It definately wouldn't be APC's Weak and Powerless Hatebreed delivers some damn heavy power music with a kickass head-banging beat...my v8 is fixing to go back in, so I think I'm going to have one of their songs as the stdk. On a side note, I'm glad we're putting together this video -- Darius's was a huge hit, and I'm sure this will be too. It's about time that the world finds out what these Zs can do -- I know my hometown is fixing to

Heh, that's why I have to get another carb -- the Edelbrock 600 on there is crap, and it's only a couple of months old. It had the a/f ratio so messed up that there was tons of white smoke would constantly pour out of the v8. I tried adjusting it, cleaning it...I even took it to a mechanic who's been working with those for over 30 years and he told me I'd be better off just buying a new one, although he never told me which brand. I've always liked their Quadrajet before, but now after this I think I'm going to give Holley a shot. Sorry, I know my opinion is biased and I shouldn't let one bad apple ruin the rest of them, but I don't want to have to go through this crap again.

I've had my eyes on the Holley 670 Street Avenger for a while...does that have a pretty good rep? I've always heard to go with Holley (mostly from my redneck cousins though) for their easy tuning and reliable quality. The only things is I'm more familiar with the Bosch EFI system on the Zs than carbs b/c I've never really dealt with them in the past. Thanks for the tip btw.

I'm sure this topic has been discussed before, but when I search the archives all of the matches just come up for Zs with the stock 6-bangers. I'm wondering if somebody could give me advice or at least direct me to a link to help me out here. I'm trying to find the pros and cons of TBI or a good carburetor for my sbc 350. I would like to stay with a carb, but if it's going to cause a lot of trouble in the long run then I might as well go with TBI. If any of you have any links or can help please reply. And yes, I'm 100% sure this has been discussed before, I just can't seem to find it. Maybe I need to learn how to use the search function better

Just got painted, opinions wanted on headlight covers, pic

I think headlight covers compliment the zx very gracefully. Smoked or clear, either would be a great choice. Plus, you lower your cd -
What's the Highest Ticket You've Gotten Away With?
zeeboost replied to zeeboost's topic in Non Tech Board
The cost really isn't anything -- it's only $177 -- I would just like to keep it off of my record. I can go to defensive driving to get it taken off my record, but then that means that if I get caught speeding again within another year, that WOULD go on my record and jack up my insurance. I would like to go to court in hopes of the cop not showing up, but like I mention earlier, if he does I would be screwed and most likely I'd have to pay for dd, court fees, and the ticket. I have been thinking about a lawyer...about how much do they charge for just a little case such as this? BTW, those are some great stories! V8ZRACER260Z, you better consider yourself damn lucky to have escaped a 175+ ticket. That must've been a pretty awesome feeling, though Thanks for sharing those -- I'm starting to regain hope again. -
I just recieved a ticket from the good ole HP for doing 82 in a 60, and I'm contemplating if I should go to court for it or not. About the only hope that I would have is if the officer doesn't show up; if he does, I'm SOL. The only thing I can think of is just to try to extend the court date as far as I can, and about the only thing I have going for me is that I haven't had a speeding ticket in 3 years, and I'm a college student (late for class, thus the reason for my ticket). I think I'm going to buy a jammer -- I read it's not illegal in TX. So anyways, I'm just curious as to how high of a speeding ticket YOU were able to get excused...maybe it'll give me some hope. Thanks

Is there a deadline to this? I'll be willing to submit some pics and vids, but the Zx currently has the heads off and has some work being done to it. It will be most likely another few weeks before it can have everything put back together.

That's what I was thinking about. I guess my safest bet would be just to leave the rear bumper on. I guess I'll check it and see if I can push it in after I bleed the rear shocks. I have the MSA II fiberglass rear bumper, so maybe if I can shorten it down to where it won't stick out so far it would be a happy-medium. Thanks for your replies. Oh, and 80 lt1, I'm at college right now, but when I return home I'll post up some more pictures of that zx since they're on my harddrive.

I would really like to shave the rear bumper on my zx to give it a cleaner look, much like this: The only thing is that I don't want some jackass demoloshing my rear because he can't hit the brakes quick enough. Is there any way that I could weld some reinforcements behind the rear piece of metal (pretty much a hidden bumper) instead of having the big bulky bumper sticking out? I've seen many z's with a shaved rear and I think they look great, but I don't know if they did anything else to help support the rear of the car in case of a collision. I searched around but I couldn't find anything related to this topic. I was debating between posting here or the chassis forum, so I apologize if this should've been posted there. Thanks for any help.

