go to the contact info from the watanabe website and then look for the warehouse location here in the states. You'll be able to order through the phone. The guys name is kiyo... cool guy to work with, You can tell he's Japanese!
-
hey got a question about your sectioned struts? what stuts did you use (ie mr2 struts)? and how far did you place the thread perch collar down the strut tube? Having a little comfusion with my ground control install on my strut sectioning.
-
It looks good man... this is zack by the way!
I am still interested... let me know the update on the shipping
-
its the set in my sig...
i bought the dark gunmetal. its almost like a black but not quiet, and its like a semi gloss
-
^the thing is that Kiyo (the guy i spoke too about the wheels) have certain colors and sizes already here in the states... they have a watanabe US warehouse down in LA, so getting them shipped is not much an issue (60 bucks to ship out from LA!!)... Luckily they had the size and color wheel i wanted so there was no other extra fee i paid for. I got mine without lugs for about 2200. Volks or other name brands like SSR's can cost that much. But vintage, era specific and truely a JDM classic wheel for that price, no regrets for me.

that pearl white z31 is beautiful man... great z's out there guys!
-
yeah i know the guy from city tire, brian... he hokked me up with some feddys for my RX7, great guy by the way. I love feddys but the sidewall at 50 is too big for my taste... i want 45's, i'm thinking of going with some fuzion zr1's
-
or some old school deep dish panasports, i havent seen one really, only that other thread that was posted to this section. I think a member was re-painting his?
-
oh yeah i got mine through the deal here in LA from watanabe, good people to work with
-
I want Watanabe wheels also, mainly due to the period look so I know where you're coming from even if they do cost an arm and a leg. My next step is to decide what finish will go best with my paintwork; gunmetal, silver or black and what width rim and offset to go for.
Shika - where did you get yours from and do you have photos of them on the car?
they are currently not on my car, working on suspension right now... my car is a gunmetal color with some black flares... i will post later tonight my car and wheels
-
Yeah i like the ectsa xs'... i have yet to see those tires on the wats... 170 is a little much for me, gotta dig a little deeper
-
yes... wats have always been my dream and i finally got them not too long ago... absolutely love them. and would not trade them for anything else. Yes they're pricey, and i agree with mr. hoke, performance not as great. I like them because they are era specific and they have that look that i want.

Hancook Ventus 245/45/r16. They do not get the job done.
I see they now have a few 265's out there. I will prolly move to a 265 rear with my next set of tires and maybe most to a 245/50 in the front.
i here ya man... i really want some 265's but the sidewalls i want to keep it at 45's... 50's look a little too meaty for me. The Ventus RS2's were my original choice. But they are discontinued? hmmm
-
thanks guys... any body running some fuzions ZR1's? they have 245/45/16 that looks pretty decent? any experience with these tires? I've always been a "Federal Tire" guy.
-
aright guys looking for some photos of your tires stretched and non stretched on some watanabes!
There are only a few tires that are able to fit the wide 9 to 9.5, 16in wheels. I know that the hancook ventus RS2's are popular. But unfortunately they are discontinued? any other good tires out there for the wats? looking for 245/45/16 or around that range, i'm willing to stretch but not too much?
tried searching but not too much luck?? thanks in adavance guys!

^ of the front maybe? if not, i found Austin Hokes Geocities web page. Has a lot of photos.
-
my sleeves were all the same length..i don't remember how long exactly...i just positioned the top of the sleave about an inch from the top of the strut tube. the sleeves are long enough that i can get any ride height i want. i did also section the front and used mr2 struts.
do you have a photo of your install? My threaded sleeves height are 6in but 5.5in from the thread collar. My springs height are 10in.
-
^thanks for the info, I read most of that thread already by john, i few times actually. Nothing pertaining to Ground Controls kit? I'm comfortable with sectioning but placing the threaded sleeve is a little hazzzy? I am sectioning the (MR2) strut tubes to fit the inserts snug and tight, close to the height of the insert. But my main concern is where to place the threaded sleeve? It goes into detail about different length of springs and threaded sleeves. And how to calculate the the midpoint at what you want. But how do you know that if your threads are different sizes? I think I need a diagram.
oh yeah sorry to hi-jack thread.

^one quick question? I've been trying to search on this for quite sometime and haven't found an answer to it yet?
I have the ground controls coilover kit... how far along the strut do you position the new perch for the sleeve? I'm going with section struts that will fit the Tokicos Illuminas from the MR2? Do i go with the same length that Ground Control gave me? 5 inches front and 7 inches rear with the shorter struts? If anyone can enlighten me with this, it would be a great help! Thanks in advance.

thanks disco... i was finishing up the tape on them when i was taking the photos. I wish i can go turbo like you guys... 2 more years of "Rad. Tech" school then we can talk business.

^not my thing... i still like the stock headlight look, if it doesnt take away from the original design of the car, i think you have somehting. Good luck with it!!!

oh i see, ok gotcha man, that make sense. Did you section just to the "inserts" or did you leave some space in the tube to have some extra play if needed? You have 10in springs right?
