i have the electron microscope assisted wiring diagram, chilton and some found on this site, please help. im soooo stuck. thanks JJ

  19. Hey does anybody have a fuel tank that fits a 77 280z they want to sell or trade for. I have one that fits a late 260/early 280Z. My 77 Z has the raised up floor with the floor panel that has the 45 degree angle that covers the taill lights. I live in the far east Dallas area. Thanks for your help. JJ I have the other fuel tank and also have a late 74 260z parts car and the engine out of the 77 Z that I can trade.
