Nice work! I am a stickler for the necessecity of sideskirts though. IMO they tie the wide front and wide rear end together, otherwise is seems something is missing in the middle. Very clean work though, I like you taillight design. Seems somewhat reminicient of the GT40.

I like SBC 400 's drawing. I still mine a lot, but nice work SBC 400. Definitely some IMSA influence there. The only problem I see with the drawing (being critical now, although you definitely have the talent) is that some components are scaled quite right. For instance the headlight buckets. They look huge. Nice style though, i was wondering what a diffuser on the front would look like on a 240Z, now I know
and I'm liking it.Sorry GB20, but I'm not feeling the whole muscle car theme. Seems to wanna be. It is like your trying to say I want an elenor but can't afford one, so make a "fake" one. You'll never be satisfied since it won't be the real thing. Just my opinion though. I'm not hating on "muscled" 240z's, it's just not my thing.
From a design perspective yours looks way to busy with all the vents thrown together in one place. Maybe spread things out a bit, and the large nose looks way out of place. I see that you are trying to integrate the old mustage tails on the Z, that would probably look pretty good since they are of similar size and shape of the 240's tails, I'd like to see that done. Keep practicing. I got a reccomendation that works really good. Print out a Z picture in grayscale then draw your modifications over the picture with a pen that can bleed through the paper. Then everything else that was unchanged trace over with the pen. flip the paper over and VOILA! the new design is made, and in near perfect scale, you can't go wrong this way. As a matter of fact, all the 240 drawings I 've done thus far in this thread were done using the same picture, and you would never no since they all look different

make that two revisions. I know the rear hatch area line is scraggly (I did this this revision of the big wing in paint so bear with the crappy line)

Here is the second attempt. Still looks kinda tall but less aggressive and fit the car's age better I think. Please comment, reccommendations, flaming, praises, you get the idea.

Alright, alright, alright now thats what I talking about, feedback. You guys are sparking some ideas in my head, I agree that fascia makes the front look way too tall and the gaping holes aren't quite fitting the 240 the way they do the 280zx.

Like always please comment. The intention with this drawing was the same as the 280zx, four inches wider in the rear, two in the front (on each side). Plus the rear "flare" "bleeds" into the door to give a nice smooth transition (just like the 280zx sketches).

I guess that is something I should pick up on some day. Yeah you got the right message from my headlights, kinda fits with the engine plans and with everything else IMO. GT4 nice, I see you lowered the Z.
I did the same thing in GT4. Great idea, my guess it that you took a pic of the TV, right? Can't wait to see the finished 3D model. I think I am going to check into Michaels tomarrow and see if they have a 280zx model car. I to would like to make a 3D model, but I don't know the computer stuff, but I can sculpt by hand so I think modifying a model car couldn't be to bad. You know assemble the body and add a bunch of some kind of material. Should work, I think. -

Well personally I am not feeling your headlight bucket, entirely. I agree with Blueovalz that it does throw off the line and it doesn't really flow smoothly into the fender line. And you intentions are to widen the bucket. This is one thing I am slowly realizing will have to happen in order to both make the staggered lights work without interfering with one another and to compliment the widened fenders. So I like your widening idea but cutting back on the length of the bucket seems kinda taking a step back (to the S30 style bucket IMO).I don't blame you for backing out of the chopping idea. I tried it once on a picture and realized heh! the 280zx does need material removed it needs some added and it needs to sit a lot lower. Hence the creation of sideskirts larger front valance, etc.

at least not in the computer Oh and if you want to give the headlight bucket a more aggresive look then I reccomend angling the inside line of the headlight bucket that follows the line on the hood. This adds to "attitude" of the car. Think about it, headlights on a car are its "eyes". Eyes on a person say a lot about them. Same goes for cars. What I am trying to say is, are your headlights conveying the message you want them to? Think it it more like this (the whole eye thing) versus I'll chop the headlight bucket because it looks better (wrong way to think of it IMO) For some reason (no offense guys) but the buckets always looked kinda "sleepy or drowsy" on the 280zx and adding this angle would make them "awake" and "a little angry". Of course this seems fitting for my ideas which are quite aggressive. This idea might not for you gollum, it all depends how aggressive you want to car to look. Mine has to me a menace, hence the aggressive headlights, that is message I want to convey, mean viscious, and more that just good looks, they mean business.
Oh by the way S30 guys I should have pics posted tomarrow night of what the S30 could look like like with my now "signature" aerokit, and headlights. and of course the widebody. I think you will like it. I have kept a lot of OE style to it but it looks really mean. I am kind of envious of it. It almost looks better on the S30, damnit, oh well, I guess I just made two sexy car options that are IMO to die for (not literally).
Sorry Gollum, couldn't resist. Great 3D modeling work. The side shot you showed, is your bucket on top of a picture, or on top of your progress of the 280zx in the 3D modeling program you're using?

