  1. OK, I'm ready to buy the intercooler piping. I had a fellow Z enthusiast come help me today, and he said that with the size of my turbo (T4), I should not go any smaller than 2.5 piping. He also said that I oughta use 2 electric fans. One of his ideas was to mount one behind the radiator, and one between the radiator and IC. Is this a decent idea? BTW he has a 3.1 stroker turbo L28 in his '91 Jag, so he has never done this in an S30 before. I know that the general concensus here is that 2.25 was the easiest fit. Is 2.5 possible using electric fans with a stock dizzy location? Yes I have read all posts.

    Thanks.

  2. I have the L88 hood scoop on my 73 now. I get compliments on it all the time, and it sets my z apart aesthetically. Currently it is not a functional cowl induction. You have to cut it when you buy it. I am about to have mine cut for CI as soon as I'm finish the turbo swap. I can't ever get pics to load on here but I'll email you some if you like to see how it looks.

  3. When swapping in the new wiring harness (83 turbo), are there any existing wires from from the stock electrical that are taken out/replaced or is the new harness a complete add-on to everything that's there? (Minus the wires that won't apply). It's going into a '73.

I was curious as to what type of gains I would get from making a custom cold air intake. I noticed that the "bumble bee" looking Z routed his through the top of the radiator support where my IC is. Is the bottom hole large enough to run it through there? BTW next part I'm ordering is a heat shield for the turbo. That should clean up the look of that ugly compressor.

  5. The only true Z fans in 350z's were the owners that had them the first 4 months or so when they came out. Many of them were S30 owners in their younger days. These would always wave, honk, thumbs up etc. Most the cats that have them now have no connection with the 73-96 crowd. Can't wait to get my car running so I can teach them to respect the elder Z

  6. John,

How does the hood you describe compare too the CF hood that motorsport just started selling? I believe There's is complete for $700-750. Is that the normal price for CF hoods? Seems pricey. Is the weight loss (time gains) really that singnificant or is just another look cool and trendy while getting some performance gain as a benefit?

  7. The owner of Alt Z in Huntington beach has dropped an Rb25det in his 240 and made motor mounts for it. I went by and saw it as I pondered the same swap. Call him up if you're serious and he may be able to give you a few tips. 240 hoke you're right. Lots of RB26 info but not much 25. I guess most people aren't much in favor of the rb25 motor.

  8. Hey that would be great. I just bought a new grill so its on! I lived in newport for 5 five years. Wish I had known there was a z meet in huntington. I'll come down to the next meet on the 10nth and see what we can get together. Let me know when's a good time to work on the car. I'll have the barbeque and tools ready. Thanks a lot

  9. Well, I've actually done a lot of the work myself under mechanical supervision, including, taking out the first motor and sticking the second one in. I did the simple bolt on stuff like intake, dizzy, turbo, exhaust manifold, and I can put the cooling together. But I've never touched a FI system before, and basically figured out how the injectors and fuel rail went on pretty easy. Next step is to figure out the FPR, fuel pump, and then ignition, then wiring. I'm sure I can figure it all out, and just scared of messing something up and flushing thousands down the toilet. But it's gotta get done. Not doing any good sitting in the driveway.

  10. Hey I was wondering if anyone here was part of the group z club that meets in buena park next thursday at fuddruckers. My mechanic buddies have abandoned me on my project with about a 2-4 days left of work to do, for someone who knows what their doing. Anyway, I'm pretty much a rock when it comes to putting a car together. I have the motor/trans in, intake, injectors, exhaust manifold/turbo bolted up. What I have left is wiring (which luckily is all labeled) ignition, fuel system, cooling, and gauges to hook up (which I have 0 knowledge about) but I figured if I saw someone else's swap and took a whole bunch of really good pictures, along with the manuals I might be able to finish the thing by myself. So if any turbo guys live locally, maybe I could pay a visit to see your car. I figure if I do a little at a time I could have the car running by October.

BTW, I may be asking some incredibly simple minded question as far as mechanics go on this board. I will further exhaust my research before asking them but please bare with me as this is the first car I have ever worked on in my life. Everyone's been a great help so far. I appreciate all the help.

  11. I've never messed with wiring the ignition on the car (or much else for that matter) and my knowledgeable friends have abandoned me on this project so please forgive my ignorance.

Ok, so I'm using a Z31 turbo coil and HKS twin power. When reading the instructions for the twin power it seemed that all the wiring comes from the twin power and connects to the coil. Is this correct? Or is there additional wiring that is supposed to be with the coil itself that I need to find? If so I suppose I will take a trip the JY and check it out. If anyone has a similar setup w/ some pics, I would be happy to see them.

    Thanks.

  12. Ok, I might get flamed for asking for this, but............

I have the chilton's manual for my 240z, however I'm doing a turbo conversion, and was wondering if anyone had the hayne's/chilton for the the 81-83zxt. I just need the page with the wiring diagram, and didn't feel like paying for an extra book for the one page if anyone had a scan of it that they could post. I know its being cheap but budgets tight. If noone can I suppose I'll buy another book for the page. If someone could though, I'd greatly appreciate it.

    Thanks

  13. cygnusx1,

Is that kit specific to the Zcar? $250 sounds like a good price. Are you saying that with a little hacking the kit just hooks up? Is there any advantage of piecing a mandrel bent kit together opposed to using this one? Who is the retailer of this kit on Ebay? I'm probably going to start intercooling in a few weeks and this kit looks pretty good. Thanks BTW, slow n rusty, do you think the owners of those cars would mind you emailing me those pics? That would be much appreciated. Thanks

  14. My friend and I are about ready to start the wiring on my project 240z turbo conversion. My buddy (who is much more mechanically inclined than I) said that we need to drill a hole through the firewall and run the harness through there. My question is, is there any specific spot that is recommended for drilling the hole? And is there any place recommended against? There is no current spot that already exist to run it through as far as I can see. Thanks for the help.
