  1. As far as I know, Crown Vics never came with the DOHC heads. I'm pretty sure they were all SOHC.
  2. Sorry for the lack of updates. Towards the end of spring semester this year, I had some health problems arise that kept me from being able to work. I ended up getting diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis at the ripe old age of 20. As such, my income has been pretty limited and I'm at a point with this project where I can't do anything else without buying more (expensive) parts. To answer your question though, header clearances are going to be very tight if I don't end up either raising the motor quite a bit (which I don't want to do) or modifying the frame rails (which I might end up doing). It looks like with the DOHC heads, the steering stuff will have to be modified a bit to clear. If you search this forum, there's a few builds with ingenious ways to get more clearance with the steering. This probably won't be nearly as big of an issue with the SOHC heads though.
  3. Not much progress has been made since then. My knee is very screwed up which is keeping me from working, and, in turn, keeping me from affording the parts I need for this car. It looks like it won't be out until next summer.
  4. Here's that project thread I was talking about: http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php?/topic/88892-project-46-4v-s30/ And here's a really rough mockup of the engine and a T-56 in the car:
  5. Got a decent amount done today. The Z met its new friend (Its a '77 Civic that I picked up for dirty cheap. I'm gonna restore it and possibly swap a newer Honda engine into it and sell it for a profit so I can buy the rest of the stuff I need for the Z): I got all the wiring out of the engine bay: Engine and trans fully mocked up and getting ready to go in: It was interesting trying to get it all in through the engine bay: I finally got it mostly into place though: With the engine here, the shifter is about 3" forward of the stock shifter location. I think I'm going to end up relocating the hood latch, moving most of the firewall back, and bringing the engine back a few inches. I might use the cowl for an intake if I end up doing this (not how that'll work with the MAF though). Also, I'm going to have to either buy or fabricate a rear sump oil pan in order to clear the steering rack and crossmember.
  6. Finally an update! I've been crazy busy since I've been home for summer and I haven't had much time to work on it. I've been pulling apart my Lincoln Continental motor. This has got to be the most interesting looking intake manifold that I've ever seen: The timing cover is kinda bulky but it sure does have a lot of stuff to cover: Also, I got the DOHC heads off: Here's the Continental block next to my Cobra block: All the stuff I pulled off the motor: Then I started mocking up the drivetrain for the Z. I'm just throwing a pan and heads on the bare block and bolting the trans to it so I can see how it all fits in the engine bay:
  7. Check the for sale section on this site. I'm sure you can find a set of clean stock fenders for less than that.
  8. Got my camera out for the first time this season to do a shoot of my friend's new LS1 Camaro:
  9. I've been crazy busy with school so I haven't had a chance to get anything done, but I'll be home in exactly 2 weeks from today so the work will commence then. I can't wait, not working on it for this long is driving me crazy.
  10. I've got both out of my '71 240Z, as well as another set from (I believe) a 260Z. I know the 240Z tach works, but the rest of the gauges I'm not 100% sure about. PM me with an offer if you're interested.
  11. Any idea when it is in August? I'm really hoping my car will be done by then, and if its late August I'll be in Lansing, which will make the drive to Grand Rapids significantly shorter.
  12. This needs to happen. I really want to see some more Zs and meet some more Z enthusiasts. I also need to actually see an S30 other than mine.
  13. Thanks for the words of encouragement. My dad recently bought a '95 Grand Marquis with the 2V 4.6 and I was impressed with the engine, so I can't wait to see how my car turns out. Money is a little tight right now, so new parts probably won't end up showing up until I sell the Civic. But, in the meantime, I bought this book: http://www.amazon.com/Build-Performance-Liter-Ford-Engines/dp/188408978X I haven't had a chance to read much of it, but it should definitely educate me quite a bit on these motors so my build will turn out better.
  14. I sold my last project car a little while after I finished it so that paid for most of the parts for this build. Unfortunately between working on my Civic and getting the Suburban roadworthy, I didn't have time to do anything else on the Z.
  15. I live in a little farm town not too far from Toledo, Ohio, but I'm currently at MSU in Lansing. Don't have my Z with me right now though since its torn down for my build.
  16. Just found this and felt like bumping it cause I'd like to meet some other Z people around here. I've still yet to see another S30 besides mine ever. Heathhh, where in Michigan are you?
  17. I picked this beast up over the weekend so I have to get it running before I can get back to work on the Z: There will be some more progress soon though.
  18. Useless update but the Z saw sunlight today for the first time in a while: I had to make room to fix up old DD before I sell it and to fix up the new DD after I pick it up tomorrow. After those are done I should be able to get some work done on this project.
  19. The plan is either an m112 setup or a large turbo down the road, so it'll need it then. It should also help with stiffening up the chassis. The shifter is from an 03-04 Cobra with the T-56. If you're interested, PM me with an offer on it (just cleared out my inbox). As far as the pan goes, I was thinking I would just fab something up once I get the engine situated in the engine bay.
  20. The roll cage kit showed up at my house. I can't wait to check it out when I go home for break. Also, the new forum software doesn't seem to like the number of pictures in my first post haha.
  21. Stuff that I won't be needing: Wiring harness: Motor after its little diet: How things looked when I left to head back to MSU: I'll be back for spring break in a couple weeks, and I plan on getting a lot done then.
  22. A couple of mufflers for the exhaust I plan on building: My Lincoln 4V motor in the back of the van: Out of the van and onto the pallet:
  23. Now for the fun stuff. T-56 with some goodies: Cobra forged crank and Teskid aluminum block: 4.6 vs. SBC:
  24. Some old pics of tearing the chassis apart that I forgot to upload, including the previous owner's terrible quarter panel install and the random broke fuel pump and filter:
