In that case, I have a few questions. I have not yet started the motor since rebuild. If I were to get the ECU modified would I need to do that after I've broken in the motor (say with stock injectors)? I'm guessing it would have to have a specific set tune for 15psi opposed to 6 psi. I thought that making different maps for low and high boost would be the advantage of using an aftermarket ems. I've been now contemplating just letting the car sit until I can afford a haltech or sds. Or buying stock injectors and running the car stock until I can afford the ems and switch back to my 500cc injectors. BTW where would I have the ECU modified? Anyone else on here who's used modified ECU vs. sds, haltech, ect. please pipe in with your opinion.

Is it something about the z31 ecu specifically that doesn't respond well to piggybacks? I see the e-manage used on a lot of high boosted cars. Damn. Maybe I'll just have to let my car sit another six months while save up for a haltech or something. I do have the extra wires that you mentioned wired with the coil. Oh well. I knew the car would run like crap with those injectors, I just wanted to see if it would start first and then set a map with the e-manage. I bought this motor rebuilt from a member here so I have never ran it and don't have any of the stock stuff (injectors). I guess I'll keep watching for a group buy on ems's. Anyone got a good car cover they recommend?

OK I have an l28et w/a z31ecu. I checked the firing order and turned the dizzy to no avail. Another problem I'm having is that I can't figure how to wire the fuel pump so that it only runs when the car is on. It runs as soon as I hook up the battery (I posted this in the fuel section and got no advice). Well I have 500cc injectors that I plan to control with a greddy e-manage. I was trying to fire up the car on the z31 ecu w/out the e-manage so that it wasn't a variable if the car didn't start. I realized the car would probably run super rich but I figured it would still fire so I would at least know that I had it wired properly. Is this a wrong assumption? BTW way when I crank the car, it spins but does not fire. What else should I check? Could it be the injectors that won't let it spark? I get about 40 psi of fuel when I crank the car. I'm all out of ideas at this point other then investing in a nicer car cover.

yeah what it says up there. I have it going straight to the battery. L28et in a 240z. Also, I tried firing the car up yesterday on a quarter tank and couldn't get any fuel pressure. Does the tank have to be full to a point to start it? I know there's issues when not having a sump (which is in the future). Well I'm going to get some gas and see if I can answer my own question. I only filled it up 1/4 per advice from someone to try and get my 500cc inj to fire with the z31 computer (I have a piggy back but wanna try and start it stock before installing it.

OOh I think your on to something, I may have grounded it to the wall
-
I tried starting up the car for the first time yesterday and when I went to spin it one of the ground wires that goes to the intake manifold (I have it on the firewall) completely fried. What happened?
-
OK I wanna know theoretically would an l28et run (turn over not run good) with 500cc injectors on a z31 computer? I'm gonna be using a piggy back computers to handle the injectors but wanna get the thing running before confusing myself with the piggy back. Do you think the car will actually turn on with this large of injectors? Also I'm running a Walbro GSL390 fuel pump, JSK fuel rail, and Aeromotive FPR.

OOps sorry I didn't have the right folder public. Please click the link again and click on the photo labeled wiring

In that case We'll just jump on it and see what happens. I'm going from nothing to z31 ecu. None of the harness is hooked up. I will be using a piggy back ems. Thanks for the help

Well I talked to my buddy who's been helping me thus far. He said to get him the diagrams and he'll look over them tommorow and see if it's something he can tackle. The problem is he's scared if he screws something up that the whole thing will go kaboom. Is this really possibe/probable? Or would it just not run right until the problem was addressed?

I was wondering if there was anyone in the Socal area who has done this before with the z31ecu. Would any mobile mechanic be able to do this with a wiring diagram? Anyone know how much this would cost me? How much should I pay for a job like this?

Hey guys, tonight at 8:00, the history channel is doing a full special on the 240z. Just wanted to give you heads up.
-
Thanks, I better check that out. I've never used one before. Thats why I posted the pics. Hopefully any major mistakes can be seen in the pics. Hey Z-gad i'm gonna video tape the first blowup, I mean startup and post it for sure.

Please ignore the fittings on the fuel rail as it is a mickey mouse job. I will be using two 45's instead of all those couplers, the shop was out of them though. The swap is almost done. Still gotta wire it (you can see the harness sitting in there) and get an exhaust. Also I'm using the Z31 turbo coil, but I havent replaced it yet. I got it in my garage though. After the wiring's done I'll be replacing the MSD ignition amp for the HKS twin power which is also in my garage. Hoping to have it on the road by next Saturday. OH yeah and I got the fuel filter on backwards too. The mexican guy in the pic is my dear friend Jose who saved me from a project that was way over my head.

ok I went to pep boys, and the guy told me that I could make an intake out of flex tubing from home depot. I thought it sounded like a good idea, however the tubing is ribbed inside and out. Would that noticeably affect my airflow?

I have a '73 with an l28et. My IC piping is routed the same as Bastaad525 and Cygnusx (using both holes at the top two ends of the radiator) I have a '45 coupler off the TB to clear the dizzy and my greddy type R bov is mounted pointing downwards. The problem is that my air filter is to big to clear anything down there (mainly the bov). So I'm wondering if I should route some '3 aluminum piping under the radiator and upwards behind the grill. My other option is buy the smallest air filter I can find and just doing a 45' downwards where the sway bar is. Though I have read some concerns about being too close to the ground and sucking up water. Is there anything wrong doing it the first way? I don't feel like buying another $100 air filter. Also is there any cheaper material that I could use from say home depot to route it? 90' bends in aluminum and 3' couplers get expensive (for me). Any advice is welcomed. Thanks

If not how would I cipher it out, and is there any additive I could stick in there to help out? What would you suggest?
-
Definitely interested. Cobra style sounds cool.

Well a friend of mine said that he would take my pipes to get polished from a shop that owed him, while I have been out of state. 1 mo. later and he still hasn't gotten to it. Big surprise. OK question is I've never done any polishing before, and was curious if a good job could be done at home in say an 8-10 hr. period? The shop will take a week to get it back to me and I need to get my car running as soon as I get back. BTW the metal's SS. Is it possible to do a polish job after installing the piping? If so I would rather go that route as I'm tired of this car being down. I have it routed exactly like Cygnus and Bastaad. Any suggestions?

I have been running the BR8-ES
Great. Just who I wanted to hear from. Thanks.

I was set on this swap before I decided to purchase the l28et setup. 6k later I'm wondering if I should have done the rb25 now seeing the pics cause it looks so cool, and of course considering its potential. Well I suppose I made the right decision seeing that this was my first ever swap and still don't have it running yet. The Rb may have never been running and this is my daily driver
. Hey I'm curious what size turbo will you be running on this setup? What type of HP numbers are you shooting for? Looks awesome so far. Hey James (and RB25ers) I'm curious what the power band/curve is on these engines are like compared to the LTurbo motors?
-
Its that 250ish and above or up to 250? Would he recommend something different for higher hp applications? Or would those do fine?
-
For all the L28et guys, I was wondering what's the most RWHP you have been able to obtain safely before having to use higher octane fuel (specifically from 91)? What is your CR? What type of EMS are/were you using?

Damn I wish he'd of been selling that 6 mo. ago. I could have bought it ez. Oh well. My rearend couldn't handle more than the setup I'm doing now but the jawdrop factor when you open the hood with a RB is priceless.