What is underneath the B pillar piece? Would a flush fit sheet metal job look better. I have limo tinted windows so that piece kinda blends in. I just wish it didn't protrude so much.

Good point! I never have really liked how those B-pillar pieces stuck out off the car. A more flush fit would look better now that you bring it up. I agree with you on the black idea (not carbon) but gloss black or "black chrome" would look good right there now that I think about it.

Trust me, it'll be a little bit before I can pull that together. Although, my buddy J in VA is also in the near future, working with CF for S130s. Settle on a design, and we can talk to him about it.

Looking good!!!About the chrome inserts' date=' Are you talking about the 3 horizontal "dashes" in the rear? I think chrome would be a bad idea. When you look at any super car these days I can't think of any that have chrome anything. It would look out of place. Try a body line instead, you know two different angles meeting.

Yeah the three dashes are supposed to be the chrome inserts. Just a subtle additive that adds a little class. I don't want that car look too much like a race car
, but I want it to function like one Plus the three dashes compliment the window trim, emblems, and the front turn signal housing insert thing that I made up. Plus there really is not a line on the body back there that could "feed" into a line across the back. I think of the "dashs" as serving the same function as the side mouldings on a Titan, they break up a big open area, looks better IMO. -

Gollum: The top doesn't look chopped at all. Is that supposed to be stock?The only thing I did to the car other than make it wider by four inches on each side, is that I used an OE stance picture of a 280zx, and lowered the car ~3". Nothing was changed on top. The big GT style wing might give the impression that I chopped the car but I did not. In all honestly I think the wider stance alone makes the car look like it sits lower.
Wow everyone seems to be sold on the back end. What do you think of the chrome inserts to break up the rear and bring in some of that OE style from the early S130 rear bumper.
Now use your imagination for second. The inside of diffuser part in black carbon fiber while everything else is painted. Would that not look sick?
Dorifto: Alright, Drftn, that's it. I'm driving my 2+2 out to a friends' shop in VA, and we're making a fiberglass widebody from those sketches. I want one now!Seriously, I love your work, man. I would absolutely love to have my 2+2 look like that. I should be coming into some money soon, so it might be sooner than not.
Well good luck with that. I probably will not want one though, the design is still not settled with me. Plus my intentions are to go carbon fiber not fiberglass.

Well after much waiting, thanks guys, I have finally finished these two manual photochops that are to scale. Please comment it helps me as a designer more than you realize. IMO I think these drawing sell my taillight design, just gorgeous.
Ah crap! I just realized when I flipped the image (on paper) the muffler was exiting on the wrong side. Here is how the pics are supposed to be (sorry can't fix the license plate, you get the idea though)
Ah crap! I just realized the wing is crooked in the second pic, oh well better luck next time.

All right after much waiting, thanks for being patient guys. Here are some more manual scaled photochops (ie. I drew on Z cars then took the modified lines and transferred them over to another paper alone). Enjoy, please comment, I think these drawings pretty much sell the taillights I designed, I think they're gorgeous.
next up will be a front end shot, and maybe a side profile. Anyone got pics I can borrow and "chop" to make these sketches. Be patient though (I am very meticulous about my drawings.

hmmm, I'll keep that in mind, might just work. You know what would work great is one of those snap together models, but then I still need some kind of material to add to the model. Any ideas?

truely amazing, the first picture is so awesome looking that it makes me want so much more! if you get really into i would suggest that perhaps you build or get someone else to build a small scale model and test some aerodynamics, it just looks so beautiful and fast though its kinda scary beauty
I have contemplated that idea. I just need to find the right material to use to sculpt. Any ideas? I though about buying a die cast scale model and then getting some fine grain foam. Then sand down/ sculpt to foam to scale and the nadd some paint and voila! I am not sure this is a good idea since the only die cast ZX's I can find are like $50.00+ and are collectors items (not intended for bodily manipulation and customization)
I am working on a rear scale "shot" once it is done I post it, I know you guys will like it, it really does enhance the ZX's good qualities.
