Thanks Terry! Mike

Well tonight I agreed to purchase a harness bar and tail lites from a guys C5 corvette. THe taillites will be donor'ed to my Zcar project. I've never been a fan of the factory lites, and I'm obviously a fan of the Vette's, so I'll be doing a fiberglass or sheetsteel bolt in panel with those lites! I'll mock something up when they come in! Mike 8)

Electric Trailer Brake Controller in a 98 Chevy Z71???
Mikelly replied to Mikelly's topic in Non Tech Board
Close. Mine has four wires... A white, Black, Red (12Volt) and Blue. I'll have to do some research... But my owners manual shows (And I found it) the reddish orange lead and the blue wire at the rear left framerail. Now getting it all to match up under the dash is the problem. NO documentation that I could find anywhere to date! Mike 8) -

Well Tim, your lead is a DEAD END in that thread, but I'll post another. The 98 Model was the last year PREVIOUS to the conveniant little gizmo adapter you can buy from chevy and just "Plug in". But I forgot about chevyTalk, so you aren't completely wrong! Mike 8) -

Electric Trailer Brake Controller in a 98 Chevy Z71???
Mikelly replied to Mikelly's topic in Non Tech Board
BZZT Wrong Answer Weasil Tamer! I have gone through every page of the owners manual and the useless Haynes manual as well... Owners manual was kind enough to show the wiring harness and extra wire leads in the rear, where the hitch is, but gave ZERO mention of connections for the electric brake control box... Nice try there spanky! NEXT! 8) Mike -
Anyone ever wire electric trailer brakes into a Chevy 98 model Z71 1/2 ton 4X4? I have the six plug connector wired into the rear harned, found the additional leads, and wired everything in at the rear bumper. However, under the dash, I have yet to find the wiring for the electric brake controller box. Any tips or assistance would be wonderful! Mike 8)

In comparison I'm getting 26-28MPG in my 99C5 Corvette (T56 equipped) when I'm cruising on the highway at 70mph. My car weighs in at 3250# with fuel. That just give you something to throw your numbers against. Only changes to my motor are the Borla XR1 Catback and the GMS Twin Filter cold air kit that replaces the airbox. mike

My LS1 Will Need a new home...
Mikelly replied to Mikelly's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
This motor is CURRENTLY in my 99 C5 Corvette. I'm driving it everyday with no issues. The motor comes as stated... above, with everything except the accessories, coilpacks, and oil pan. It will have the intake, exhaust manifolds, and heads. It will otherwise be a complete motor. Why am I selling it? I am currently building another motor that will have costum head work, a custom cam, forged pistons and rods. This motor has 98K+ miles on it, uses NO oil, and runs perfect. mike -
I just got a 74 260z what swap is the best to put in?

Briggs and Straton 5HP from a Lowes push mower... Should be fine! OK, OK, on a serious note, I'd recommend deciding what your REALISTIC budget is and go from there... First... READ READ READ. I'm on my second Hybrid Build and I've used a 383 stroker Chevy both times, R200/ T56 the first time and this time I'll use the R230/ T5 Gforce combo. You need to decide what your intended goal for the car will be, then go from there. These cars weigh about 2800# fully built, so I wouldn't go crazy and shoot for 500HP, because you won't be able to live with it daily and you won't be able to use the power with some serious added work to the suspension and brakes. If it were me, and I was starting all over, I'd do a Chevy LS1 Swap into a Z. Aluminum motor, excellent FI, And the aftermarket is just now releasing TONS of gofast parts for them. Mike -
YUp, I'm already planning for it guys... The LS1 in my Vette will need a new home in July timeframe. The motor will be complete less coil packs, accesories and oil pan. Everything else will be on it, including the intake and exhaust manifolds. It will also come with a GMS twin air intake when pulled since I'll need something larger for the Z06 TB. Not sure what I'll ask for it, but the motor has had no issues, and has run Mobile1 Synthetics since day one, and no cheap filters. What are these motors going for there days?? Mike

John Makes some good points... But it doesn't HURT to have others out there making parts as well. Tim H. came up with a GREAT ALTERNATIVE for the R230 CV adapter/ Axle and immediately guys were mentioning MMS and Ross... All I'm saying is, and I've said this before, Competition is good and only drive the market and THE CONSUMER wins. Jamie, Put me down for a set of whatever you make... Guaranteed it will be cheaper than the other solutions out there, and likely as good or better. And TIM H., If you are READING THIS, PACKAGE that damned R230 Axle/ adapter package and sell it! 8) ALL HAIL the wonders of the free market base. Mike

