  1. Looks like a real deal Jason. The center lines and flat black look way cool too! John C
  2. If I remember correctly my 71 240 weighed 2630 with an aluminum headed 406 small block and a 700 R4 trans. John C
  3. Brain fade........ it'll get you in these long winter months . John C
  4. The only way you might have a chance to stop your( OUR )obsession is to see a shrink. I don't know which is cheaper though. My wife is always giving me a hard time about all the money I am spending on cars.So I told her I'd give them up and start spending my extra cash and time in ATC'S, hunting, fishing,golfing..... she got the point. John C
  5. I'm running 125 -150 hp plate system.Even with drag radials or slicks I can only use it in second and third due to such an increase in torque. 125 hp nitrous systems can be run with mild small blocks, as long as you have good ignition and feul systems. John C
  6. Holy spaghetti headers! What does it fit? John C
  7. Andrew, Here's 4 pics of my heap at this adress. http://www.geocities.com/triplejanda1999/mellow240.html
  8. Andrew, I had taken a few digital pics last fall and have them loaded in my computer, but I have no idea on how to post them.I also have videos of my car at the races. John C
  9. Andrew, Thanks for the info, but I have one more question. Does your header have a flange at the end of the collector to bolt your exhaust on? P.S. The first race around here is May 5th, which means you and Scottie have a little over 2 months to get into the 10's and then I'm shooting for high 9's.... I hope. John C
  10. Richard, Bears in Ontario Canada builds NHRA legal cages to your own dimensions, and they would probably sell you the pipe to build your own roll bar. John C
  11. Chris, I have the super comp hookers from Summit designed for the 240.They were bought around 6 years ago,so I don't know if they are still available. The small Msd distributor I am using has around 3/4 of an inch clearance from the firewall. Hope this helps. John C
  12. I am running full lenth 1 5/8 Hookers, but I'd like to step up to 1 3/4. How well does your 1 3/4's fit Andrew? How far is your engine set back? John C
  13. I'd say its the most fun one can have from the waist up!Gotta love those g's!
  14. Ron, Could you please e-mail a picture as well,I need to make my cell legal. Thanks John C
  15. Scottie, What ever you use, make sure your block and studs are clean and dry of oil, water or antifreeze. Also let your sealant dry before adding any fluids.
  16. Scottie, Teflon thread tape should work.
  17. I have my rear bar off and front bar on and run an open diff. I don't have any wheel hop at all and was told by a guy at the track that the car was pulling both front tires 1 to 2 inches evenly. I haven't had any time to dial my carb or suspension yet ,but I know there's lots of room for improvement. Your best bet Jeff is to make 3 runs with the rear bar hooked up,and three unhooked. Good luck!

    Solid rear end

Pete , I will try and get a couple of pics this weekend of the halfshaft loops but I don't know how to send them since my computer skills are very poor.

    Solid rear end

Jeff I have had great luck with the independant rear and I love the handling .I was worried at one time they couldn't stand up. I think becuase my z has an automatic, stock coils and no rear sway bar is why it still lives. I had installed 4 half shaft loops before my last race with the slicks for piece of mind, ran consistant 1.60 60 foot times and cut .550 lights. Proving if you take into account the squat, the z cars can react too.
  20. Thanks for the info guys. I am gathering stronger parts now in case I need them next year.I guess I can count myself very lucky since there hasn't been any rear suspension breakage yet. John
  21. It's true about the NHRA rule concerning the feul cell being inside the passenger compartment,as I was warned to change it before I returned to the strip. I have also noticed that if the poly feul cells staps are tightend to much they will collaspe the cell top and bottom.I run a harwood 8 gallon cell with foam and 2 outlets,it's small and compact with no collapsing. Blkmgk I like the idea of the trap door above the cell, sounds NHRA legal.
  22. Thanks for the info guys, but I still have a question on the axle stub size. I picked up an early 280z,76 I think and I want to know if the stub is larger at the bearing surface?I understand it has a 27 spline instead of the 240's 25. I would like to have the largest, strogest stub shafts possible . Thanks.
  23. I need to know what year cv joint and largest stub shaft combo will fit my 71 240? I have located a 79 280zx with cv's. Will the stub shafts and cv's work? My 240 already has an r200 ceter. Thanks.
  24. Tony, the trans bolt patern on the 301 is a buick, olds, pontiac only. There are some older dual bolt patern trans around that fit both chev and bop. A sbc engine will bolt into your clip if you use chevy frame mounts.