In that same little 4-banger truck, I've had the tailpipe off before with the exhaust ending at the muffler outlet, which is about 3-4 feet passed the cab and that wouldn't pass inspection either. I hate all of these damn laws; soon engines are going to be either electric or hydrogen-powered so why can't we at least enjoy the gasoline engines before they're extinct? Oh, well, I suppose if I just wait a couple more years I'll be able to do whatever I want with it... Looks like I'm going to be buying a fuel cell

In my town, the guy that does inspections is an old rotten bastard. I took my little 4 banger Ranger to get inspected with stock exhuast, and he put his hand over the tailpipe and declared it had an exhuast leak. By his professional guess it was somewhere around the cat, so I took it home, let the truck idle, crawled under there, felt around the entire pipe back out and didn't feel any air leaks, so just to be sure I tightened the cat bolts. Then, I did the same test that he did, and it didn't push my hand away with THAT much force when I tried to cover it, but it did a little. I mean, what the hell do you expect from a 100 hp 4 cylinder at idle? So I took it back there and he still didn't pass it. What an ass... Anyways, I'm suspecting he'll do the same thing to my zx as he did to my friend's GT. Hey labrat, I may need to take a trip up to Austin to get it "inspected" at your friend's place. Maybe slip him a couple of bucks too for his troubles.

I think TX is on the same level as Cali...don't quote me on that though. I know that '74 and under are emission exempt, and I believe it's the same way over in California.

Engine is apart -- What would you do?
zeeboost replied to zeeboost's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Sorry, I was hoping this post wouldn't be like one of those that I always see, "I HAVE A Z AND WANT 500 HP AND 30 MPG -- WHAT DO I NEED TO BUY, HOW MUCH WILL IT COST, AND HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE!!!" I honestly did search the archives for a camshaft selection, but I couldn't find anything...guess I should've thrown the word "combo" in there. Thanks for the link, and thanks for the list grumpy. I guess the only question I have left is what kind of little things could I buy for it that won't hurt reliability, such as roller rockers. But I suppose I can search the archives for that one some more. Thanks again, and I apologize now for posting this up. -
Engine is apart -- What would you do?
zeeboost replied to zeeboost's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Was this a stupid question? Should I re-search the archives? -
I currently have an 82 280zx with a sbc 350 -- the exhaust is 2 4-1 headers with flowmasters. What I'd like to do is just have the mufflers directly under the seats. I know this would be loud, but it will give a clean look in the rear. My friend had an 86 GT with headers, H-pipe, and flows right after the h-pipe with no tailpipes (pretty much like the setup I'm wanting) and a couple of years ago the laws changed and he couldn't pass inspection so he had to install tailpipes on it. I don't think mine would be exempt if his 5.0 wasn't. Another question: why aren't sidepipes illegal? It seems like they are pretty much in the same position as the setup that I want, just along the side of the car. Anyways, thanks in advance.

Don't you hate it when that happens?!! LOL!

Hi all. As some of you may have read, when I first bought my hybrid the cam had a couple of rounded off lobes, and the engine has had some excessive blow-by, along with a couple of other problems. So, now that the engine is apart, I'm replacing the headgasket, trying to locate and remove any kind of metal shavings, and I'm going to be changing cams. The cam that I was thinking about was the Competition 270H (maybe 280H). My specs are: *sbc 350 -- block came from GM factory from a 78 pickup (I forgot which model) *Holly Systemax II Alum. Heads -- Intake flows 220, exhaust 178, 2.02/1.600 and 64 cc chambers *Pistons are still stock dished pistons *Drive line is a t56 with an aluminum flywheel and a 3.9 rear *Victor jr. intake *Edelbrock 600 carb *MSD ignition *Currently has a Lunati 300 cam, but I think it's too big for my setup *True dual exhaust with headers and flows If you need any other information, please let me know. I'm looking to get between 350-370 rwhp -- I don't want too much because that's when things start breaking, and I gotta save some money for classes and books So, I guess the questions are: 1) What kind of cam would you choose with this setup? This is pretty much going to be a daily driver, so I need something streetable - it just needs to pack a punch. Like I said, I think the Comp. 270H is a good candidate, but I'm not as experienced as many of you are with this, so prove me wrong if I am. 2) What would be causing the blow-by? With the engine apart, what can I check to make sure the engine is sound? 3) Is there anything else that I can buy for this engine that won't hurt reliability and still help out with performance? Is there anything else that you would buy for the engine if this was your engine? (and you wanted the same streetable setup, of course; not a 7 second monster) I did search the archives, but everybody has a different setup, so I wasn't sure which one to go with. I also searched for one of grumpy's 500-point checklists, but it was unsuccessful. Thank you all in advance with any help. This forum kicks @ss!

Meanwhile, halfway around the world...(Iraq video)
zeeboost replied to Heavy Z's topic in Non Tech Board
That's awesome man! I've got a good friend over there right now -- he said he's gonna e-mail me a couple of videos that they shot up there. I'll post 'em here if someone could host. -
I think he was trying to do a 180 but forgot the function of anti-lock brakes. Yeah, he's pretty dumb, but at least it was all caught on tape.
