  1. well after doing some hunting for a vband that will fit my HX35W and not finding a good solution. I measured my HX40 to find that the Vband is 3" !! i have a 3"vband that fits this Im going to install the HX40 so i can simplify my exhaust lay out A little pissed since i have everthing together and running Silver lining though is that the shaft play on the HX40 is allot tighter than the 35 besides being a higher number are there any benifits or dissadvatages between these 2 turbos? Matt
  2. Thanks for the tips Randy I have already got the 3 coil drivers, Ign-6 coil, and hall sensor from DIY I was looking at the single coil set up but it was not as cost effective and not sure of the gains in performance. It might look a little better having one coil per plug but it could just be more complicated If i can get the Hal sensor to work with my current set up then i can trouble shoot the upgrade in stages Step 1 Hal sensor and stock CAS wheel mod, if everything works go to step 2 Step 2 Instal coil drivers into my MS2 and mount IGN-6 ,if everything works then go to step 3 Step 3 Enjoy Matt
  3. If i install the Hal sensor, will this act the same as the CAS? I may do this before digging into the soldering of the coil drivers Is it a direct replacment? Pretty sure both are 3 wires
  4. Wow nice instal. Very clean. I bought the threaded Hal sensor. I may just use an angle piece of aluminum and use he cas engine mount. Looks like the hardest part of the instal is mounting the coil drivers to my ms2 I'll post my pics when I do the mods. Hoping I can get a better running and quicker starting car with this upgrade. .
  5. all fired up this weekend Still no Exhaust and it needs a tune Also got my parts in for my EDIS Ill set that up when i get her running well again. Just to make sure everything is working well before i change anything. Matt
  6. some more progress picked up some exhaust studs as well as a silicon 90 to tie into my old intercooler tubing couple more bits and i can fire her up again
  7. Picking up my coil pack, coil drivers and Ign 6 today Looking forward to the swap Matt
  8. Interesting, Im temped to pull the head of for further investigation and just swap the head gasket for good measure. If i go that far and everything looks ok i may just re ring the pistons while im at it... Head gasket is only a couple years old and i havent put allot of miles on it so ill prob leave it as is and keep a closer eye on the plugs I tried the iridium plugs but didn't notice anything better as far as performance, ill go back to reg plugs when everything goes back together. For the injectors im going to get them cleaned, we will see how much crap comes out of them. Ill be sure to post picture of the cleaning. I have head studs so ill re-torque everything down a little tighter as well and see how it goes Id like to upgrade my ignition to EDIS as well but thats after the basics are sorted Matt
  9. its not consistant tho there is no smoke from the exhaust no milky oil everything seamed to run fine before i shut it off if you look at my exhaust ports at the top 1,2,4 are white but the plugs tell a different story 1,6 are white and 2,3,4,5 are black...
  10. i took them off in the rain so some of those drops "could" be water
  11. FINALY pulled the plugs today, 1,6 are white and the rest are black & oily.... Check it out feels odd showing my dirty spark plugs hahaha they dont look good doc
  12. a little progress i got a tail waste gate from a friend so i had to use that it had 2 springs a 15psi and 7 im going to run the 7 for now then switch to the 15 excited to see how she runs with a new turbo
  13. I agree, "I though" it was leaky injectors but have not had a chance to check this way until now I dont really see a problem with it leaking down when the engine is off. Is there a downside to this? I havenet taken the plugs out yet it was 124 and 356 that were different The AFRs are across all cylinders as well so is just an average so its hard to tell what each cylinder is doing... without checking plugs, ill take a look today and take some pics
  14. B. whisky the welds on the manifold are because i needed to straighten it a whole back, i cut it and bent it back " i knew someone would pick up on that" Letitsnow: I might have a friend with an extra external waste gate lying around, I wont fully install until i have confirmed with him. I really want to run a screamer pipe, they sound amazing. I guess the HX35w is a little different. I have an HX40 as well but havent test fit it. Big-Phil Thats what im looking for, i pulled everything apart to fix exhaust leaks but found the T3 had to much shaft play. Time to swap the turbo i had in storage for the last couple years... I know you have had a few different set ups but do you remember the difference in spool time to the T3? Also do you have an old Map for the Holset Im running megasquirt as well. Been following your builds love your RB30 Matt
  15. Well the time has come to swap my stock T3 with the holset i had kicking around I've re-drilled the mounting holes on the turbo, broke a few drill bits but surprised how easy it was to drill Ive read that some guys needed to put a spacer to clear the manifold.. looks like mine is fine. its tight but it clears fabricating the waste gate actuator from the T3 to fit on the holset...then i ran out of steam for the day when i couldnt find a part i just had hehe Matt
  16. Im pretty sure its batch but ill have to investigate further when i get this turbo installed I did a check on my injectors, they do not leak. I suspected this because my fuel pressure drops when i turn the car off. It goes back to normal pretty quick when the pump goes on so this seam ok on that front...
  17. Weekend projects are great, Mine started with taking the turbo and exhaust manifold off to fix the exhaust leaks Then i found out that the turbo had allot of shaft play... Not putting that back in. I have a Holset HX35w that ive been waiting to put in so no big deal, just a bunch of fab work Looking in the exhaust ports i found that ports 1,2,4 are white and 3,5,6 are black Also the inlet and outlet on the turbo are white so the leanness is winning by the time it hits the turbo I've been trying to lean out my regular driving AFR's with my mega squirt 14:1 out of boost 12ish in boost Do you think i have bad injectors or just a bad tune? the white exhaust scares me a little My fuel rail looses pressure as well so i have been suspecting i have leaky injectors as well, im going to pressurize the rail with the manifold off the engine to check that and see what happens maybe the same injectors are leaking... Matt
  18. I have a HX40 if your interested still
  19. do u have the link to your nico thread
  20. This is true, Question # 1 is it plugged in? I try to keep in simple and start from the start, i do this at work ALL the time but when its my own stuff i revert to my 16 year old self that started from the finish and work his way back with frustration ha well not 100% but you know. This adventure makes me want to rewire my whole car, just imagine how everything would work with new wires..... But it always brakes down to Time vs Money
  21. Well after the grounding wire came off the starter solenoid when i was teaching my girlfriend how to drive manual "she thinks she broke my car when she stalled it" the magivering it to get home. Then after installing a new solenoid. The car has never started so well i guess the weak connection from the starter motor to solenoid was drawing so much power that it was making the ignition hard to spark off Well it does feel like a whole new car now
  22. Thinking of swapping back to a NA engine, may be interested in trading my engine for a NA. Anyone ever went back to the stock side of things from turbo Reason: To tune my car for better gas milage and simplify my whole set up. Been reading allot of http://www.speedhunters.com/ and love the clean look of the engine bay. Unfortunately, i had tossed my NA engine when i move and dont have it anymore Anyone have one or would like to trade for a turbo engine?
  23. Saw a set of these for cheep If i install the coil drivers and a hall sensor pic up, can i use these coil on plugs with my MS2? Matt
