Oh hell yeah, I would just about KILL for a "Pantera" hatch for my 280zx right now -- that's all she needs, well, that and a paint job. I would definately buy a pantera hatch if it was available for my zex.

Where's the engineering market at right now? I'm thinking of getting my B.S. in computer hardware engineering, but I've been reading that the demand my go down. Before this, I was looking at aerospace engineering, but computer hardware seemed to interest me more. Is anybody here a computer hardware engineer? If not, anything close, like a computer software engineer, or something similar? Thanks for the help.

I'm not sure if you knew this already, but they already do have a pretty damn good version of AvP for the PC right now, which is an online multiplayer. It kicks ASS!

Oh man, don't get me started! I went to the movies last night and when I saw the AVP advertisment I nearly sh!t myself!! It's a good thing they hung it up next to the restrooms. I can't wait for it to come out -- I've played avp on the computer and loved every bit of it -- hell, even when the Super Nintendo was popular I used it for avp. I did like Resident Evil -- it scared the hell out of my girlfriend after watching it in the theaters. Hehe, because she wasn't 17 then, I had to buy two tickets two a Disney movie, and then we snuck into Resident Evil -- after the movie I joked that we should've stayed in with the Disney showing. Anyways, yeah, I will be one of the first customers for that movie -- I'm a diehard fan of the Predator! He RULES!

So you're saying that even with your poly-lock nuts, you still have problems with them coming loose, or is that before you put the poly-locks on there? I too am running a solid cam -- would this problem be solved if I switch over to a hydraulic? Thank you all for the help -- I live in a small town so the only auto store within 35 miles from here is NAPA, and when I told him that I was looking for locking nuts for the rocker studs, he told me that all rocker nuts are lock nuts -- I don't think he understood what I was trying to tell him. This weekend I'll be making a road trip so I'm sure I could find a few there. Thanks again

I have a few rocker nuts that keep coming loose (intakes 5,6,and 7) so I'm wondering if it would hurt my engine to put lock nuts on the rocker studs to keep this from happening. I just have a gut feeling that this wouldn't be good for the engine. By the way, it's a 350 with holley systemax II heads. While I'm posting, I might as well make it worth while -- I'm replacing my radiator -- I'm probably going to get the Griffin aluminum radiator, but I was also looking at the GM aluminum radiator -- is there major difference between cooling performance between these two? Also, I'm thinking about switching to roller lifters, cam, and rockers, so what would be the best combination (ratios, sizes, etc.) of rollers to buy with a stock 350 block, holley systemax II heads, victor jr intake, edelbrock 650 (which will probably be going to fuel injection in the near future), and MSD ignition. I used Aircraft Stripper on my Z -- it's easily attainable from Wal-Mart. This stuff worked wonders on my Z, saved me plenty of time and pain, and wasn't as expensive as I was expecting it to be. If it were me, I would sand the whole car down to bare metal -- just to make sure you do it right, but if you only have one coat paint on the body, then you don't have to worry about it. After I stripped the paint I could use fine grit to easily remove the rest of the paint. Good luck on the project.

Yeah, and the 280zx is an s130. Sorry for the confusion. A cf z dash in a zx would RULE! So, does it sound like a plan to you?

Ooooh, I know. Make a carbon fiber dash for the zx that looks like the s30 dash but fits the s130 -- it'd have the looks AND less weight. It may requre more skill though, but I'd definately love to buy one of those from you if you did make one. The s30 dash is beautiful, but the s130 dash is the opposite. Boy I feel like a kid in the candy store. Thanks.

Well Tim, you're right, I was hoping I wouldn't hear something like this, but I'm glad I did. I asked for help and this forum gave it to me. Thanks you all for your help. I've already changed the oil and filter, and I dropped the pan a couple of days ago -- didn't really seem like any shavings were in there, just a couple on the bottom. The problem was only with two lifters, and the heads only have 1000 miles on them, so I don't think there should be much in there, but it would be wise for me to go ahead and check it out. The two valves were the two intake valves closest to the firewall on the passenger-side. I just thought of another question -- what's the cylinder order on an sbc? Thanks.

See here's the thing. I've had the hybrid for roughly a week and a half, and when I drove it home, I noticed a lot of blow-by on the passenger-side valve cover breather and a large loss of power. When I took the valve covers off and let the engine run, I noticed that on the passenger side two of the valves weren't moving. I took out the lifters and this is what they looked like So now I'm positive the camshaft is also screwed up...DING! I pulled it out and it had two lobes completely rounded off and one was on its way. I knew a guy that had a camshaft for sale so I went and talked to him and he said that he'd sell me his Lunati cam and lifters for $100 -- brand new. So I thought great, I don't have to wait for one to come in, I get a great brand, and it's cheap. I bought it from him and found out that the cam and lifters are solid, versus the previous one which was hydraulic. So, like I said, I do have both lifters that I need -- hydraulics and solids, but I was just going to check with you guys to see if I could still use the hydraulics, because I really don't want to be adjusting the valves every six thousand miles give or take. I think I'm going to end up putting the solids in there, though. I here that you get used to adjusting them after a while, so maybe it won't be so bad. Anyways, now you know where I'm coming from and thanks for the help.

Hi all, I just changed my came out from a hydraulic to a solid and I have a set of hydraulic lifters and solid lifters for it. I know you're not supposed to, but I was wondering if I would hurt the engine by putting in hydraulic lifters in there with the solid cam. Reason being is that they are much more maintenance free, and since I'm in college and have a job etc. etc. that is a big + for me. The engine is a 350...if you need any other info about it just tell me and I'll let you know. Thanks for any help in advance.

Thank you all for the replies. I suppose since my hood is generally rust free I won't butcher it up. I found a setup on an 85 GT that should be compatible with my carb. I'll put pictures up when it's done, but for now I'm upgrading the cam.

I've thought about that, and when I searched through the archives, I found a lot of people doing that. I don't really care for the way it makes the engine bay look more cluttered up with the exception of greimann's former car [hats off to you]. Plus, it seems like the hood scoop would be able to allow more air into the filter. Thanks though for the suggestion -- it is the most probable. Any one else?

Hi all, I recently became the owner of a 280zx w/a 350 , and as part of my campaign to achieve more performance and effeciency, I was wondering how much it would benefit me to cut a hole in the hood, put a hood scoop on and allow cold air to hit the filter. I know that I would get a performance gain out of it, but I also know that it will probably hurt my cd, so I'm thinking all in all I'd probably come out even, right? I searched the archives for this but couldn't find the results I am looking for. Also, if I add a hood scoop, I'd be worried about driving it in heavy rain conditions. If anybody has any advice I'm open to everything. Thanks all in advance.
