  1. A 2+2 is a 4 seat version of the 280zx. If you have a back seat, you have a 2+2. the car is set up the same, it's just longer, so your driveshaft will be longer, and you won't get the same weight transfer on launch, because of the longer wheelbase. The front will not come up as fast. That may be good depending on how fast you want to go, but it also hinders traction. But it all depends on how fast you're going to go. ------------------ http://refuse.netdojo.com/Zcar
  2. 1981/1982 brackets are the correct ones. I'm going out to find them, too. good luck. ------------------ http://refuse.netdojo.com/Zcar
  3. Can I do that on a stock set of rotors/hubs? I'm still going to have to use spacers, since the backspacing (6" vs 4.25") will be a serious issue? I think spacers would be cheaper than adapters, but overall would it be cheaper? ------------------ http://refuse.netdojo.com/Zcar
  4. Yes, I thought about it, but it's too late, I already have the front brakes. I got them on a deal (the parts guys gave me killer prices) and I can't take them back. I'm trying to work with what I have now. I don't really want to convert the back to 5-lug if the front is 4 still, so that's why I'm looking for options. Thanks, AL ------------------ http://refuse.netdojo.com/Zcar
  5. What's up! I'm building my '71 up, and I already have a set of '93 Stock rims. I am going to use adapters to attach them, but I was wondering about the spacing. The backspacing is 6", and I need 4.25" in the front, so I'm getting 1.75" adapters for the front. The rear is where I'm kind of worried. If I use the same adapeter, the tire will be very close to the fender lip. I was going to do 1.5", but I'm not sure whether they make them. I thought about drilling the stub axle out for 5 lug (I'm doing a disc conversion anyway, so while I have them out...) and use spacers. I have read the JTR manual about spacing and they say 5"bs with a 235/60/15. I'm going to use a 225/50/16, which is a little shorter, but I was wondering about 245/50/16's. I don't really want to move the spring perch up 2.5", so what do you guys think? I have about a month before the suspension will all be done, so I'm trying to sort this out BEFORE I make the wrong decision. ------------------ http://refuse.netdojo.com/Zcar
  6. What's up guys! Wa swonderin what you guys are using for a radiator in your Z. I really don't think you're using a stock radiator. I was going to use the JTR brackets and radiator since it's pretty much a no-brainer, and a good radiator. I am going to use an early water pump (passenger side inlet) so that the hoses will be in the same place. Pretty suce the hose sizes are close, if not, there are adapter hoses. I'm also going to pick up the fan combo they suggest, from the Ford Taurus/Sable, that has 2 fans. I have a wrecking yard a mile from my work full of 'em. What did you guys do?? ------------------ http://refuse.netdojo.com/Zcar
  7. I'm doing the same swap- I'm just using a T5 yoke on the JTR-spec driveshaft. Since it's still a T5, the length will still be the same-about 23.5". Easy bolt-on and much sturdier than stock. ------------------ http://refuse.netdojo.com/Zcar
  8. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Never Mind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why the hell would Nissan design it that way? Doesn't make any sense. Probably why they changed the design in '79. ------------------ http://refuse.netdojo.com/Zcar
  9. What's up! I was trying to seperate the lower control arms from the stub axle housing on the rear of my '71. I pulled the bolt from the spindle pin, do I have to pull the screw? I unbolted the spindle pin on either side, and then loosened the screw in the middle. The arm loosens to the point that I can move it all the way back and forth, what am I missing? I have run across this before, and just decided to leave it, but this time, I'm replacing all bushings, and having the arm and housing sandblasted. Plus, I'm installing discs in the back, and have to pull the stub axle in order to remove the backing plate. So I really need to get these seperated. Any Ideas? Thanks ------------------ http://refuse.netdojo.com/Zcar
  10. Ok, there's the problem I wanted to avoid. I had a '66 Mustang about 2 years ago, with 2 1/4" duals, into 2 Flowmasters, and out to the rear. That car would drone like crazy, so I put about 1.5" of insulation under the back seat, and that killed a lot of it, to where it was tolerable. I loved the way the motor sounded, I just couldn't take the resonation. That's why I'm thinking now about maybe a Turbo muffler, or Dynomax. Not sure, thinking still, the car won't be ready for that until December (closer than it seems for this project). I'm not worried about killing power in my car since I will only run about 200-225 hp anyway (keeping it close to stock) and really don't want to go any farther than that (14's in the quarter are fast enought for me, although it should be goos for close to 13's; as long as I can take out those pesky Camaros, Mustangs, and Vette's; not trying to beat Vipers). I'm planning on going on Power Tour 2001 all the way, and want to be able to handle it (especially for my wife, since she's going for me) and I want to be able to listen to the stereo without straining. anybody have an opinion about the muffler resonance? Thanks. ------------------ http://refuse.netdojo.com/Zcar
  11. Well, I'm using just some 1"x3" square that I had laying around to make subframe connectors, just to stiffen up twisting, but I am also using a crossmember to mount the engine, which will stiffen up the front, also. Other than that, strut tower braces are a good idea. ------------------
  12. What's up! I'm building a V8z, and I'm debating about how to do the exhaust. I have seen the ways people do it, from using 3" single to dual 2.5" exhaust. My car will be fast (how many V8 z's aren't?) but not super fast. I don't want the car to be loud, but I don't want to restrict the engine. It will be pretty stock, except an Edelbrock 1406 carb and Intake. I'm taking a long trip (across country and back) and don't want to have an obtrusive exhaust. Here's what I was thinking: a dual 2" exhaust, 2 flowmasters, 2.25" chrome tips. Not sure whether that would be good or is a single 2.5" better? I know that duals flow better (I've had Mustangs, Camaros, Chevy Trucks, no problem there, but there's more room for the exhaust and for insulation) but I also don't want anything too loud. Let me know what you think. ------------------ http:/refuse.netdojo.com/Zcar
  13. What's up! I'm doing a complete re-do of the brakes on a car I'm building, and I've been steered in the direction of a 280zx disc/240sx caliper/maxima caliper bracket swap. I wanted to find out: 1. If it is at least as good as the stock drums on my '71 2. if there is another swap. I can do the swap for less than $300, and it will not take any fabbing (besides bending brake tubes). What do you think? ------------------
  14. I'm working on a '71 and plan on putting in a 302/T-5. The way I have worked it out is using a Trans-Dapt engine crossmember, cut it to approx 25 inches (forgot the exact measurement) and weld it in. Might just bolt it, haven't tried it yet. The only problem is that I have to notch the crossmember for the steering shaft (they touch slightly) and I use the stock Z tranny mount (as far as I know, haven't tried it, but it looks like it'll work, I'll let you know) I'm hoping to retain the same driveshaft relation from this. We'll see. I just started, so detail will be forthcoming.
