  1. Update: Its been over 3 years since I have touched the Z. The car has been on jack stands since the day before i broke my leg. After recovering life happened and I never have been able to get back at it. It has cost me over $4500 in storage fees in the mean time. This past weekend a couple friends and I busted ass and finished installing the rear bolt in camber plates. Installed the new parking brake cable that had snapped and installed the new distributor that got recurved and the vacuum secondary removed. I don't have many pictures except the pictures of it going on the trailer when it was leaving the garage that I have been renting for the past 10+ years. Here it sits at home. I have to adjust the ride height out back as we were dog tired at the end of the night. I also got some new tires that I need for the front for real cheap. $120 for a set of 4!!
  2. I had some plans for the Z while the car was parked for the winter which I started on February 16th. I removed my rear suspension to figure out where the loud clunking noise was coming from. Turns out that a previous owner custom fabricated strut mounts for the rear coilovers and they have worn out so bad that every time the rear suspension unloaded the mount moved. Because I did not have any parts on hand to fix it I left the car as is and went home to start looking into how to fix it. The next day I was having lunch at my parents before work and on my way to my car I slipped on ice in the driveway and this happened....... The foot is not supposed to point in that direction. Post surgery The long screw will have to be removed once every thing heals. It was put there because all the ligaments were torn and the tibia would not stay in place. Basically I dislocated my ankle and broke the fibula. It will be a total on 3 months that I will not be able to to put weight on my leg. I am currently in a cast for a month and after that I will be in a boot (though still no weight bearing) for another month. As I sit here basically not being able to much I decided to buy some parts for my pain and suffering. Brand new front and rear weld in camber plates manufactured by Techno Toy Tuning (T3). A friend of mine will be doing the installation.
  3. I hope this works out for you. Series 1 240Zs are getting rare. Hell even that valve cover is worth a few hundred bucks to the right buyer. It would pain me to see this go to the scrap yard! I just came back from ZCON and I was able to see #13 in person in original condition. Some people say it needs a full restoration but I like the originality of it.
  4. I will mesasure my car this Sunday. If you look at my pictures earlier in this thread you will see that I cut out the hump instead of bashing it in. In all honesty I didn't even think of bashing it in at all. I went straight for the cut off wheel. Looking back at how much time I have into it, I probably should have just bashed it in. Here is an updated picture of the floor after I sprayed on the lizard skin.
  5. Nope..I am with you on preferring the 260/280 tails. The dash though...I like the 240Z.
  6. You are correct about the rust behind the right rear wheel. It looks as though someone may have backed into something which made the paint come off. It is just surface rust that I should try to repair. Luckily there isnt any rot just random bits of surface rust. The previous owner had the head light buckets molded to the fenders. They did a poor job and now they are cracking and starting to rust where the paint came off. My goal I to tackle the body work my self and have the car painted white but keep the flare a satin black. About using a rubberized citing and then sound proof padding, take a look at the information on other forums about making your own lizard skin product using latex paint and micro ceramic air balloons. 7. UPDATE!!! I decided to start a new project during the winter months. I will be attempting to polish the valve cover I have left over form the 240z I sold. Here are a fes pics from when I did the initial cleaning and media blasting. I expertise is polishing glass so I figured it really isn't much difference (fine grinding (sanding it case of aluminum) is the most important step). I placed the valve cover in a ultra sonic tank with Lestoil and water at 200 degrees. Let it soak for an hour each side. Before Soaking in tank Half done In the blasting booth using silica oxide. This stuff is so fine it is like powder. The finish product. Well step one at least. I will be working on the sanding later. Will be using 400, 800, 1000, 2000 grit paper. Next project I started and finished yesterday was prepping and spraying the floor pan with the Lizard Skin product that my wife bought me earlier this year. Turns out there is a only a shelf life of 1 year so I only has 2 months to get this finished. Before It was after 1 am when we finished so I wasn't able to get pictures when it was fully cured. I guess the final finish is slightly duller than what is shown. I am hoping this is going to help with the road noise and maybe even help with the noise the fuel pump puts out.
  8. So it has been 7 months since an update....sorry. I truly haven't done much since then except drive the **** out of it. I have a friend hat always scours the pick and pull yards and I recently got a call from him saying he found a 280z in Clinton, MA. If anybody that lives up here knows that is rare because these cars rot away quickly and almost all old cars have been crushed in junk yards. I went there the next day and found a complete bone stock z. What sucks though is I only had a $100 and I only got away with the door panels and other interior trim pieces. Pissed that I forgot to bring my camera though. My door panels on my car are pathetic. I was going to try to repair them because good used ones sell for as much as $200. I got both door panels, arm rests, window cranks, and door handle cups for $50. Oh yeah they are in mint shape too..... Original 260z panels. This picture shows the arm rest installed on the original because I couldnt install the new panels. For some reason Datsun moved the door lock pull forward 3" on the 280z. I now have to modify the top of the door to move the lever forward. Panels from the 280z Top dash cover for $10. I doubt I will use but I had to grab it. Up to date pictures.
  9. I have put a few hundred miles on them so far without issue. I know Rotas have had a questionable past with broken wheels. I am sure forged wheels may interesting for the people in the racing scene. Especially the people that street drive the cars but track on weekends.
  10. You would have to be an excellent body man in order to get the metal smooth with out using filler. There is no negatives other than that if you like the look. If you wanted to paint later you would have to prep the surface like any paintjob so don't let hat stop you.
  11. Can I see a pic of those mirrors on your car. I have a set of those Vitaloni mirrors sitting on the shelf. I am currently running a set of mirrors from a Datsun 1300 pickup. I have been wanting to switch the mirrors out but haven't gotten around to it.
  12. Don't let them try to get away without paying top dollar. Never take there first offer. Try to buy the car back also.
  13. I too am running 45 series tires in the front and I had a lot of problems rubbing the front of the fender and air dam. Not so much the frame . I can't run the front at the ride height I lwould Ike to. I wish I went with 40 series tires as suggested in the thread. I
  14. Honestly I would suggest finding a seat on a team. A lot of teams have cars and sell seats. What's good about it you don't have to build a car and you are not responsible if it breaks. My team sold a slot when we did a 24 hour race at Nelson ledges in Ohio. Here is a link to the forum where people advertise openings... http://forums.24hoursoflemons.com/viewforum.php?id=11