This is the SAME brake upgrade that is on the FORD COBRA Mustang and the CHEVY C5 CORVETTE. It is like the HAND of GOD grabbing you and stopping you! ...I'm a little biased, because Jamie used to machine control arms for me, but his work is flawless and the parts will be top shelf. Icing on the cake is these will be OVER the COUNTER auto parts supplier parts! Can't beat that guys! 8) Mike
-
Well it looks nice in My opinion, and with a fiberglass euro rear bumper, I think it would be bitchin'. Might have to see who the supplier is and try to get me one! Mike

LS1 Vette Motor Update... Prices inside!
Mikelly replied to Mikelly's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
Dude, I'm having trouble hooking up with it in stock trim. I actually thought about bagging the whole engine thing early on, but I was too deep into the process. I want to drive this thing on the track, not fight TOO MUCH power. A supercharger would be WAY overkill... And in a Zcar? Heck, the reduced weight of the LS1 will cause traction problems to only be a BIGGER issue! Although after hearing some of the weights folks are claiming these days, I'm thinking 2300# is unrealistic... Pete P.s 73 is a good example... 2800# sure doesn't make for a light weight car. 8) Mike -
LS1 Vette Motor Update... Prices inside!

The kit comes with the CAM, Springs and pushrods, as well as required gaskets. Here is the link: http://www.thunderracing.com/catalog/?action=vshop&vid=7&pcid=51 It is the 224/224 556 lift kit. Scott, this motor is going in my 99 C5 Vette, not the Z. My Z's 383 stroker will make more HP cheaper with forged bottom end... This list includes some pricey bits, like the LGM SS headers, and the Forged Pistons. I could have gone cheaper on both, but chose to go all the way, since I'm not sure what the future will hold for the car, and I wanted it to be bomb proof. Mike -

It seems we go through periods of growing pains and adjustments. Membership grows. Folks, who are accustomed to the free for all way that life is on the rest of the web, aren't ready to be reined in and worlds collide. The last few weeks have seen some stresses brought to the board in the form of suspected scammers, people being disrespectful of each other, and down right rude behavior. In the early years, I spent time thinking it was the younger generation. Then we had some serious conflicts with some middle-aged members. Then the thirty something crowd butted heads with us, and so now I'm of the opinion that it is not generational... People just suck. OK, well some people just suck. How's that? This site is what it is. We're all here for the love of creating, inventing, and in general, modifying cars. Mainly the Datsun generation 1 Zcar, with the other models following suit. Reality being what it is, many members have other cars they are building as well. We are evolving into a car-engineering site, regardless of the fact that we don't often want to admit it. However, this evolutionary change has not changed our values, rules or intent for the site. Further, Recently (As recent as this past weekend, but not just one incident) we have had several members feel they were ripped off by other members. If you sell an item represented as in a specific condition and the buying member can prove that you were dishonest, I'm gonna recommend banning of the person from here on out. The proof MUST be there in the form of documentation, pictures, and any other e-mail evidence. I really detest the thought that some members are preying upon others and being dishonest about the items they wish to sell. This isn't "LAW" yet, but I'm pushing for it, so be forwarned. The most recent flame wars by a few members have brought about the dreaded "BAN" word again, and this always leaves a bitter taste in people’s mouths... Yea, I know, I know... Free speech and all. Bottom line is read the rules and live by them. Plain and simple. You are free to leave if you don't like them, but stay if you can live with them. Finally, I know it always seems that "Mike is at it again" , but I really don't mind reminding folks why we are here... and as far as that goes, remember guys, they are just cars. We lost a member this past week... A life, a HUMAN BEING. It could be you, or the loved one sitting right next to you. It could have been me, which in some cases would probably have brought about cheers, but remember they are just cars, and these are just discussions about them. Be objective when you post, and don't, under ANY circumstances take things too seriously. Thanks, and now back to our regular programming! 8) Mike

Well all it takes is time spent around other projects or other cars to change your mind. If space and or money were a real issue, My Z would have been gone a while ago, and I tried to sell it... VERY recently, then found a buyer and backed out. However, The Z sits while the Vette gets ALL the attention and MONEY right now... Wonder why that is? Comfort, style, leather, sound, suspension, brakes, Power? YUP! Good for you Tim. Hope you get what it is worth... If I could get what I want out of mine right now, I'd terminate completion and move it along to someone else and make room in the garage for a boat or dirt bike! Mike
